...and a happy New Year! 12/30/2010

Yes we were on the Magic. We had so much fun, we had to do it again. As some others, we usually do not make it to midnight, but the evening was so wonderful, we were up past 1:00. The snorkeling in Cozumel was amazing. Really looking forward to snorkeling in St. Thomas, and a hike in St. Maarteen.

Tina, We will wave to you at the Brunch. Seems like at least 3 of us already have reservations for the first.

Another question... We wanted to do the Skyride at St Thomas and noticed that DCL no longer has reservations? Another post I saw they stop that reservation. Wondering if anyone is doing on their on their own.

Hello All- I haven't been on the disboards in awhile, as school started and since I am a teacher, that has been keeping me very busy! However, I'm home for a few days recovering from surgery, so I'm thinking I better use this time to make some plans for the cruise! I haven't even decided on excursions yet, but I was considering the SkyRide in St. Thomas as well. Surpised to hear it might be sold out? Seems odd. But, did I read someplace that the Wonder is tendering in St. Thomas for our cruise? I thought maybe I remembered reading that because of that, the ship would not be near the SkyRide location and so maybe they are not offering that excursion through Disney? Does anyone know about that?

Hi Patti - Are you planning to do the ECO Hike in St Maarteen? That is what we are planning right now. Could always change.

We never made it up to Midnight on the last DCL cruise and missed most of the +18 entertainment, but don't want to miss this party on NYE.

Nikki - Not sure what is going on with with the SkyRide in St Thomas. Someone mentioned they stopped offering this through DCL, but everyone says it is so easy to walk over to do this on your own. This is something we wanted to do as well.

As for docking or Tendering, the only thing they have on the website is for the Magic. I guess I was assuming that since they didn't mention the Wonder that we would not be tendering.

On 11/10/2010, 11/24/2010, 12/8/2010, 1/19/2011, 2/16/2011, 3/16/2011 the Disney Magic will be anchored in the bay and Guests will use tender boats to go ashore to the downtown area. During those calls, Guests are responsible to make their own way to this venue in the other side of the bay.

I noticed again there is Cat 12 rooms available, so invite your friends!

What a day - happy to be home, and dream about my vacation.

We are doing the Mtn Top Downhill Rainforest Trek in St. Maarten, and the Doubloon Turtle Cove Sail & Snorkel in St. Thomas, and of course, lots of shopping. Having brunch at Palo's on Jan. 4, and the boys will water ski at CC. I have booked a few spa treatments, too.

Patti - We are also doing the Mtn Top Downhill Trek in St Maarten. DH wanted to do the ECO hike in St Thomas, but since it is DD birthday, she gets to pick.

Some of the snorkel trips sound neat, but I don't due well on small boats at all.

Laura, My DH does not do well on small boats, but did okay in Key West and Cozumel last year. Cozumel was unbelievable. From the moment we slipped into the water, there were fish everywhere.

I reviewed some of your posts. A 9 mile walk in the canyon. Sounds wonderful. I am training for the 2012 Half Marathon (20K) for WDW - just getting to my first 5 K running distance. I will need the year to train. Hope to cruise before or after the run.

Saw that you enjoy margarita's - we should meet for a before dinner drink one day.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, as the count down gets closer to the cruise. This is the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, so lots of cleaning, cooking and then relaxin'.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just returned from my early morning walk into the canyon. Luckly the weather is much cooler this morning, only 60 deg F. Not the general 75-80 deg we have at 5:30am. But we did not do 9 miles, only 6 miles this morning.

lets do meet for Margarita's. I tired the Key Lime one on last year's western.

*80 days until the cruise*

Only 4 more evenings until the new cruisers can book their palo's and excursions. So at Midnight on the 15th (or late evening 14th for those not on eastern time), start your booking.

Ask away if you have any questions.

