Amy's Rice Mac and Cheese at the parks?!?!

Hi all,

My kids are both allergic to eggs (DD's allergy is very severe, life threatening). In preparation of our upcoming trip in a few weeks, I just emailed Special Diets for the most current listings of what she can eat at CS restaurants. Mac and cheese has always been a no no for us since the WDW CS mac and cheese has eggs in, but to my surprise (and I'm sure what will be DD's delight!) I saw that Amy's mac and cheese is now available.

I guess I am just curious how this works. We will be on the basic dining plan for this trip. Is there an extra charge for the Amy's product if you are on the dining plan? (I recall seeing some posts a few months ago regarding charging extra for allergy friendly products) DS is2.5 yo and not on the dining plan. If we want to pay OOP for a mac and cheese for him, will we be charged extra? I understand the reasoning for charging extra...just curious so I am prepared when we get there. Is the mac and cheese pretty much ready to go, or will there be a wait?

DD would eat Amy's mac and cheese every night if I would let her! I would say it is easily her favorite food right now, so this is great news for us!

One of the things that I love about the dining plans is that you pay your credit regardless of the price of the meal. Even if there's an upcharge on the meal, it's still one credit. My kids can't eat the Amy's mac & cheese so I can't comment on that but the special allergy chicken fingers had no upcharge.

IF you can find Amy's mac and cheese, there will be a wait. It will not be made ahead of time. If you purchase it outside of the Dining plan, I would expect a higher charge. If they don't charge extra-great.

A young child not on the dining plan is expected to be eating off of someone else's plate, so to speak. Any food ordered for that child would cost you whatever they charge for that item. Not sure what they do at buffets though, as a child under 3 eats for free.

We took our celiac daughter to WDW when she was four. She loved the Amy's mac and cheese. It was available at many of the counter serve restaurants (it comes in a frozen box).

A good strategy is to go to the counter service restaurants at off times and well before your children are "dying of starvation" (this is what my dramatic children often lament).

We have also had mac & cheese at table service restaurants too. It looked like Amy's brand, but I am not positive. I would think that most table serve restaurants would have it available too.

Thank you all for the info. We have been to WDW many times, in part because of how they handle food allergies, but this is either the first time Amy's has been available for us or the first I've known about it. I am very excited for my kids! And No Wheat Pete, we make a point to always hit the CS restaurants early to avoid the confusion of the crowds since we know we'll need to speak with a manager.

Easier said than done when you have kids with food allergies. My DD5 is quite picky on top of having a limited diet, so we always just ordered her something seperate. It worked out well since she has always been a good eater and I could order what I wanted to eat. DS2 is completely opposite. The spicer the food the better for him and he loves more adult styled food. He is also a much lighter eater than DD. I would imagine he will end up sharing food with me most of the times provided that what I order is egg free. We have no qualms with paying out of pocket for a meal for him if needed, but I was curious about the upcharge after seeing on another thread that the Amy's gf pizza was $13. DH will flip if we purchased a $13 order of mac and cheese for DS who would then decide he wasn't hungry! Between safe snacks that I bring with, my food, and the promise of a treat later if DD shares her meal, I would think we could make do with the DP meals. If it's just an extra buck or two for the Amy's, it would be a different story.

I would think we'd be fine at the buffets. The chefs will already be accommodating DD, and I know from previous experience at the restaurants we are going to, that they always bring her out an obscene amount of food. There will be more than enough to share.
