AmyT's Journal (Comments Definitely Welcome!)

Well, I was planning on doing my Pilates DVD last night, but that didn’t happen. I snacked on junk instead… :guilty: I actually made a good choice and while everyone else was having burritos for dinner, I had a big steaming pile of broccoli with Butter Buds. I can’t wait until I am finally out of the “gotta have a snack when I get home from work” mentality. I know it’s all in my head, I just can’t seem to shake the habit! :crazy: We are going out to lunch today. I am vowing to avoid the chips-n-salsa. I am even skipping my morning snack to save those extra calories for lunch. I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, 20oz iced green tea and a DC:

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
8:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; Cantaloupe
11:30am: Chicken; Wheat Spaghetti; Carrots
2:30pm: Egg Whites (3); LF String Cheese; Apple
4:45pm: Beef Jerky (1 serving = 80cal); Cheez-It Crisps (a little less than 1 serving ~100cal); Quaker Multigrain Minis (2 servings = 120cal)
6:30pm: Broccoli (2c); 4 SF Werthers
8:00pm: FF/SF Pudding (70cal)
WORKOUT: NONE
RESISTED: Going on an all-out binge

Marie, thanks! I'm sure you'd do the same thing!!

Jane, it is a morning flight, which has MIMOSA written all over it!

Kate, you are so right. There is also a grocery store nearby, I could always go there. OK, not a good choice - I need to find somewhere they don't sell food!

:cheer2: Great job with the broccoli - wish I could do that. In fact, how do you do that? Congrats on reigning in your food choices!

Amy, thanks for all your encouragement on my journal.

You make such good food choices, and I get good ideas from you! Awesome eating the brocolli while the others had burritos. Major willpower! :banana: Congrats on losing the Mexico lbs already! :cheer2:

The dance class is tough. Starbucks was our mom hang out place until I figured out that there was a library 1 block the other direction! Nice quiet place to hang out and read whille DD's had dance class.

I am so jealous that you are close enough to your cruise to book airline tickets!!! You are going to have such a fabulous time and enjoy your first class seat and all the perks!!! We are a year away today, but it still seems like such a looonnnggg time to wait!

I did really good yesterday! :banana: I wanted to snack, snack, snack and I refused to give in! I did drink an extra diet soda while trying to stave off the cravings, but that is better than 1/2 can of Pringles! Note to self - it IS possible to behave!! :goodvibes I was a little ticked off because I got a honeydew melon that weighed about 5lbs, cut it all up (it was super juicy) and when I took a bite, it was AWFUL! I have never had a tainted melon like that before. I've had some that weren't that flavorful, but never one that has tasted rotten. Another note to self - try a piece of melon before cutting the whole thing up! So yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, 20oz iced green tea, a DC and a Peach Fresca:

6:15am: Grape Nuts Trail Mix Crunch (1/2c); FF Yogurt (1c)
11:30am (@Tia Rosa): Chicken Soft Taco; Spanish Rice (3/4c); Peppermint Disc
2:45pm: FF Cottage Cheese (1/2c); Cantaloupe (1c); Bite-Sized Chocolate (from boss)
6:30pm: Garbanzo Beans (1/2c - I was starving and DH wasn't home yet!)
7:30pm: Turkey Brat on Wheat Bun; 10 Cheetos; 2 Potato Chips; Zucchini (1c)
8:30pm: Root Beer Float Bar
WORKOUT: Weights (30min); Treadmill (35min)
RESISTED: Chips-n-Salsa at lunch; Pringles at dinner; More Cheetos; Goldfish

Jane, I don't know how I did that with the broccoli. That was definitely a first. Must have been fueled by guilt! I know that I have to be super strict with my eating if I want to shave off a couple % of body fat. I'd really love to be at 15% by the time I leave for Michigan. I need to measure again. Last time I was 18.5%.

