An off the rails joke at Jungle Skipper today

Yeah that seems to take it too far. Parents could easily explain that they weren't actually drinking river water and it was just a joke because they are suppose to be in a restaurant in the jungle. That takes it a little too far into the PC realm.

it's true. if you can't mock the mentally ill then who CAN you mock anymore? I think fat people are still ok. Minority and gay are off the table. Women are ok, and then you can just claim they are either having their "time of the month" or "going through the change" when they get upset.

And what ABOUT all of those poor children who get in trouble for bullying when they are just trying to have a little fun? I mean, what if some 13 year old boy hangs himself because of it? what a joykill, taking all of the fun out of life for those poor boys who were just trying to have a good time. You're right. being PC sucks.

Doesn't the Monsters Inc laugh floor get cheap laughs at others expense? The one time I went I remember a ton of embarrassing and potentially offensive jokes directed toward people in a crowd. It was good fun!

I can't think of any out right. There is "that guy" and then the person buying everyone churros. The person who just has to dance. They make jokes about mispronouncing where people are from or say a kid cuddle on a parent may be a second head. All with in the "monster" universe.

Thank you for speaking up.

I have a very dry and dark sense of humor, but as someone who has mental health issues, and has a close friend who struggles with schizophrenia, that joke was made with poor taste. People need to be more aware of mental illness and it's effects.

Heck, I'll poke fun at myself and my own issues sometimes. Making people laugh about it helps me. But schizophrenia already has so many stigmas attached to it, joking about it doesn't help.

Okay, more context on the tap water thing. It was my birthday. We were having good fun with our Skipper, Nathanel. He took beverage orders. I said I wanted a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay because it was my birthday. He thumped my head and said what part of we don't serve alcohol don't you understand. I said it was my birthday and I wanted a scotch on the rocks. We agreed I would get iced tea, and the birthday fairy would turn it into wine. He said he had a good IPA in his canteen. Then the 20 year olds wanted water. He tried to upswell bottled. They said they wanted normal water. He gave a big sigh, and said, well, I have to go draw it out of the river. And I am NOT responsible for you drinking river water. Who knows what will happen. My Dd said, even if I grow another eye, I want river water.

So that is what I meant. If we had had a child at the table, we would have toned it down, and he knew the difference. Because rhe next table over had small kids, and he was much more circumspect.

This has nothing to do with the presenting issue here. My point was that observed servers doing a good job reading their audiences. And staying in bounds.

Didn't anybody see Bill Murray in "What About Bob"??? That's his line from the movie, which is a very funny movie might I add. There are way more worse issues to write about than a CM reciting a line from a funny movie, one that is rated PG. Damn if they do, damn if they don't is what's going on here. I know people who have mental illness and wouldn't be offended one bit. See the movie, it's a classic!!

I haven't seen it since it came out.

But you are right. It is a movie quote.

No matter what you say, what joke you tell, you will offend someone. Sad but it seems to be true.

I guess I'm too easy going, or too politically UNcorrect, but seriously, nothing offends me. It was a joke. Just move on.

My mom survived (and is absolutely fine at the age of 76) TWO ruptured brain aneurysms in her lifetime. One in 1985 (I was in 5th grade), and another in 2005. Both almost killed her, and the docs call her a freak of nature because she not only fully recovered from the first one, but survived a second! The first time I heard someone say "Don't have an aneurysm", I almost blew snot. I laughed so hard, because after all of those incredibly hard times, it was almost nice to hear something funny and lighthearted about it.

The nerd in me wants to correct they person, though, because you don't have an aneurysm like you do a stroke or heart attack. An aneurysm is a physical anomaly in an artery or vein, and it ruptures or leaks (a form of stroke). So technically, it should be "don't rupture an aneurysm", but it loses something there.... okay, science lesson over.

I could only imagine how some people would react now to the Adventurers Club. Many, MANY laughs were at the expense of others. That was the point! We never got offended there.

And... I loved What About Bob!! Awesome movie!

Can someone explain to me exactly what makes this joke funny?
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I didn't find the joke funny at all. The thing I don't agree with is reporting a server, who isn't even your server, for a poor attempt at a joke that you find offensive.

I would think someone that would get so easily offended about the joke that started this post would also find the joke about throwing husbands off the tram to be making light of spousal abuse.

Husbands should often be thrown off trams, so where's the joke?
