"Amuck, amuck, amuck!" A Pre-TR (link to TR in the first post)

Glad you had fun on the Strip. Sorry about the blister (did you read that French girl's TR w/the horribly lazy sister? That was the funniest blister ever).

So, you've stirred things up at my house. DH is a little tired of DL, but I've never been during Oct, and really want to go after seeing your pictures. DH has a work obligation the weekend of the 17th through the 19th, so I asked him if he would mind if I drove down with a girlfriend that weekend. He said it was OK with him. Now I'm just trying to talk my friend into it. We would probably go into the park only on Saturday, maybe a hotel character breakfast Sunday. I hope it works out.
I started her TR but only got so far before I got sidetracked. I'll have to go back and finish it when I have time. She was a hoot, although her sis was something else!!

That would be awesome if you could go to DL in October!!!! You'll love it. I wish you'd be in the parks on the 17th. That's when some of the ladies from the Girls Only Trip are having a mini meet. About 18 or so of us are planning to get together at Cafe Orleans for dinner.
You and your friend are welcome to join us if you think you can make it. :)

Hi Beth,
Sorry to go off topic, but I have a favor.
I am the HR person at my work and every second Friday of the month I get a birthday cake/pie/treat, some sort of sweets for all the birthdays that month and we all sing and have a good time for about 20 minutes. Anyway, there are usually about 2-4 people each month and I try to ask what people like, and to mix it up a bit. I have had a request for a homemade Pineapple Upside Down cake THREE times this year! I have no problem making a couple for the office but have no clue. And I don't trust an internet recipe because if they turn out icky, I look bad! If you have a fairly foolproof recipe, I would love to try it. I don't have a lot of baking experience, but judging by the look of those cookies, I trust you my friend.;) And I will take pix and let you know how everyone in the office likes it. Thanks.

Now back to your awesome pre-trip report.
Well, there's really no "on-topic" right now. LOL It's a little of this and a little of that, so no worries.

I'll PM you the recipe I use. It's just something I found online, but everyone seems to like it. :confused3
And also if anyone likes carrot cake with cream cheese frosting or bread pudding, I have a good recipe for those as well.

Linda: if Beth doesn't have a recipe, my Mom makes an awesome pineapple upside down cake (and if I recall, other than flipping the darn thing it's really quite easy!) Let me know.

Cheryl
Cheryl, I'd like that recipe if you don't mind passing it on. I'm always trying new ones. You never know when you might like one better or just as an alternate.
Oh, and flipping it is a PITA! I messed up last time and some of the pineapple stuck to the pan. I just took them off and placed it on the cake where they were supposed to be. You couldn't tell. :rolleyes1 ;)

Wow, Beth! I am loving your trip report already and it hasn't even started!

I love all the Halloween stuff! Did I ever tell you that Maddie loves Halloween? She called everything Halloween. Birthday parties, Christmas, Easter, etc...she calls them all Halloween parties.

I am looking forward to more!popcorn::

I just thought I'd share a little of what we did the last two nights while the in-laws were here.

They arrived on Sunday evening, around 5:45. After we helped them bring in their stuff and get settled, Ruben and I took off for our night out. We didn't really have any specific plans.
I nixed any show ideas because I wanted to save money for our October DL trip, so our night out would have to be done on the cheap. Which isn't too hard to do since our room was already free and there's so much to see and do on the Strip that doesn't cost anything.

We started out at the Bellagio. I love it there. The conservatory is so pretty and the fountains are my favorite thing to see on the Strip.

Right now in the conservatory and gardens, they have the Summer Garden Party Show, which is going on now through September 6.

It was pretty, but of course I like the ones they do in the Fall much better. (Big surprise huh?)

And finally the fountains! I could watch them all night. They play different songs throughout the night so it's different each time. We heard One, Singular Sensation from A Chorus Line. Click here for info on the fountains

After the Bellagio we just pretty much walked around on the Strip. Which is how I got the blister.

