An almost-girly trip ~ February 2009 TR!

The saddest day is always when you have to leave. I'm sorry that the birthday stuff didn't happen for Kailyn, and I agree, a do-over is necessary. Have a safe trip home, and I hope you had a good time!

Yeah, I hate the leaving part. I'm so glad to be going home, but I hate leaving.

We did have a good time! Thank you!

It's 11:00 now, so you are probably flying up the East Coast to home! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear/read/see all about your trip!!!

Yes, we were! I think I was watching Jon and Kate Plus 8 at that time.

I'm going to be starting it tonight, I think. :thumbsup2

Sorry the tours didn't work out, but since you didn't get to do them, planning a "do-over" trip is def. the way to go :thumbsup2

Hmmm....I wonder if I can come up with a reason when we go for a "do-over" trip :lmao:

Of course you can come up with a reason. There's a lot to do there; I'm sure you'll forget (or "forget") to do something, and HAVE to go back and do it. :rolleyes1

Let's get this trip report started!!!

Day 1, part 1 -- Wednesday, February 11. The traveling and the arrival!

I had a terrible, terrible time sleeping the night before. I knew that we were leaving around 6 or 6:30 AM to be at Logan Airport around 7 for our 9:20 AM flight. I tried to go to bed at 10. I was in bed, but I was wide awake. You know how when you know that you really, really, really need to get to sleep, but you can't, and you lie there, wide awake and getting more and more annoyed? Yup, that was me. I think I finally went to sleep sometime after 11, and woke up about three times before my alarm went off at 4:30 AM. I slapped the snooze button a few times and finally dragged myself out of bed at 4:50 AM. Yes, even right before leaving for Disney World, I'm not a morning person. Not at all. So, I showered, finished packing, and then HAD to go and get myself some liquid energy.

n505059094_1337857_3269.jpg

After that, I made another trip, this time to CVS. Kailyn had just gotten a cold and was feeling miserable. I went to CVS and spent at leave five minutes in the aisle, staring at all the different cold medicines and not being able to find her requested DayQuil. I found tons of NyQuil, but no DayQuil. I finally got some her Advil cold and sinus stuff, since the description of what it was supposed to help sounded good.

After I got home from that excursion, we were pretty much ready to go. We took off around 6:30, found onsite parking, and were checked in, through security, and at the gate by 7:30. Very, very efficient. :thumbsup2

After we went through security and were gathering our stuff and putting our shoes back on, I heard my mother say, "oh, my God. Take those off."

n505059094_1337864_5321.jpg

:lmao:

Not long after we got to the gate and were sitting down, a woman wearing glasses walked by. Big deal, right? Well, that was when it struck me -- I had forgotten mine. I put my contacts in and left my glasses at the edge of the bathroom sink. I said, "oh, no. Ma, I forgot my glasses." Then I started cracking up because I forgot my glasses, BUT I packed two brushes. You can see where my priorities lie. ;) Luckily, my glasses were the only thing I forgot, and I was fine without them and with just depending on my contacts for a week.

The flight down to Orlando, and Magical Express, were both very smooth. Our flight was delayed maybe 30 minutes because of a "mechanical problem." Nothing like hearing that to give you the warm fuzzies, but it turned out only to be a problem with the A/C. We got to the airport a little after 1:00.

I love this airport. It makes Logan look so small and dingy.

n505059094_1337866_5909.jpg

Mom checked us in here,

n505059094_1337876_3315.jpg

we walked the red carpet,

n505059094_1337877_3628.jpg

and proceeded to do as we were told.

n505059094_1337891_5900.jpg

This was also where we had our first encounter with entertaining bus drivers. The guy on the left was our driver, and when my mom approached him, he asked something like, "do you know where you're supposed to go?" She answered, "here?" and he said, "no." :confused3 Then he started laughing and said, "just kidding." :lmao:

n505059094_1337892_6250.jpg

Dad and Mom on the ME.

n505059094_1337893_6620.jpg

The only picture I managed to get of the welcome sign. It really snuck up on me.

n505059094_1337911_5565.jpg

WE'RE HERE!

n505059094_1337913_6131.jpg

ME and check-in at Pop were very quick and very efficient. We were in our room at Pop, in the cell phone building (room 8112), by about 2:20 PM. Not bad!

