...And I need some advice

Long story short, I finished my Bachelor's degree last semester (Fall 2014). I applied for a lot of PI's and made it pretty far, but did not get in. Now I am at a bit of a crossroads. My dream has always been to work for the Disney company, and the DCP has always been something that has been on the back of my mind. I just never went through with it. I really want to start my career with Disney rather than going off for years and then coming back to it... So my question is, what do I do?

I have been contemplating taking an online class with either a community college or the University of Phoenix. It seems from my research that that would make me eligible to apply to the program for this coming Fall, but I thought maybe someone here would have some more advice. Unfortunately, I only have a day to decide this since my other plans really fell apart late last week. I really appreciate any help I can get!

Taking an online course is perfectly fine or even just a night community college course. I always contemplate taking a photography class or sign language class at the college so I can go back!

don't sink money in to university of phoenix, seriously. try to do something at a community college, maybe a fun and hands on class! if you seriously need an online type of deal, look at southern new hampshire university. i attend full-time as community college just didn't work for me after completing my two college programs. part-time students qualify for the college program, so you would most certainly be eligible!

Very rarely do I post - but I was in this situation too! I finished all of my schooling in 2013 and after jumping around jobs, I realized it wasn't the job...it was that I never got to live out my dream doing the DCP and working long time with the Disney Company. So I signed up for a photography class (one that I needed to help with my career path anyways) and am now eligible to apply!

If you want to talk about it at all, feel free to message me. I went back and forth so long and I feel better knowing that I at least have the opportunity to apply now.

I went through this exact situation. Didn't get in during my undergrad. So I took a sign language class through a community college (~$300) semester after graduation, didn't get in again. Took next semester off. Last semester took a 2 credit self-defense class (~$200) and applied again and apparently 4th times the charm cause I got in!

That's great, thank you!

Thank you for the advice! I decided to call them today and was disappointed in the information I got. I am still attempting to find a job and don't want to be tied down to a class, that is why I am opting for online. As much as I would love to do the DCP, if another opportunity presents itself, I don't want the class to run my life.

I guess my situation isn't as odd as I suspected! I literally feel the same way as you. I went to a DCP orientation at a college my first semester of college and was immediately taken by it. My degree really never jived with it though, and I decided against it. Now I look back and feel that it really could have opened some doors for me. I appreciate your offer and will definitely contact you if I have more questions. Thank you! :)

Congratulations! I'm glad it worked out for you and I wish you the best! Now I am just hoping to get into a class before they start the end of this week.

Thanks everyone for the advice. This is really a backup plan for the moment, but it would be an amazing opportunity. Things will work out the way they are supposed to! :thumbsup2

They really will. If you're meant to do the program it'll work out for you!

And here I thought that my dd had just the one shot at DCP! She is applying during her senior year...for the Fall '16 program. I figured that if she didn't get in, that was that. Had no idea being a part-time student would work...she can just take an on-line course!! Yay!!!! Thanks guys.

Thank you again everyone! I applied at my local CC and am now a part time student. I'm looking forward to the application process. We shall see what the future holds!

My Son is at Casting as I type, he graduated in 2013 and was not having any luck in the job market. He took one online course at our CC and he is now in Orlando. Go for it.

And now you've got Disney on your Resume, and you know (at least some) Sign Language. Double win. (If you feel proficient, don't forget to take the test to get the SL pin on your nametag)
