An Unforgettable Finish- Oct 2011 TR **Happily Ever After (Completed 5/3)

Ugh, what a terrible way to spend the 40th. :sad2: I guess they were really not prepared for that amount of crowds that weekend, because it seems like nothing was organized very well that day. And the fireworks were a little pathetic, weren't they? I kept thinking there would be something else too!

Oh my goodness, what a horrible experience for you guys. I couldn't imagine how crazy it was because it was the 40th. I think a lot of the problems too are caused by people and their impatience as well. Like the kid standing in the middle and stuff. If everyone moved in an orderly manner, it probably wouldn't have been so bad.

Wowza! I'm so sorry you guys had such a rotten night. And no special fireworks either? Ugh. But as a PP said, at least you can say you were there!

Kate, I'm so sorry you had such a hard time the night of the 40th with the crowds, the rude guests, etc. I certainly would have had a lot of sympathy for those CM's.

I was upset we missed the 40th by two days, but I told Mark that if we had been there, we probably would have gone to another park because I would not have wanted to deal with the crowds.

I hope the next day is a better day for all.

I would have hated to try and be a CM working during the 40th. It couldn't have been any fun to try to do crowd control that day.

It would have been a really good idea to go to another park that day. Somehow I didn't think it would be that bad. We've been to Disney during busy times before, but it's never been anything like that.

We all agreed that the next day, we'd do anything but go to the Magic Kingdom.

What a nightmare! Just reading about the crowds made me feel claustrophobic & anxious. :sad2: Glad y'all made it out of there safely. :thumbsup2

I'm surprised the fireworks for the 40th weren't different. I would've thought they'd do a completely different show to make it special.

Claustrophobic and anxious was just how I felt that night, so I guess I described it well. :rotfl: I was really glad when we made it out of there.

I really thought there would be something more to it than that. I don't know...it just didn't seem very special and definitely not worth fighting the crowds for.

Well, it's kind of cool that you can say you were there on the 40th... but wow. That would be miserable to be stuck in a crowd like that. I'm glad you guys made it out alive! :rotfl2:

You know, the sad thing is, that after all that, we didn't even get a 40th anniversary button. :rotfl: I guess it was nice to be there and not have to wonder what it was like, but if I could do it again, I wouldn't.

We were having the best time until we stepped outside of Liberty Tree Tavern. It did seem like everything was pretty disorganized that day. Maybe Disney didn't realize how popular all of the 40th stuff would be. I really did expect something better with the fireworks. Maybe if they hadn't have said there'd be something special than the extra fireworks would have been cool. As it was, I just thought it would be something better.

It wasn't a fun night, that's for sure. I knew it would be crowded on the 40th, but I hadn't expected anything as bad as that. I'm sure the impatient people didn't help matters any, but there were just so many people all trying to fit through that walkway that it was going to be bad no matter what. If only we hadn't split up, we would have just ridden rides until it all cleared up.

There were extra fireworks, but I just expected something more. If I hadn't seen Wishes so many times before, it would be easy to not even notice that there was anything different. I guess it was an interesting experience. I'm just glad we didn't try to wait for hours and hours for a limited edition cupcake. :rotfl:

That owl story sounds crazy!!!!

OH GOODNESS. This is the second time I've read about the 40th and it just sounds like a complete nightmare! And I thought Main Street crowds were bad at the Christmas party last year... riiiight... so note to self: RETHINK 50th!!!!!

Oh my goodness! What a nightmare!!

We were there on the 40th Anniversary too. We got there before opening and made it into the Rope Drop holding area (just past the turnstiles) for the opening show. But that that point I was already worried about the crowds that day.

We didn't stay on Main St, just walked right up past it to Fantasyland where there was NO ONE! We had the best time all morning until the special Castle Show finished. Then the crowds decended on the rest of the park. We finished up what we were doing and headed out for a midday break.

We thought about going back for the fireworks that night, but the crowds earlier in the day scared us away! I was so bummed about missing the 'special' fireworks until I heard that it wasn't much of anything.

I am so sorry that you guys had such a rough experience that night! That stinks! I am hoping that the week can only get better.

Yikes!! You did have a wild evening!! :scared1: After reading all the reports about, I feel silly for being sad over not being able to go to this. I wouldn't have survived! It's sad that there wasn't anything extra special to the fireworks.

Going to Epcot for the 50th sounds like a GREAT idea instead! :thumbsup2

The owl was certainly memorable, that's for sure. :rotfl:

It was horrible! It was easily worse than any other crowds I'd been in at Disney World. Even NYE was a breeze, comparatively. Next time, Epcot will be just fine!

I bet rope drop was pretty crazy that day, too. I can't believe how many people were interested in the 40th anniversary stuff. I would have guessed that it would mostly be Disney people like us who really wanted to be there. Or maybe there's just a lot more of us out there than I'd think.

Spending the morning in Fantasyland while everyone else was on Main Street sounds like a lot of fun. I bet it would have been the same during the fireworks and the rides everywhere were mostly empty.

I wish I had known about the morning crowds, since maybe then we wouldn't have tried to go that night. Or maybe we would have...I didn't want to miss out on the special fireworks, but they really weren't that special.

That was definitely one of the low points of the trip.

I thought I would have been sad to not get to go, too, but looking back on it, we should have stayed home. Of course, I bet it would have been fine if we hadn't have chosen that side of Main Street to watch from or if we hadn't have split up or if the stroller hadn't been stuck in the parade watchers.