Anna, thanks to you as well! If I can eat broccoli for dinner, I can surely have just a Diet Coke at DQ! That is my goal for Tuesday. NO EXCUSES! Of course I'll be up all night since I usually don't drink caffeine that late. I better warn DH in advance... :teeth: I am SO excited about this cruise! It's not Disney, which is a bummer, but it will be fun just the same. No kids this time, I'm sure it will be a totally different experience! We have a group of 14 adults going (the same crew that just went to Mexico - oh, my poor liver! :rolleyes: )

Great job yesterday!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

A cruise is a cruise! What fun to go w/o kids. Our 2 older DD's will not be going on our May cruise (can't miss school for 2.5 weeks). DH is still trying to convince me our youngest at home too, but the logistics get way more complicated if she stays home. My plan/hope is that she will LOVE the Club and spend most of the cruise in there!

Have a great Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day Amy!!
Hope your having a great day!

Great job on all your resisting....you are doing an incredible job!!
Broccoli = yuck!!

Hi there,

You are doing such a great job!!! Way to go on all the items you resisted!!!!

I am with Marie, Broccoli = yuck!!!!

You can just order a diet coke tomorrow...I know you can!!

Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Happy Monday :)

Geez, where did the weekend go?!?!? :confused3 Saturday was spent running around, shopping, etc with the kids (DH had a golf tournament) and Sunday we ended up having a bunch of people over for a BBQ. Happy Belated Mother's Day to everyone, I meant to get online yesterday but there was just not enough time in the day! I didn't think I did that bad yesterday, but after I wrote everything down - :eek: Oh well, at least most of it was healthy food...

I have an excuse for my bad behavior at McDonalds - we were out & about and I decided to take the kids there to get rid of the remaining Christmas gift certificates. I ordered a salad, DD6 got a Happy Meal and DS10 wanted a Filet-O-Fish w/no tartar sauce, no fries. I thought that was odd for a 10 year old boy, but that is what he wanted. He ate the whole thing and asked if he could get another one (oh no - foreshadow to teenage years :scared: ). I gave him $$ and had him go order another one. Apparently the workers were confused by his order and actually had to get the guy who took his order to verify that yes, this kid ordered a Filet-O-Fish. Anyway, as soon as he came back, one of the workers walked by with a swirl cone and a hot fudge sundae. They had made an order twice and wanted to know if we wanted them. Of course the kids were giving me the big puppy dog eyes and I told them they could have them. And since I have no willpower and have a soft spot for ice cream, I marched up to the counter and got myself a sundae... :guilty: And of course DS was full and gave me the rest of his. And even though I was full, did I listen to my stomach? NO WAY, I crammed the rest of his ice cream down the hatch... :confused3

Sat:
100oz of water, 16oz FF Chai, 10oz iced green tea, DC:
8:00am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; 3 small Pancakes w/Light Syrup (2tbsp)
12:30pm: Bacon Ranch Salad w/Grilled Chicken; LF Italian Dressing; 5 Fries; Hot Fudge Sundae (1 + 1/3)
4:40pm: Garbanzo Beans (1c); LF Laughing Cow; 15 Pretzel Sticks
7:25pm: Grilled Chicken; Rice-A-Roni (1/2c); Green Beans; EFL Vanilla Mousse
WORKOUT: None
RESISTED: Second serving of mousse

Sun:
100oz of water, 5oz FF Chai, 20oz iced green tea, Peach Fresca:

10:20am: Grape Nut Crunch; FF Yogurt
2:00-4:30pm: Chips-n-Salsa (maybe 15 chips); Hummus-n-Veggies (tons); Tabbouli (1/2c); Macaroni Salad (1/3c); 2 Pitas; Carne Asada on Wheat Tortilla; 1 piece French Silk Pie :cloud9:
7:00pm: Tabbouli (1c); Goldfish (12); EFL Vanilla Mousse; 3 SF Werthers
WORKOUT: TBK (60min); ABT (30min)
RESISTED: Cocktails; Brownies; More Goldfish

Anna, my DS loved the Lab more than DD loved the Club. I think she liked hanging out in the Mickey pool better. But she spent some time there and some with us. We had to drag DS out of there. I'm sure you guys will have a great time!

Kate, thanks!

Marie, broccoli (and cauliflower) took some getting used to. I steam it and sprinkle Butter Buds on it. Even the kids like it!

Jamie, thanks! You are right, I CAN order a Diet Coke at DQ tomorrow! Thanks for reminding me, I won't disappoint you! :goodvibes

Oh man.....McD's ice cream....i don't think i could have resisted that either!
Nice try though!!
Doing great on the exercise challenge.

marie

The Mother's Day BBQ was a great idea! Hope it wasn't a lot of work for you - sure sounds fun!

