Thank you to everyone who chimed in on my "Tell Me Where To Stay" thread.

I have narrowed it down to Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites and Park Vue Inn.

Somewhere close to the parks, clean and quiet is all that we are looking for. It looks like you can't get much closer to the entrance than these two places, with Park Vue maybe being a couple steps closer than Desert Inn.

Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites Pros
  • slightly cheaper (we're talking roughly $50) than Park Vue Inn, after taking room and parking into consideration
  • free continental breakfast (Park Vue Inn does not have this)
Park Vue Inn Pros
  • bunk beds, in addition to the two queens, so my kids can each have their own bed. Desert Inn would be two queens and a sofa bed.
  • it seems to have marginally better reviews than Desert Inn, from what I have seen
So, basically I think it comes down to do we want free continental breakfast or a separate bed for each kid (13, 11 & 8).

What is your vote???

Desert Inn is no nonsense basic hotel rooms. We stayed there the last 2 years and will go back.

Breakfast is pretty basic as well, but I love being able to grab just a little something on our way out. Boiled eggs, cheese cubes, packaged danishes, toast, cereal. Coffee, milk and juice also available.

They also have lockers big enough to hold our luggage on check in and check out days.

We are park open to park close people and love having something so reasonably priced so near the park entrance.

I don't know the configuration of the bunk bed room at Park Vue. Is that all one room, or is there a separate room with the bunk beds?

I'm asking because a possible advantage to Desert Inn is that it has 2 separate rooms (with a door than can close off the second room from the first). The 2 queens would be in the back and the front is a little living area with sofa bed that makes into a bed.

It's nice if anyone wants to stay up and watch TV or have some privacy. Downside is the living room with sofa bed area is right inside the entry door, so if it's the kids' room (which it was for us) and you're up earlier and want to go get something from the breakfast room, you have to sneak through it if you don't want to wake anyone. That may or may not be an issue for you.

Both are very close, but Park Vue does have the advantage of being RIGHT at the crosswalk and is (or was, last time I was there, which was a while ago) a slightly nicer property. But it is nice with the number in your party to be able to grab some fruit, juice, coffe, cereal etc as you're heading to the parks from Desert Inn.

I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

Park vue.

I know a lot of people really love Desert Inn, but we did not have a good experience there. When we stayed our room was not that clean and the mattress was terrible (my husband and I sank into the middle of the bed). We said we would try it again when they renovate the rooms because we do really like the different room size configurations they have and how close it is to the parks. Not getting a good nights rest before a rope drop to close day at Disneyland is no longer ideal for us.

You can always get a grocery delivery to Park Vue for breakfast items if that is where you decide to stay. Or if you have a car, we usually run down to the target to pick up snacks and breakfast.

Short answer: Park Vue for closer proximity, nicer property, and real beds for the kids.

Long answer: We stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites last summer and it was…. fine. The room was clean, quiet, but dated and the mattress was not that comfy. The breakfast was truly nothing to write home about - hard boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, prepackaged pastries you can get at a gas station, drip coffee. Before we decided to stay onsite for our upcoming trip, we were considering the Park Vue Inn or Tropicana. Desert Inn was not on the list.

For your ultimate comparisons: breakfast vs separate beds
I’d go for Park Vue

Only because I love to eat IN Disneyland, DCA and the resorts/downtown disney
So an included breakfast doesn’t appeal to me

The extra beds will be a hit with the kids because kids be kids

I'm still a fan of Park Vue and especially if separate beds are available, I have 3 boys and they really aren't fans of sharing a bed. Also, I don't like continental breakfasts :D Grocery delivery for sure, or, just grab something delicious at the parks :)

I would not call the breakfast at Desert inn a selling point (and we always stay there). I would compare the square footage of the actual rooms and make my decision based on that. Yes, every kid having their own bed is nice but 5 people in one room can get very cramped, very fast. If it is not a significant difference I would do Park Vue.

Park Vue! You mentioned wanting a quiet place. DI&S forms a horse shoe with several other hotels, and all the noise bounces off the buildings and it’s really loud. Additionally, if it’s a weekend, you get the noise from the rooftop bar at Grand Legacy. The breakfast is very minimal, you could do much better with a grocery order. The beds, in my opinion are terrible, and I don’t like the parking situation either. I’ve just had better experiences at Parkvue, and I’ve stayed at both several times. The only time I pick DI&S is when I really need a large suite.