Walking down to our room.

n505059094_1337914_6410.jpg

We saw this little guy along the way. I was born and raised in Massachusetts, so the only lizards I ever see are the ones that are kept as pets. I was ridiculously excited and I think that some Pop CM's thought I was crazy.

n505059094_1337916_6992.jpg

The weather was gorgeous. Amazing. Wonderful. Perfect.

n505059094_1337918_7579.jpg

This was right outside our room.

n505059094_1337922_8763.jpg

Our luggage was delivered around 4:30, I think. I was DYING to get out and go somewhere, but I was not thinking clearly and packed an extra hoodie in my carryon (I was wearing a t-shirt and a long-sleeved hooded shirt to begin with), and an extra pair of socks, but not an extra t-shirt, and I really, really, really wanted to change. I probably could have dealt with not changing my shirt, but I changed into the other pair of socks that I had brought in my carryon, and then proceeded to step in a puddle right outside our door. So, I needed to wait for my suitcase so I could get an extra pair of socks, or my flip-flops. When I went outside to check and to shake my fist, I opened the door and was faced with the CM who had our luggage. :rotfl: I was so shocked that I just went, "oh!", as my parents and Kailyn were almost busting a gut from laughing.

So, after that lovely encounter, and after I got to change, we headed down to the food court to purchase our refillable mugs and to get something to eat before heading out to a park.

These are the new mugs -- they come with red, yellow, or black tops.

n505059094_1337925_9685.jpg

Kailyn and I got pizza, my mom got pasta, I think, and my dad got a greek salad and put the jalapeno stem on my mug when I wasn't looking.

n505059094_1337926_9996.jpg

Unfortunately, this was where my dad started feeling sick, and was the beginning of him being out of commission for a couple of days.

Up next -- Animal Kingdom for nighttime EMH -- yay or nay?, and Epcot!

YAY for an update so quickly! I thought you would at least keep us in suspense until tomorrow! More please!

I'm so sorry your family had to deal with the yucks on your vacation! I'm still very excited to read all about it and cannot tell you how THRILLED I am you started already :cool1:

Great start so far!
I must always see Lizards when I am in FL. And palm trees. :)

I'm glad you guys made it back home safely. You definitely deserve a do-over trip. That's just totally bum luck that sickness invaded your good time. I'm sure you made the best of it, though, and didn't and won't spend all of your time complaining and lamenting that, because it seems like you are better people than that. There's nothing you can do about situations like that - just make the best of it and try again!

I love seeing the Pop pictures. If nothing disastrous happens, I'll be waking up there four weeks from today.

I'm so glad to see that the new mugs are bright and colorful. :thumbsup2

You guys catch up on your rest for the next few days and get used to real life again (boo), and we'll be here ready and waiting for lots of great pictures and stories!

Yay! You started! I was laughing as I was reading your first TR update, first because the awesome glasses made it on this trip. Love the pic of your Dad wearing them. And then secondly because that face that you are making in the photo with your mug and that jalapano stem! That is seriously the exact same face that I make...the cross between confused, slightly irritated, and trying not to be amused! Ha ha! Can't wait to read more about the trip!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for starting your TR so quickly. I'm so excitted to see the pics. ;)

Duncan Donuts! So jealous. :rotfl:

OMG, those glasses are too funny. I was hoping you would bring them along.

I was wondering what the new mugs would look like. I like them, so colorful.

Maybe it was the jalapeno pepper that made your Dad sick.

The weather was perfect. :sunny:

I had an ulterior motive for starting so early...I didn't want to write that stupid draft for my class tonight. :rotfl2:

Thanks  They dealt with it pretty well. Much better than I would have!

And thank you again! I'M thrilled that you are reading!

Great start so far!

Thanks!

Lizards and palm trees are also my must-sees in FL. The first thing I said when we were landing in Orlando was, "oh, the palm trees! I see palm trees!" I also like seeing the bunnies around the resorts. :)

We did make the best of it -- I mean, it was stinky that it had to happen at that time, but I'm glad that we weren't ALL sick at the same time. We've had great luck with no sickness on other vacations, so we're glad for that. And we were all able to get out for a few days and ride some rides all together.