The good thing about McD's sundaes is they they are small. Once they start passing out free desserts - you're sunk! I'd be the same way.

Happy Mothers Day!

Another holiday gone - now we just have Memorial Day to look forward to!

OK, I am going to be brave post this picture that one of our friends took in Mexico. My back looks pretty buff! I never knew she took this picture until she e-mailed it to me this morning. And while I'm at it, here is one of myself and my darling hubby (who hates the fact that he is getting so gray!) on our sunset cruise... I actually don't hate the way I look in these pictures, which is a pleasant change for me.

DANG AMY!!! You are the ONLY person I know who looks good in HORIZONTAL STRIPES!!! wow!! Lookin good girl!! I agree...great muscle tone in your back....keep up the great work!!
Oh, and tell hubby that salt & pepper is sexy!!! :teeth:

marie

Wow Amy, that is so cool, I can put a face with your name! You look great, and so relaxed and happy! If somebody gives me freebie ice cream, I consider it my God given duty to eat it. I mean how often does that happen? And you resisted cocktails, I was not so good on my Mother's Day. My nephew made me a rum and coke that had about one cup of rum in it in fact! You are doing great!

OK, I seriously need to revamp my food lineup. I am getting bored with my choices lately! There has to be some other good snacks. What are some good protein/carb snacks that I can take to work? I guess I could bring some yogurt w/granola for the morning snack. I need to dig out my EFL cookbook and start trying stuff. Go back to my 1 new thing per week theory. Other than being bored with my food, I did good yesterday – until after my workout... They were giving away free samples of these new frozen nutrition bars. I got a chocolate peanut butter one. YUM. Then I had to go grocery shopping since I didn’t go on Sunday. There was a new kind of dried fruit that I bought (pineapple, mango, papaya – all my faves). BIG MISTAKE. The bag is almost gone already. :guilty: Then I decided that I didn’t want my SIL’s leftover macaroni salad in the house anymore, so I ate it. :sad2: Gee, and I wonder why DS’s Mother’s Day card said “My Mom Likes to Eat”… At least I got a grip and didn’t go on a total bender! :thumbsup2 Gotta get back on track today, that’s for sure. NO ice cream at DQ – I am only going to get a Diet Coke. :cheer2: I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea and a Peach Fresca:

6:20am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
8:35am: FF Cottage Cheese; Pineapple (2 rings)
11:35am: Grilled Chicken (3oz); Rice-A-Roni (1/2c); Carrots
2:40pm: Egg Whites (3); LF String Cheese; Apple
5:30pm: Chocolate Peanut Butter Frozen Bar (80cal); ¾ bag of Dried Fruit
7:20pm: Rotisserie Chicken; Macaroni Salad (1.5c); Broccoli; 3 SF Crème Savers
WORKOUT: Weights (30min); Elliptical (35min)
RESISTED: Finishing off the bag of dried fruit; Ding Dong

Marie, thanks. I really hate posting pictures of myself for the world to see, I am still surprised I did it... DH really hates his hair. Every once in a while he will talk about dying it, but it is WAY too late for that! He'd never hear the end of it from his buddies. I think he just gets self-conscious since he is 14 years older than me... :teeth:

Amy, thanks. I knew if I drank on Mother's Day I would have eaten even more junk than I did already. That's what usually happens. :confused3

Jane, ya, the sundaes are small when you eat one - I had to finish mine PLUS DS's. I am beyond help! :blush:

Amy, great pics!!! Thanks for sharing, I love seeing what people look like after only knowing you by your name for so long!!

Tell DH he looks good. His beard/goatee, whatever, looks like my DH's, but mine has been growing the rest of his hair long. I'm not sure if he's just gotten lazy, and hasn't taken the time to get it cut, or if he's serious when he says he's going for a ponytail!! I think that will just make him look older, ya know, an old hippie or something!! :lmao:

Not sure how to help with the snacks, I'm in a rut myself. I have my afternoon string cheese and an apple, or yogurt and fiber one, but I eat that for breakfast quite often.

Keep up the good work with the exercise!

