Anaheim to San Diego

In December while we are celebrating the holiday's at Diseyland we are spending 2 days in San Diego. We are going down on Friday AM and returning Saturday PM. Would you recommend taking 5 down or is 15 a better option?

We are actually stoping in Escondido, on the way, if this makes a difference.

Escondido, 15. . . more south and you could have gone 5 and taken the 56 or 52 across, but escondido, i'd do 15. .

If you're leaving after 9am it doesn't make a difference...and I recommend waiting until that time before you leave.

Oh yeah it will deffiently be after 9am.

Take the 5. Getting to the 15 will be quite a headache since you have to take the 91. There will be some congestion through Irvine and Mission Viejo but it will clear up pretty quickly.
Use the carpool lane.

Without a doubt, take the 5 down to the 78, and then the 78 across to the 15 (Escondido is basically at the intersection of the 15 and 78). If you left Disney and went to the 15, you'd have to not only take the 91, but also deal with all of traffic going inland from the OC.

It also takes a good 10+ minutes to get to the 91 from Disney, and the 5 is right at Disney, so you're saving time there as well.

Thanks for all the opinions/advice so far.

My aunt who lives in Escondido recommended the 15, but I had planed the 5. So I figured I would get opinions/advice.

I used to work as a courier, and would make trips down to San Diego and Escondido all the time from Santa Ana (5-10 minutes away from Anaheim), I always used the 5.

Reason being, it was more enjoyable to drive on the 5 and see the ocean than to drive on the 15 and see nothing at all. Not to mention, if you're travelling early on the 5, there's pretty much no traffic unless there's an accident.