Huge advertisement of the new Donny and Marie show coming to the Flamingo in September, I think. Not sure though. My MIL loves them and will be back to see them for sure.
DSCF5410.jpg

This was at Caesars Palace. I'm not sure what it is. Obviously some sort of religious alter or shrine. They had benches for kneeling, and incense burning. Lots of elephants, but I don't know what they stand for or the meaning. I'm going to have to look it up. I just thought it was pretty and not something you see all the time on the Strip.

Some of Cher's outfits. Ironically enough I almost wore a circus outfit just like that. :rolleyes1 :rotfl: Yeah, right!

From there we walked around the Forum Shops. We thought about dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, but darn it, I said no so we could save our money for the trip. Trying to be good and all....

This is the curving escalator in the Forum shoppping area. I won't ride the top one though, I'm scared of heights!

More coming up.........

I'll get the recipe from my Mom and post it--the cake part is just a box white cake (love white cake!) The real "recipe" is the topping part. And she's done the same thing when her cake didn't completely come out too! (and no, no one knew)

Do you use rings or pieces? if rings, do you put cherries in the middle of the rings? and pecans?

After walking all over, we finally went to our hotel, Planet Hollywood and dropped off our stuff in the room. It was a nice room, but last time we stayed there we must have been in an upgraded or deluxe room of some sort, because it was much nicer and larger then this one.

It was still fine (and free! LOL) just smaller. I think we also got a tiny bit spoiled staying at the Venetian and Palazzo last time with their huge rooms, floor to ceiling windows, and luxury bathrooms. Having said that though, I'm still not one to spend a lot of time in my room, so all I really look for in a hotel is that it's safe and clean. Anything else is strictly a bonus. IMO.

Some pics of the room:

DSCF5436.jpg

Once we were settled in, we went downstairs to grab a bite at Earl of Sandwich. Second time in like a week! LOL But it's good and cheap and that fit the bill perfectly. Sorry no food porn this time though. We left the camera in the room.

From there we went to play in the casino for a bit. I've said before that I don't gamble because I have rotten luck. But Ruben's mom gave us a card with $50 free slot play on it so we used that and managed to make it last for awhile before ultimately losing it all. Oh well. I knew that would happen.

Inside the casino there's a place called the Extra Lounge. They were doing karaoke night and people were getting really loud so we stopped to see what was going on and ended up staying for a while. It was fun.
Drunk people + Karaoke = Good laughs!! :rotfl2: Some were actually pretty good too!

It started getting late so we headed back up to the room. The next morning we met up with his parents and the kids at the Rio. They have a huge buffet there so we went for breakfast. Normal breakfast prices are around $14 each, but they have a locals special for only $5.99 so it was a good deal.

The rest of that day (Monday) we just hung out with his parents and the kids. That's when his parents decided they'd rather stay at our house another night then use their hotel room. So I repacked our overnight bag and off we went again. LOL

I was tired though and my blister was bothering me, so we kind of took it easy last night. We drove around to some areas near the Strip we hadn't seen before, then grabbed some take out and went to park near the airport.
They have an area there where you can watch the planes land and take off, and you can tune your radio so you can hear the air traffic controllers talking. I know it's odd, but I like listening to them and watching the planes. (just don't ask me to get on one!!!:scared1: ) I always wonder about the people coming and going. Did they win big? Or lose it all? Meet someone and fall in love? Or should I say lust? LOL

After we finished eating we went to the hotel and checked out the karaoke again. There was this one old man who must have been in his mid 80's. Anyway, he got up and sang Ricky Martin's song "She Bang". :lmao:
He was great. And he'd do these little hip movements and shake his booty. So fun!! I took a pic of him, but don't have it in my photobucket yet, so I'll post it later. Wait till you see how cute he is!

We grabbed some dessert and walked around the Miracle Mile shops for a bit, then headed upstairs to the room to chill out since he had to wake up early for work today. Kind of an uneventful night as far as Vegas standards go, but it was nice to just have some alone time with my hubby. And the best part is we didn't spend too much money so I'm still on track with my Disneyland budget!
Gotta keep those priorities straight after all. ;)

Oh, I almost forgot we took some pics of the view from our room this morning.
Lots of construction going on for the new City Center they are building. Looks like a big mess to me, but I guess they are really coming along.

