An Open Letter to VMK Staff

The most fun I had was when we were all trying to get into the Pin Trading Events one year ago today.

It wasn't about greed or about hoarding: it was about getting that LAST pin to finish off your set. We'd all sign out and sign back in the minute before a new round was supposed to start and the DIS forums were overloaded with "What's she wearing now?"

We laughed, we cried, we dc-ed.

Though this was Inferno for us back then, it still is one of my most favorite VMK memories.

I have to agree with Grumpy. Well written. I think the magic of disney would be to turn on your computer and each have dream ears in their inventory. Now that is magic. Then it would not matter if it was tradeable. And then they could give out random items. I used to play VMK all the time. Even took my lap top to work to not miss it.

I hate this rare stuff. I hate that you can only get a prize if you go to Disneyland and can't finish an item. Like creating an online game Nemo and miss out the most important piece. Come on.

I think that this not trading stuff is stupid too. Like who cares about trading pirate treasure chest from the game. They made Sparrow tradeable but kept the items you get too many of not what thinking is that??????????????

I sure would run VMK better than that. Having no pins in Host games lame.

I am not even trying to get dreams items. If I never saw staff walking in VMK in two years how would I find them now?

For me, playing VMK has always been about having fun with my friends - it's never been about trading or collecting or host games, etc.. That hasn't changed since I began playing. My friends are still as AWESOME as ever, and that is what makes VMK so very magical to me.

As long as I have my friends, VMK will always be a truly magical place. :wizard:

I think you've got the right idea. But then again, how close would those "VMK Friends" be if not for the DIS or some other contact outside of the game? The rules are designed to keep the relationships very impersonal for the safety of the children. That's not a bad thing.

VMK just happens to be a place where I see friends that I've made in places outside of the game. I don't think VMK's "magic" comes from any sense of community that it provides. That's just my opinion though.

To made a million dreams come true, just pop a hat in everyone inventories.

I agree that VMK has been unexciting for me this year. I can't really say what specifically is missing, but pretty much since after Christmas there hasn't been much to get interested in... Top it off with some dumbo decisions on VMK's part... welll... I could rant, but I'm not gonna... At least not here/now. Perhaps I'll come up with some formed words and post them...

Though it just occurred to me... Something I haven't seen in a while... Do the VMK staff even still visit these boards? I remember last year I'd see Yavn and others making Dis posts, replying to Q&A threads, etc. But it's been ages since I've seen any such... I wonder if they'd even see your letter No.me? Maybe that explains the poor direction of VMK, their apparent Disconnect with their audience?

Well said. I couldn't agree more. It has been a major downhill slide in the game after about Christmas time I think. It was slowly heading that way before that time though...just wasn't a major jump on down. LOL I've been very disappointed with how they have handled the behavior in the game by bunches of players and then on top of it reward those being bad with Dream "gifts" or rewards of some kind. This is one of the big issues for me with the game is how badly it is being moderated at this point. Summer was a time it should have been majorly moderated and it wasn't. They never stuck the foot down before things got out of hand. Once that happens good luck getting control of it. It have seen nothing getting better with mods...just worse. :sad2: The other thing is how they have handled the whole VMK in park issue. They feed us a load of bull for why they were taking it away. The Nemo middle piece issue was a joke. Yes I can get to Disneyland when I want BUT I don't find it far to all those that can't. It should have been left in the game and that was it. As I have said I don't have time to sit around in a room for staff or stalk them. That is not me. I have other things to do, like take care of my kids and such. I have time usually to log in and get my daily credits. Some days to do a little more then that. I am far from greedy I think when it comes to in game items and all. I am one that things things should be released for others to get no matter if its rare or not. I haven't understood the complaining about such things either. It is a game and vitrual items. Which is why if I get nothing from this whole Dreams thing I don't care. With the way players seem to act to those that have whatever its better not to have it at all it seems. :sad2: I have plans to send an email off the to VMK about it all cause there are obviously little kids that play this game and don't understand all this and then others that do and just are greedy and rude. This month is going to just bring out the worse in all these players and it is not going to be fun for anyone. If they wanted something to be the downfall of the game, well I think they found it. :sad2:

The element of this dreams Team idea that is really saddening me is the inability to do ANYTHING to increase my chances of winning.

To win a prize:
I cannot get better at a host game.
I cannot study up on my trivia.
I cannot improve my pirate/fireworks/ghost or cruise skills.
I cannot run a game room.
I cannot run a quest.

All I can do is sit around and hope that I am in the right place with the right clothes.

It's like waiting for lightening to strike. There is nothing I can do to help myself win. And that's not fun, frustrating, and sad.

In the park, I think it works because you are so busy with visiting the park, you just see a random dream team encounter as very lucky. In vmk however, we all hear about winners, we can instantly jump from one place to another, and we are not over-stimulated by the thrill and excitement of a once in a lifetime trip to an amazing park.

We are simply aware of very cool items and room that are not attainable in any other way other than to sit and wait and hope. sigh. Where is the fun in that? I have not found it, sadly... nor have a found a dream. Oh well...

Thankfully I have friends (even friends who have won) who hang with me and make the time pass with smiles until the 'Dream Team" time period passes and we return to the pirate dock and vmk as we enjoy it.

Hey! There's an idea, how about Dreams prizes in the pirate trunks, and random prizes in the other games. You know, winning a surprise while you are just going about your vmk fun, just like in the parks.

OT: Hi Krazy! Good to see you! :wave2:

I really LOVE this idea!

I know it's not akin to what is going on in the parks, with the way the Dream Team works, but it would be a wonderful way to get everybody back to playing the games, interacting with other VMKer's, and actually having a chance to win something without the "stalking" or "squatting" LOL

Put the prizes in ALL the games please, tho, not just the pirate chests. Us ghost hunters need a little surprise once in a while too :) And I'm sure nobody would want a log-jam in pirates, like it was in the ICE age ;)
