Analyze these flights, please.....

I have been watching Airtran's flights. I think I would like to grab this one (or close to it) when Mid-October flights come out.

If you look at the gates in ATL they stay the same for the connecting flight with only 40 minutes between connections. The flight numbers change.

If I am connecting to the next flight, will I have to deplane and then reboard or will I just stay on the plane or would they actually have another flight leaving in between there? If it were the same flight number, I know I would just stay on the plane while people getting off in ATL would leave and folks going to MCO would board. Did I confuse anyone?

I am just curious how this would work. Thanks.

Usually if it's a different flight number, then you would switch planes but the gate is the same for your arrival and departure so that would make me think that you don't switch planes. I would call the airline.

I think they will ask you to get off and then get back on since this is not the same flight and there could also be a crew change.

I'm with CarolA. Since the flight number changes, you'll have to deplane and reboard. There may or may not be a crew change, and I'm sure it's the same plane, but more than likely there will be a seat assignment change. Even if you get the same seats for both legs, they may have you get off anyway since technically flight 853 has ended. I would call AirTran anyway just to make sure.

At least AirTran would have no excuse if they lose your luggage.

I was kind of thinking that...... there is also no excuse that the first flight was delayed and we missed our connecting flight!

I've done an airtran flight like that before, though we started in Atlanta stopped in NC, before heading onto BWI. We did not have to deplane even though the flight number changed. We just sat on the plane with the other 8 people who were continuing on as they got the plane ready for boarding for the others who were getting on. It wasn't a problem at all. It maybe different in Atlanta, but there is a chance you will just get to stay on. When we stopped at BWI the plane was continuing on to Boston and those who were going to Boston did not have to deplane either.

editted to add: Our flight number did change as well it wasn't listed as one flight number for the whole route even though it was the same plane.
