An Evil Volcano, Floating Cheerios, And Lots Of Tonga Toast!-May 2010 TR-UPDATE Day 2

Getting there is half the fun isn't it! Great updates! I love road trips...but it would take us 3 or 4 days to drive to WDW so that will never happen....and I hate to fly, but at least I'm there in 4 and a half hours.

Every trip we look at the airline prices and it costs so much more than our gas and hotel so we end up not buying tickets. It also only takes between 10-11 hours to get to Disney and Knoxville has very few flights that are direct flights to Orlando. So by the time you grab a connecting flight it could be a five hour ordeal. But if we lived a lot further away, you can bet we'd be flying. :thumbsup2

Subscribing - going to the Poly for the 1st time in August! Love your report so far!

:welcome: Tosie! Oh I'm so excited for you! The Poly is absolutely beautiful! They're will be quite a few pictures on my TR of the Poly. I miss being told "Aloha!" everytime I walk into the door.

YAY! You started your trip report! I've had a nasty computer virus, so I haven't been able to get on all week until today. Hopefully it's taken care of!

I love listening to you tell a story! :thumbsup2 And, may I remind you that while you could drive from the top of TN to the bottom of TN in one hour, there's no way you could do that from side to side!

Can't wait to read more!

:lmao: When we went down to Disney in 2007 we hit Atlanta at 4:00 on a Friday and there had been a bad storm so there were a lot of power outages. It took us FOREVER to get through the city. After that experience we get a little nervous about going through Atlanta.

Oh, try to be here on a Friday before a holiday weekend....say like the 4th of July, have a Braves game going on, an even downtown and a tractor trailer tips over on spaghetti junction - this is my life!! Jealousy....hold it back!!

My suggestions to people traveling down - DO NOT TRY TO GET THROUGH ATLANTA ON A FRIDAY!! Our "rush hour" lasts from 6am to 7 or 8pm!!! Forget about it!!

Love me some Cracker Barrel!!
Too funny about sleeping in enemy territory! :lmao: I'm a FL resident so to me they are friends. Hope that's o.k and I can stay here and read all about the fun.

Just catching up with your 'journey' - you all look so relaxed! We normally only have to drive as far as the bottom of my road before we're all at each others throats :rotfl:

Hey Alicia-
I'va been MIA but I guess it is not too late to sign up.

Q

Yay, I was worried I had missed so much...all of us early summer WDW trippers gotta stay together!! :rotfl:

I'm here! I've been off the DIS for a couple of weeks, so I'm trying to catch up.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about ATL traffic! We traveled on a Friday, no less, so the traffic was HORRID.

We always stop in Tifton for gas.

Gainesville...what can I say about it? Nothing nice, so I'll just keep quiet. ;) LOL

Looking forward to your next update!

Great update Alicia! I've enjoyed this update. We are driving down for the first time since 2007 and I'm a little nervous about it. I remember thinking Atlanta was crazy too. I'm hoping to get to ATL about 8pm or so. Hoping to stop around Macon for the night as that should be right about half way for us. It will depend on how we feel. If Joe is feeling good we may push through to the Florida state line.

How funny that your Mom was running a little late...I would have been freaking for sure. I have serious OCD when it comes to scheduling and leaving on time for a trip. One year we went with another family and we were supposed to head out at 1am from our house. At 3:30am they called and said they had just left their house which is about 45 minutes north of ours. I was flippin' out big time. :lmao:

Yay! Michelle's here! :yay:

That's the truth! It does take quite a bit a time to drive from one side of the state to the other.

We learned that the hard way. Now we leave for Disney on Thursday so we avoid all the Friday traffic.

:welcome:

Isn't Cracker Barrel the best?

I almost became a FL resident. I love WDW so much, I looked inot moving the family down there. So all FL residents are welcome here! (Even if they are Gator fans!) ;)

Julia, I agree with everything you said. Although Gainesville is a nice place to stay on the way down to Disney.

I took lots of snacks with us so between the DVDs, Leapsters, and food the kids were pretty happy. This next trip we have planned in October, we'll be flying. Since it's just Mike and me I thought it would be nice. But I do like to drive too.

My Mom is never late. I have no idea why she was running late that morning but thankfully it all worked out!

Sorry I've been MIA lately! Last week was a pretty stressful week. We found out our good friend, Gene, who we've known for 17-18 years was going to begin his third round of treatment for cancer. They treat him and it comes back somewhere else. He was in the hospital for 5 days and received chemo all five days. He'll take 2 weeks off and then have 5 more days of chemo. If you wouldn't mind, say a prayer for him. He's just the sweetest guy and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. In the past year and a half he's lost his mother, his wife, and was diagnosed with cancer. And yet, he's stayed positive though it all.

If that wasn't enough, we decided to look for a new house. This seems to be an annual occurance. And it usually happens at this time of year. We actually found a house we loved. But, our house isn't worth what we were hoping so we had to say no to the new house. So now we're looking into renovating our house. I'll let you know if anything happens with that.

During all of that, I did manage to type up all of day 1 at WDW. All 6 parts of it!!! :scared1: Hopefully that will make up for the week I didn't post. :lmao:

So here you go! Day 1 of our trip...