Laura,
I am counting the hours until I can reserve! I'm also checking daily (obsessively) to see if I have a cabin assignment. I know it is a little early for that but I will still check every day! Working on FE gifts, sewing Disney outfits for my daughter, reading the boards and being OCD about a cabin number gives every day a little Disney magic!

Heee :lmao: You are just like me. I have been checking too. But I assume as soon as we hit the PIF date, they might offer some Florida specials and then we will find out our cabin assignments.

Wow, I do need to get off my duff and figure out what I want to do for FE gifts. I am certainly not as crafty as some of the DISer's are on this board. Expect something local from me.

Congradulations on graduating from Nursing School. My wife and I are both nurses, we met in nursing school and graduated long before you were born. I am now a CRNA. Nursing is a great career!

wow, I can't believe this cruise is only 3 months away, i booked it almost a year ago! Haven't checked this thread since then, so i'm glad to see there are other people going. Have I missed anything interesting?

Just to reintroduce myself--
My name is Kari, just graduated form nursing school in August and this is a grad/bday trip (my bday is on 12/30)
my mom
my cousin Ariel (she'll fit in well on the Wonder) who graduated from high school in May and her bday is in Jan.
Her mom, my aunt

Having been on a few DCL cruises and staying on St. Thomas several times, most cruise ships dock in St. Thomas. They have space for 4-5 ships at the new pier they built. Some smaller ships do anchor at the old Navy base on the other side of Charlotte Amilia and have to tender. The Sky Ride is a short walk from the pier. When we have cruised to St. Thomas in the past we always did the Sky Ride on our own a bought tickets at the Sky Ride, it was cheaper. Alex

Okay, I have read a lot about the FE gifts. Sounds interesting, but my concern is: what if I do not get off my duff and make a FE, or worst to make gifts. With work and fitness 6 days a week, the crafts have gone to the side. I may join Laura and bring something local. Anyone for maple syrup? Seems to be the thing to give from our Mennonite community. So should I join? I need some encouragement. We are driving, so I do not have the excuse of not being able to fit in the luggage.

Should you join????? My vote is yes. I really enjoyed the FE exchange on my last cruise. My Mom really looked forward to helping me take the gifts to the different rooms, plus it was a blast to see the different ones we received. Plus, I would love to put a *** FE by your name!!

What type of things did you get in the past that you went - this is really neat idea? Sounds like it is up to the individual, and whatever comes from your heart. Is there something for everyone in the room, or one item per room? Are most the items home made? I have seen some pretty nice home made gifts. I am concerned that my creativity will not come close to the others. Okay, I'll take the leap, the only way I can learn is to jump right in.

That was how I looked at it last year, taking the leap. I received candy (various types), lip balm, a cd of Disney music, a keychain, magnets, a bottle of water with our cruise info as a sleeve around it. Some were homemade, some not.
Some gave for each person, some gave just for the room, it is totally up to you. I look at it like a Christmas present, it is the thought that counts. My gifts last year were based on the room occupants. The kids got a coloring tablet of Disney characters and I gave the adults highlighters and a small writing tablet that had one of our Texas logos on it, plus a few other little things.
My DD and I are already trying to figure out what we will do this cruise. All I have to do is get through tomorrow (I am an accountant and extensions are due in by tomorrow. . . and I still have clients delivering their info!!! :scared1:) and then we will start working hot and heavy on our new magnets for the door and our gifts. :woohoo:

FE gifts are just that, gifts. Anything from candy to magnets to trickets from your state/country, etc.. One cruise our FE gift was an cruise survival pack with rubber bands, band aids, chip clips, paper, pens, and other things we thought might be helpful. Another time it was magnets, another magetic dry eraser boards. Candy is always a treat. People who have creative talent do make great gifts, those of us with less talent try to be imaginative. Everyone appreciates all FE gifts. Don't worry, be happy, you are on a Disney New Years Eve cruise!:banana::banana::banana:

Thanks Kathy and Alex for the words of encouragement. You have both help bring down the anxiety of finding the time to make something home made. Now to sew my fish extender.