I love the new mugs! We just made the change -- I think that they changed them over a week or two before we left. I was really excited to walk in the food court and see them. I already have a YOAMD one, I needed a new one!

I'm getting started on that whole "real life" thing starting tonight with class, and tomorrow with work. After that, though, I'm off for a few days -- my dad, Kailyn, possibly Mike, possibly our cousin, and I are going tubing on Sunday. :thumbsup2

Yeay, you started your TR!!! I love the new mugs -- can't wait to get our own!

Aren't they cute?! I just realized that the covers and the handles are the same colors -- I had to check and make sure that my parents mugs were like that too, because I realized that I wasn't sure and it was bothering me. :rotfl:

I could not believe that he thought to pack them! :lmao: When he could finally make it out, he brought them everywhere. I think he even tried to go through the turnstiles at Epcot with them once (he was definitely wearing them in line, because I have a picture), but I either made him take them off, or he realized that he wouldn't have been able to get through while wearing them...they're REALLY hard to see through.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: You totally nailed that expression! Good job!

Oops, I think we posted at the same time -- so I missed you in that first set of replies, sorry!

Yup, my dad thought to bring the glasses. I couldn't believe it at first, but then I kinda could. :rotfl:

I love the new mugs! I like them much more than the YOAMD mugs.

He was feeling sick before the jalapenos, but I'm sure that those didn't help. He thought that he just needed to eat and that it would go away. The same thing happened to me a couple of days before -- I was having stomach pains and nothing else, and I tried eating, but it just made it worse. It happens sometimes when I'm stressed/anxious, but it never escalates into anything more. Anyway, with my dad, I think that it was some non-alcoholic bloody mary thing that he had on the plane, and then probably the black bean soup that he got from the food court. My mom remarked how gross it looked, and I was definitely kind of yucked out by it, too. :scared: But, he was able to eat some jalapenos a few days later, when he knew that his stomach was okay, which I thought was very brave. He LOVES anything spicy. I like jalapenos, too, but I can only eat them in small bites -- he eats them all at once. Then starts tearing up and sweating. :rotfl2:

Avoiding a paper???? That sounds like something that I would do! I've been avoiding studying for my accounting test all day...cause I know that it is going to be unpleasant regardless of if I study or not :sad2: Have a good class tonight.....I spoke with Ann and we might book our tour after my class :goodvibes I'm going to need some serious pixiedust: after my test!

Yay!! You started your TR!!

I love your Dad in the glasses, totally funny. I am also loving the new mugs. I am so sorry your family was sick during your trip. I hope you get to plan that do over very soon!

There's a group on Facebook called "Nothing gets my room cleaner than a paper due tomorrow" -- you better believe I joined that group. :rotfl2: I'll usually do anything to avoid studying or doing a paper; I'm such a bad procrastinator. I remember last semester, I put off a paper for one of my classes for weeks. It was due on a Monday, and I started it the Thursday or Friday before, working on it around my work hours, and I was so stressed! Then people in my class didn't even have it done yet, and others said that they had done the same thing I had done, but they were so nonchalant about it!!! I was so stressed and beating myself up over it.

Let me know if you get the tour booked!! That sounds so awesome. And  pixiedust: for that test!

Yay!! You started your TR!!

Yup, when he finally managed to get up and out, he brought them to all the parks. I can't wait to post the picture of him wearing them on ToT. :lmao:

Thanks :goodvibes Hopefully we'll get to plan it soon. I hated that they were sick, but we made the best of it.

Hopping on board! Found this in MeMoms TR

Yay!! Thanks for joining :goodvibes

Joining in on your report! Can't wait to read more. :goodvibes

:welcome: Thank you for joining!

Day 1, part 2 -- Wednesday, February 11. Animal Kingdom AND Epcot!

After our quick first meal at the Pop Century food court, my dad headed back to the room, and Mom, Kailyn, and I decided to hit Animal Kingdom for their nighttime EMH.

We headed over here first:

n505059094_1337929_939.jpg

We checked the wait, and it was only ten minutes! :woohoo: We managed to walk right into the room where they show you the video -- no wait there.