Hey you! I was wondering when I was going to see you over here. :) Thanks for reading along. :flower3:

And that Maddie of yours is one smart cookie in addition to being a total cutie. She knows a good holiday when she sees one. :rotfl:

I'll get the recipe from my Mom and post it--the cake part is just a box white cake (love white cake!) The real "recipe" is the topping part. And she's done the same thing when her cake didn't completely come out too! (and no, no one knew)

Do you use rings or pieces? if rings, do you put cherries in the middle of the rings? and pecans?

Yeah, the one I use and most of the ones I've seen just use a boxed mix for the cake part. :confused3 Fine by me, makes it easier! LOL

I use rings, with the cherries. No pecans because my family doesn't like nuts or so they say, even though I use them in other things like the carrot cake and cookies. I use the juice from the pineapple to make the cake with instead of water.
I'm curious to see what the topping is on your moms!

THANKS FOR SHARING!! Especially since I'm taking a trip there next month. We went in March and did so much waking that I could barely walk at the end of the night. I was sooo sore I had to take some vicodin. LOL. It was fun though.

(Talk about being off topic! LOL)

OKay, I detest pictures of myself which is why you'll rarely see any, BUT I have a question for you ladies reading along. I desperately need some hair help!!!

My hair is very thin. I've had numerous hair stylists refer to it as "baby fine", which is NOT a good thing. It basically means it hangs there and won't hold a curl at all. And it has no volume to speak of. Plus as I get older it's thinning even more. Joys of aging I guess.

Anyway, this is me after I spent about 45 minutes with my hair up in hot curlers:
DSCF5354.jpg

And this is me about halfway through the night. As you can see most of the curl is gone. (I know I look like Casper's twin but it's the flash. I'm not really that pale. Almost but not quite. LOL)
DSCF5439-1.jpg

I don't know what I am doing wrong. :confused3 Is there a certain shampoo, or gel, or hair curler that anyone can recommend? I'll try anything at this point. :sad2: My oldest daughter's hair is the same way so if I can find something that will work for me, maybe I can use it for her too.
So if you have any advice PLEASE share!! :flower3:

Oh you're welcome. I wish my camera took better pics. If I try to take a pic at night or in low light, it comes out blurry. But then when I use the flash, it's too whited out. I guess I just need a fancy expensive camera to get those good night shots. Which isn't going to happen anytime soon unfortunately.

There is a lot of walking here on the Strip. I didn't wear the most sensible shoes either. I wasn't wearing heels like I've seen some ladies wear! I hate heels anyway. I'm already 5'9" so when I'm in heels I feel like I'm going to topple over. :rotfl:
But I should have worn something more suited for walking. And then the second night I could have walked more then we did, but we've seen just about everything on the Strip and can always go back at other times, so it just wasn't worth it to me, kwim?

Good thing you had the vicodin with you last March!! Might want to add that to your packing list for your next trip. ;) LOL

First off I love the pictures. We have never been to Vegas but we may still get there some day. I am for after the kids are even older than they are now. Right now I am feeling so old. My youngest DS started highschool yesterday. Now I have teo daughters in highschool and my son is in middleschool. Yes I am ancient.

As far as making your hair thicker you might try layers. I went through my own time of having problems with my hair being thin from all of my months of being bedridden last year in the hospital. I had the hairdresser do my hair in layers and I have volume again. There are long hair cuts with layers because I know that it is no fun to go short after having lomg hair.

Hi there, I've been away for a week and now I need to get caught up on all my threads.

What book is this? It's been forever since I've read any good books. I used to read all the time. Not sure what happened. I guess the DIS is what happened!!:

It's the Twilight Series, soooooo goood.

