...and a happy New Year! 12/30/2010

We are looking at beach excursions at both ports.. DD really loved doing the Beach trip when were went to Cozumel.

Oriental Beach at St Maarten and we are stumped on St Thomas. One thing I would like to do is go up to the top of the mountain for the beautiful view, but not sure if that is part of the excursion or not.

Not sure if we will be booking through DCL or doing it on our own. I thought I was getting the extra security of booking through DCL on our October cruise, but not sure if we did. I will have to think about it.

Terri - Would love to hear about how you like your Oct Cruise when you get back.

I would love for us to do some excursions, but I really have to wait and see how much strength my DM has by the end of September. Right now being in the middle of chemo is not a good indicator. We may have to wait till November even to decide. We are unsure if we will have to take her walker or even her wheelchair with us. I do not want her to give out at an inopertune time. So needless to say, I have not even done one smidge of research yet.

I've been looking at several different things. My DS really wants to do the semi-submarine thing (it looks like it is offered at both St. Thomas and St. Maarten), but the reviews I've seen of it are just sort of so/so. I would really like to go to either Maegens Bay or Trunk Bay, can't decide which. My DD wants to take the cable cars to the top of Paradise Point for the view. I'll have to go over to Cruise Critic and look at the reviews. I haven't had much luck searching on here.

FYI....just got a quote for this cruise date, gty cat 12, we have 4 people so that is an automatic upgrade.....price $3600 :woohoo: Can it be true?????

We are booked for Dream in May for $2700. I think I am be switching dates...

Any thoughts?????

Also, does Disney have a big NYE celebration?

I think it would be great for you to join us!!!

This will be our first NYE cruise, but I am assuming that Disney will do this as big as it does everything else.

Such a cool video, I had seen other videos of them doing new years eve in the atrium with out the fireworks. This seems so much better! I wonder what they are going to do for pirate night if they do the fireworks new years eve?

Wow.. that is the first I heard that DCL did fireworks on NYE. Others have mentioned they have a big celebration in the atrium with a balloon drop and characters at Midnight. I am up for anything !

I did a quick search and here are a couple of postings on past NYE celebrations, several people have mentioned it is the best NYE celebration they have been too.

ByeJou - Come join us for the celebration!

Was anyone notified? I was seeing on the main board that ST Thomas will now be a tender port.

I saw that thread, I haven't been notified on either of my cruises so maybe they won't start tendering until after our cruise. :confused3

I have not received notification either..I really hope that we don't tender..St. Thomas is our favorite and we have so little time in that port that I hate to waste it waiting for a tender.

Why is it your favorite? What cool things have you done there? Anything I should not miss? Can you tell it will be my first time there in Oct.? :lmao:

:rotfl:
We love the water there..breathtaking..I would suggest coral world your first time..it gives you a nice tour of the island and a neat place to visit.

Someone mentioned they got notification for their Dec 4th cruise, but then I checked their cruise meet and nothing has been mentioned. :confused3

I also checked cruise critic and nothing was mentioned there either.

I have only been on a tender when going to Grand Cayman. ugh... I don't do well on small boats. especially when they are packed with sweaty people and the water is choppy.

Just booked Country Inn and Suites for 2 nights before the cruise! Didn't use priceline, just can't jump into that, but we did book through AAA and at least if I find a lower price I can cancel that one and go with something else.

Maybe we can do a mini meet the night before the cruise for those staying at the port!

Right now I have they MCO Hyatt booked for the pre-cruise night. I've been wavering back and forth between staying at the port or just staying at the airport. Right now, the airport feels less stressful as I could just use DCL transfers even though it might cost a bit more. However, since we're supposed to get to FL at about 12:30 pm, part of me thinks it would be nice to have dinner near the water that evening too. I just don't know if I want to mess with a rental car and getting it returned. May change my mind before Dec though, who knows!

Nikki - If we were coming in just the day before, I would just stay at the MCO Hyatt as well and just take DCL transfer, because they will get you to the port as early as you want to get there. I would not be dealing with a rental car or car service if it was just one night, but since we are coming in 2 days ahead, we didn't want to spend it at the airport.

Ok, so a DIS friend (tinkerbelle77) happened to mention this cruise to us, on our recent visit to Chicago. And, we just couldn't pass up the cat12 deal to book this cruise. So, for now, I have a reservation on hold (which I'm sure I'll be putting down my deposit in the next couple of days).

This will be our 8th DCL cruise. Cruising will be myself (41), DH Chris (43), DD Emily (9), and DD Madison (6).

Can't wait to get involved in planning this cruise.

Welcome Amy!! So good to see more people joining :cool1: My DD will be turning 9 on the cruise and is looking forward to meeting new friends.. :cheer2:

Tina - You are so good for recruiting more guests!! :worship: I have been trying.

So far I think we have pulled at least 10-12 families into Cat 12 on this cruise, so at least some of us might be sailing in lower categories when December rolls around. ;)

We met Tina & Tim years ago on a DVC member cruise, and it was great to be able to see them while we were on vacation this summer in Chicago. Anyway, my DD will have just turned 9 in October, so I'm sure that she'll be happy to meet someone her age!!