Dinosaur is one of those rides that I have a love/hate relationship with. I love it, but it scares the crap out of me. At the same time that I'm covering my mouth and screaming, I'm laughing really hard because it's so fun, and because there are kids riding who are NOT screaming. I also laugh at Kailyn, who likes to grab on to the arm of whoever is sitting next to her and hide under it, while screaming her head off.

None of the redneck pictures I took really came out; this was the best one.

n505059094_1337930_1237.jpg

My mom, Kailyn, and I are in the front row. My mom was pretending to be asleep, I was just screaming, and Kailyn was holding my arm, with her head buried, AND covering her head with her other hand. :lmao:

After that, we headed over to Everest.

n505059094_1337931_1542.jpg

My dad, Kailyn, and I all love this ride. I think that my mom feels towards it the way that I feel towards Dinosaur. She'll do it, but then she'll ask why she tortures herself. The backwards part freaks her out because it's so disorienting, which is why I love it.

As with Dinosaur, Everest was only a ten minute wait! I LOVE this queue. I didn't get to take as many pictures as I wanted to because the line was moving so fast.

n505059094_1337932_1854.jpg

I LOVED this little guy with the Mickey ears!! I so wish they sold that in the gift shop.

n505059094_1337933_2181.jpg

Everest was great, like always. I so love that ride. Kailyn and I sat together, and Mom was right behind us with another kid.

After having done Dinosaur and Everest, we all decided that we were in need of a nice, relaxing ride. I had been pushing to go to Epcot, because that's my favorite park, and because I LOVE Spaceship Earth. We decided to hop on a bus to Epcot, ride SSE, and then go back to the room and finally get some sleep. I took a couple of pictures on the way out of AK.

n505059094_1337934_2496.jpg

n505059094_1337935_2835.jpg

I always get so excited to see this.

n505059094_1337936_3175.jpg

We headed straight to SSE -- it was a walk-on.

n505059094_1337943_7990.jpg

I don't really care for the lady who narrates the ride now, but I LOVE the interactive part. Kailyn loves it, too, because it gives the option to pick all different languages. She picked Japanese.

n505059094_1337945_8777.jpg

:confused3

Our future was really funny. We were cracking up because we had no idea what we picked for our future OR what the screen was telling us about our future, but my little character got covered by an avalanche of snow and had a broken arm. I also decided to try to look crazy in the picture. Kailyn just looked normal.

n505059094_1337946_9160.jpg

n505059094_1337947_9544.jpg

We were really tired by this point and wanted to get back to Pop to get a little snack and then crash. I think that these pictures mark the beginning of Kailyn making fun of me for taking pictures of things that I wasn't going to buy. I told her that I got the idea from someone on the Disboards, and she made fun of me some more.

Check out the little Eeyores!! They had on little pink diapers...awwwww. I wish I had gotten one now.

n505059094_1337948_9932.jpg

n505059094_1337949_327.jpg

Some pins that I didn't buy. I actually didn't buy nearly as many as were on my list, but I balanced it out by buying 5 shirts.

n505059094_1337950_726.jpg

We stopped at the food court for snacks. I got a piece of tie-dye cheesecake.

n505059094_1337951_1158.jpg

Kailyn was absolutely disgusted by it and sat with her back turned because she didn't want to see me eating it. :rotfl2:

I ended up being in bed and asleep not longer after 9:30. I was absolutely exhausted.

Next: day 2 -- opening at Epcot!

I don't know whether to think you are crazy or just be really impressed that you were in AK and decided before calling it a night to do one last ride....IN EPCOT!!! I just can't imagine hauling my butt through all that just for 1 ride :rotfl2: good for you though.

And you are completely normal about procrastination. I managed to get through college doing just about EVERYTHING at the last minute. I taught a college class for the first time last semester...I assigned the semester project the second week and not a single student asked any questions about it until after Thanksgiving :confused3 It drove me crazy as an instructor but I sort of had to remind myself I would have done the same thing (although I had NO sympathy for those who complained in the last 2 weeks that the project, the last unit test and a final exam were too much. Obviously these were freshman who thought that!)

I love that you hopped over to Epcot for a ride on SE! Good for you, I hope I can be like that during my solo trip!

The eeyores are so adorable. :lovestruc
