Did I hear correctly??? The Anaheim GardenWalk is foreclosing all their shops? I just heard news. I wonder if this means all the restaurants like Cheesecake factory, and Bubba Gumps will close too. Its always been really quiet at the Garden Walk, so I shouldnt be too surprised, but this is such a shame.

Where did you hear that? And what does that mean exactly? Did the shops owe money that they couldn't pay? Would they put in new shop? Those restuarants are the anchors so I wouldn't think they would leave. As for the rest of the stores, they are 99% clothing or apparel related and don't really make for interesting family browsing.

It was on Micechat's lastest "Andy Castro's Dateline Disneyland" update this morning. Then I googled it and several articles have come up on it. They are saying that the outdoor retail mall defaulted on a $210 million loan and failed to catch up on payments. Several other things also led up to this such as lawsuits with tenants, repeated attempts to modify the loan and a severely struggling economy. It sounds like there is gonna be a foreclosure auction on March 9th in front of the Placentia Civic Center.

In all the time that Garden Walk has been up, I haven't been to any of the shops, only the restaurants.

I did the same thing... I have been down there numerous times, but every time I went for dinner, I would go put my name down and while waiting I would window shop but rarely go into the stores.

us too Courtney, we never shopped there, we just ate there.

Us too. We've gone for the restaurants - not the shopping. We did also go see a movie there one time. And the one time I had plans to buy something in one of the stores, that particular store was closed for the day! They were probably closed because no one shops there but it was frustrating.

Well, this is a bummer. I have a strong feeling that this just might impact my plans to ride the free Gardenwalk shuttle bus back to the Gardenwalk each evening so that I could shorten my walk back to the Residence Inn Maingate. :confused3 We have visited the Gardenwalk a few times, never shopped, but we did plan to eat there again on our upcoming trip. I'll have to keep my eye on the events as they unfold......

Same here.
I love McCormick & Schmidt (dined there twice) and Cheesecake Factory is always good. And Roy's. So many of the restaurants are a refreshing change from DLR/DTD. I hope they come out ok.:)

I liked the restuarants but the shops were stupid. We tried to shop there but found nothing of interest. There was a candy store we wandered in to and I can see how that would appeal to families, but it was hiddend upstairs. And I guess I'm spoiled because we have a candy store here called Powells and it is 10 times better than that one. It just makes me mad they filled up a perfectly good center with boring stores. :confused3

Wasn't this property acquired by the "eminent domain" law? Didn't the City of Anaheim take this away from Disney? Wasn't this property purchase by Disney legally for future park expansion? And now it is going up for auction?? Do I smell a mouse here, I mean a rat? So sad. I have never agreed with the eminent domain law. The law should have boundaries. Like for roads, or necessary public safety. But this act was purely for gain. Okay, I will get off my soap box now.:headache::tink:

The mall itself is called The Shops at Anaheim GardenWalk. It's not all the individual shops that are being foreclosed upon. So my interpretation of the article in the link Bumbershoot posted is that it will pretty much be business as usual at Garden Walk while the auction is happening and beyond, minus the couple of stores that have vacated due to their own financial difficulty. Otherwise, all the other shops/stores are still there, as well as the restaurants.

By the way, didn't GW add in a Lush store fairly recently? See, for those of us who love us some fresh, fragrant anf fruity bath and body products, that is big news, because Lush doesn't have that many stores around town. I was even planning to try to make a trip to Lush on one of my next DLR trips (just like the Basin store is a big hit for me at Downtown Disney!). LOOOOOVE me some bath bombs and shower gel! I think Lush will still be there when I get there later this year. I think most of the stores will still be there.