The reason I'm rambling on about this is because while I was in there, I was passing by the clothing section and I've NEVER found any clothes I like in Walmart. That's one thing I won't buy there because they are usually just not my style at all. But as I was walking by I saw a Mickey on a folded shirt, so I stopped and grabbed one. It was really cute! Best part of all.....it was only $7. How can you go wrong for only 7 bucks??

So I bought it:

I bought a $7 Kermit shirt there a couple of weeks ago. Love the vest. I would wear that for Halloween.

Question: Does this orange color make it hard to read? I was using it because it's fit in with the Halloween theme of the trip, but does it make it harder for people to see?

No I can see it just fine.

A Hollywood/LA tour would be fun!! You should go for it. Then you can see the Disney Soda Fountain and El Capitan theater. http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/el_capitan/

So I'm assuming this in no where near Disneyland, right? I would definately go there, looks really fun. I'm not really familiar with CA.

I was looking around online and found this great Halloween pic!!! I can't tell which Disney park this is though. Is this the one in Paris? Anyone know?

20071120205720__dsc0956_disney_hall.jpg

That's one scary mickey pumpkin but very cool.

I think that is the DLP castle but I'm not positive.

I wanted to share this pic I found online of the DLP castle from the 5 yr anniversary.

jester.jpg

Many thought the "cupcake" version of the WDW was bad! personally, I like both of them.... they're cute! The funny part was that the guy who took this picture of the DLP one had no idea it was an overlay and just thought that's the way it looked normally. I thought that was cute.

My DH hated the Castle when it was a cake for their 25th. I thought it was cute but he said they ruined it.:lmao: and he's really not a big Disney fan.

It's called a Kitty Litter Cake (that should be your first clue right there!) and here is a link to the recipe and some pics. A word of warning: if you're in the middle of dinner, you might want to not click on the link.

Has anyone ever tried this recipe?? Apparently it's pretty popular as there are a lot of websites that have it. I'm just not sure I could stomach eating it!!!!

My aunt used to make a dirt cake. She put it in a flower pot with gummy worms and then served it with a garden hoe. The poop bothers me.

So cute! I don't recall seeing these last October when we were there, but it's entirely possible I just missed them. In any case, if they have them again this year, I guess we'll be buying some popcorn.

Disneyland_9-23-07_0081.jpg

OMG I would totally buy that popcorn just for the container.

I found another Disney song I love much to my children's dismay. Just because I've played it over and over, I don't know why they are annoyed with me.

Actually, it's kind of catchy and I think it's growing on them. It's titled "Just Like We Dreamed It" and it's from Disney's Once Upon a Dream Parade in Disneyland Paris. They use it at the opening of the parade and during stops along the way.

Now I need a soundtrack for Disneyland Paris. I loved that song too.

Anyone hungry? Just thought I'd offer a snack to all the Trip Report writers and readers out there.

I like to bake so I made some Chocolate Chip Walnut and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies. Help yourselves before DH takes them all into work tomorrow!
But it's strictly BYOM....bring your own milk. We ran out.

DSCF5345.jpg

Have a good weekend.

I'm on a plan with my gallon of milk :rotfl:

I did see on TV that some hairdryer I can't remember the name but they have different styling things for different hair types. I wanna say Vidal Sasson. check that out.

Beth you're SO pretty! :goodvibes I know what you mean about volume-less hair. I can't do anything to my hair either. It just lays there. My mom also has thing hair but never grows it out, she keeps it at a little longer than normal, pixie cut.

I usually get an a-line hair cut because my hair takes f o r e v e r to grow.
Have you ever though of cutting it??

Beth you are so purdy!::yes::
I am in the same boat with the baby fine hair. When I curl my hair I spray it while it is on the iron and then again when I take it off the iron. It holds for awhile. I also have naturally wavy hair, so that helps too.

I have never had luck with rollers. My sister-in-law is a hair dresser, I can ask her if you like.