Well, at least, we learned something...anniversaries that have been vaguely talked up on the Internet should be avoided in the future.:rotfl:

Sounds like they didnt put much effort into the 40th anniversary, which is sad, i am sorry to hear it was so crowded!!

Ugh, that sounds like my worst nightmare. I love Magic Kingdom in general, but I hate nighttime Magic Kingdom. That area over by Crystal Palace seems to need to be re-evaluated by WDW. I've had to deal with twice, and it killed all my patience. The sidewalks aren't wide enough for 2 lines of people (those entering and those leaving). And if one person stops to watch the show, everyone is held up.
I'll admit, the last time I got caught up in it, I snapped at a CM. That was the first time that I verbally argued with one, and I felt bad about it afterwards, but there is absolutely no control in that space.

I couldn't imagine how stressful it must've been to be seperated from your family. Nobody needs to be upset on vacation, especially not in MK.

Although, I did laugh at the 61 missed calls. In any other circumstance, someone pulling out their phone and seeing that number of missed calls would be amusing, but in that particular instance, I can understand the reason. I probably would've tried that many times, as well.

I hope your next Disney day was much better and far less stressful!

I'm sorry you had such a stressful night! I hate being stuck in crowds with the stroller, I can only imagine it is worse with a double.

I'm glad that everyone was OK, and that you all made it out together in one piece.

I was thinking about taking Everett solo to Epcot's 30th next year, but maybe I need to rethink that plan. If it is anything like the MK 40th, I'm going to need back-up! :sad2:

I think it would have been better to have done nothing at all for the 40th instead of just enough to get everyone interested, but not enough to make it worth the crowds. They'll probably do it just right for the 50th, when we'll be at Epcot. :rotfl:

MK at nighttime can be crazy, especially after Wishes when everyone's trying to leave at once. We usually try to avoid Main Street that time of night, and have some fun while Main Street is full. I don't know how they could avoid that bottleneck there at Crystal Palace. The night of the 40th, there were way more of us trying to leave than trying to arrive, and we all thought they shouldn't let any one try to walk toward Adventureland, but the CMs seemed to think differently. :rotfl: It's hard in a situation like that to not argue with them.

We really shouldn't have split up that night. I still can't believe we didn't foresee how that plan could go badly. I guess we learned something for next time.

If they just would have answered the phone, then the whole thing would have been fine! They could have gone to Adventureland and we could have met them there and it would have been a great night. 61 phone calls...if we'd only gotten one answer it would have been well worth it!

Our next day turned out much better.

It would have been horrible with the double stroller! My parents really got the worse end of the deal that night- carrying Carter is not easy and I'm sure carrying the double stroller over your head isn't fun either.

I think that night was the happiest that I'd ever been to be leaving the Magic Kingdom. :rotfl:

I didn't realize Epcot's 30th is coming up next year...maybe it won't be as bad. Epcot seems to handle crowds better than MK and maybe they won't announce anything special beforehand. I'd better be careful, or I'll talk myself into going, too.

Sorry you had a crazy night at MK! Kind of glad we didn't attempt it now. Pizza and the movie by the pool at CBR seems like it was a good idea now. :)

That's so cute that Carter remembered pirates foot and the escalator!

You'll have to see the Indy show! I think Carter might enjoy it but Landon may not and could be antsy/bored. We've never seen Idol either.. no real desire there :rotfl: but I also always wondered if they really want the pass. I liked the new star tours better. Interested to see what you think! :surfweb:

Hope your day a DHS turns out great!

Wow, the 40th at MK sounds horrible! I can't believe they weren't a little better prepared for that.

A MGM morning is the best kind of morning. :) I can't wait to hear what you thought of the new Star Tours. I'm nervous I will hate it since I really liked the original. :(

"Carter, what do you want to do today?"

"Pirate toes, up excalator."

I was surprised. I shouldn't have been, since I had asked him, but I hadn't really expected a reasonable answer. It seemed really clever of him to remember that the up escalator came after Pirates of the Caribbean.

"Well, we'll make sure to go on pirate toes soon, but probably not today."

Carter took a big bite of his peanut butter spoon and wondered why I'd bothered to ask his opinion if I wasn't going to do what he suggested.

Hahahaha! I love that! He's so smart. :)

Ahhh... Tower of Terror and RNRC are two of my favorites in all of Disney. SO MUCH FUN. Glad yall got to get FPs for both!

Yeah, I wonder about the American Idol Experience myself. It seems like they added it a little late in the game. I'm a BIG Idol fan, not gonna lie, and they added this attraction during season 8 of the show, and I mean, it's a popular show but it won't last forever. Then what will they do? I went to see the show once and it was fun, but it was something I probably wouldn't do again. Plus, the guy that won our show was too old to be on Idol anyway. BUT I have to say that I love that the 2 pictures you took are of Kris Allen and Scotty McCreery. Because I kinda love both of them, a lot. (Especially Kris Allen.)

Can't wait to see what you thought of the new Star Tours! I never rode the old one because I'd never seen any of the movies, but in the past few months I've been able to watch all six so I'm VERY excited to ride the new one!!!

How clever of Carter to remember that? Too cute.

I love TOT...my favorite ride in all of Disney (I'll skip RnR though).