Amy, your pics turned out great! :thumbsup2 I love the one of you and your husband. You don't have a thing to worry about - you're in awesome shape! Love the one of you at the ocean too -it has a beautiful view.

Don't you love grey hair on guys? My dh has salt n pepper hair. I love how it looks. However, he HATES it! We always tease him because he says that when he looks in the mirror he sees brown hair - and no grey. Actually he's right about his beard which has very few greys - but his hair is full of them. Talking about beards I've never seen dh without a beard. He's had one ever since I met his 27 years ago. If he ever shaved it I don't think I'd know him.

I know how you feel about the snacks - its easy to get bored when you've been doing a program for awhile. I've been getting sliced almonds and throwing them in my cereal or oatmeal for a higher protein content - that way I'm probably only consuming 1 or 2 almonds but feel like I've had more. The Greek pinwheels on p. 302 (EFL) look good too but I haven't tried them.

Thanks for posting those pics!

Hi Amy,
Sounds like you did well today and resisting a Ding Dong is pretty darn good in my book! Hope somebody gives you some good snack ideas so I can borrow them, this is my weakest link with my food. I usually end up eating low fat, high carb junk that does me little good. And thank you again for the chocolate oatmeal recipe, I love that stuff! I love it even after my husband said it looked like baby poop!

Hey Amy.....good job on your resists! You're better than I am! I've been eating like crap for 2 days now! I'll be better tomorrow...I promise!!
As for your husband....tell him to take the gray....it could be worse....it could be coming out!! My DH doesn't have one stinkin gray hair....but if it recedes anymore, there's gonna be a problem! Also, he shaved his mustache twice in 15 yrs. I told him if he ever did it again, they'd never find his body!! :teeth:

Good news - I behaved at DQ!!!!! :cool1: :banana: :thumbsup2 I have such a weakness for ice cream but I overcame it (for one day at least). Bad news – weigh in was 139. :guilty: I was 137 until Sunday’s free-for-all. I really can’t believe I have been struggling so much with this! Nothing I do removes any weight. And since I got back from the cruise, instead of being 135 +/- 2lbs, I am at 137 +/- 2lbs. I have accepted the fact that I will most likely never reach my goal of 125. However, I always have to remind myself so I don’t get too discouraged. This is one of those reminders… In a desperate attempt to get rid of my blubber ring before I go to MI (yes, it’s still there and seems to have stopped shrinking), I’ve decided to up my fruit & veggie intake and follow the BFLW suggestion of no non-fruit/veggie carbs after 5pm. And whenever I get that urge to snack, I am going to open a can of garbanzo beans or veggies. This will be tough, but I will eventually get used to it. I know I am in the best shape of my life, and I want to look like it! I can do this! :cheer2: Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, 10oz iced green tea, a Diet Tangerine Rite and a DC :boat: :

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
8:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; Pineapple (2 rings)
11:35am: Grilled Chicken (3oz); Wheat Noodles (1/2c); Broccoli; 1 Crème Saver; 2 Caramels (boss’s candy jar is back! :sad2: )
2:40pm: LF String Cheese; Carrots; Apple
7:00pm: 2 pieces Homemade Pepperoni Pizza; Cauliflower; 3 SF Crème Savers; Root Beer Float Bar
WORKOUT: None
RESISTED: ice cream at DQ; 3rd piece of pizza; more goodies from candy jar at work
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kate, fortunately DH has good goatee hair. Some men don't (sticks straight out, patchy, etc). It's funny because that is when I knew he was interested in me - a looong time ago a bunch of us were at a bar and I told him (we were just friends at the time) that he had good goatee hair (he had a mustache at the time) and wouldn't you know it, he grew one! :lovestruc
Jane, DH's salt-n-pepper doesn't bother me at all. I think he is just worried that it is becoming more salt than pepper! :rotfl: I need to check out the EFL snack section for some more ideas.
Amy, I will think of some new snacks so you can borrow them! Your DH is right about the chocolate oatmeal. But hey, looks aren't everything, right? I wasn't tempted by the Ding Dongs until DH ate one right in front of me...
Marie, I haven't been doing all that great lately either. I think I'll always struggle in the food department... DH shaved his goatee off for a long time, then just recently grew it back. I told him he is doing it backwards - most people grow one in the winter then shave it in the summer... :confused3