Hi Beth,
Stumbled over here somehow, and loving your report. Cookies look great! Anyhow, regarding the hair. I have the exact same type! Drives me batty. I know that the challenge is always worse, the longer you have it. Things that help me: volumizer stuff, sprayed on roots, and then blow dry upside down. Coloring or otherwise chemically damaging my hair. It gives it texture. Perming and either blowing it out for a straight look or wearing it curly. I personally hate product in my hair, so usually wear it up and back when it is long. Right now I just cut it from bra strap up to just below the ears, and am getting ready to go major short.

PS I think your pictures are gorgeous, even after your curls drooped, so you should quit hating them.

Cheryl & Beth - I am looking forward to the recipe from both of you.;)

Beth, your trip looks awesome, you saw some great sites and the pix are wonderful. I love the Bellagio ceiling, I have a few pix of it, too. Thanks for sharing with us. And you really are a pretty woman and your hair looks fine!

First off I love the pictures. We have never been to Vegas but we may still get there some day. I am for after the kids are even older than they are now. Right now I am feeling so old. Thanks. I wish some of them turned out better, but oh well. You must make it out to Vegas at least once. And you are not ancient! Don't you know. Disney keeps everyone young. ;)

Thanks for the hair tips too. I've had the same boring style for as long as I can remember. Which isn't much of a style at all really. Maybe some layers would help. It can't hurt anyway. LOL

Hi there, I've been away for a week and now I need to get caught up on all my threads.
Welcome back!

It's the Twilight Series, soooooo goood.
That's what everyone says! I might just start reading again.

I bought a $7 Kermit shirt there a couple of weeks ago. Love the vest. I would wear that for Halloween.
Thanks. I think I saw the Kermit one too. And they had some cute Tinkerbell ones but I liked Mickey. My whole family has Mickey tees, but for some reason I never bought any for myself.

No I can see it just fine.
Good to know.

So I'm assuming this in no where near Disneyland, right? I would definately go there, looks really fun. I'm not really familiar with CA.
It's in Hollywood. I'd say about an hour (give or take traffic time). It was fun and there is a Disney theater next door, El Capitan.

That's one scary mickey pumpkin but very cool.
It is kind of scary isn't it?? :rotfl:

My aunt used to make a dirt cake. She put it in a flower pot with gummy worms and then served it with a garden hoe. The poop bothers me.
:rotfl2: It bothers me too. The dirt cake sounds a little more ummmm, dignified. LOL

OMG I would totally buy that popcorn just for the container.
:thumbsup2

Now I need a soundtrack for Disneyland Paris. I loved that song too.
Isn't it great? I found it on youtube.

I'm on a plane with my gallon of milk :rotfl:
OK! I better make more then. :yay:

Thanks for the pictures of Vegas, I have never been either but it looks so pretty. That tree looks like the one from Pocohontas.
You're right, it does. Still creepy though. :rolleyes1

I should check that out. Thanks. I know there are products and styling tools out there I could use, it's just sort of overwhelming. I'm sort of clueless when it comes to beauty products and hair stuff.

I do need to cut it. It's too long and that just makes it hang there even more. I always go in with good intentions and then end up chickening out and just going for a simple trim.

Beth you are so purdy!::yes::

Oooh, I'll have to try that with the spray. Thanks for that tip. I'd love it if you asked your SIL what product or shampoo is best for adding volume.
I've been to the dermatologist for my thinning hair but was basically told it was due to stress (what? stress? me??) , age and heredity. Great.

Hi Beth,
Stumbled over here somehow, and loving your report.

Hi! Glad you stopped by! :)
I just bought some root lifter stuff, but um, I don't know what to do with it so I haven't used it yet. :rolleyes1 In the second pic, I still had some shape to it. It's usually stick straight. I've thought about getting a perm but the whole chickening out thing kicks in again.

Sounds like you're going to have a whole new look! Good for you. I'm sure it's going to look and feel great.

Oh, and thank you for the nice comments.

I just sent you a PM. :thumbsup2
I love the Bellagio. It's so pretty. That's one place I've never stayed that I would really like to.
Thank you for the comments. I have to say, I'd love to have your DD's hair! She's very pretty, and has a great smile, which she obviously gets from her mom. :goodvibes
