Amtrak Transportation??

Hi, We're traveling this coming March. We'd like to get a town car since it worked for us the last time. Except this time we're arriving from Tampa first via Amtrak. And the car services we've tried don't pick up from the Amtrak Station. Wondering if anyone knows why , or anyone who does pick up from there. Any Help Would be Appreciated.

If you can't find a shuttle you could try taking the Amtrak Silver Star from Tampa to Kissimmee, and from there you should be able to get a taxi or shuttle fairly easily.

We train from Ohio and detrain in Kissimmee, less crowded, quicker and easier to board here, everyone in the world gets off and boards in Orlando, and we have a car service pick up and return us for 82 dollars with a 30 minute grocery stop. We have used a cab from Kissimmee too and the fare is about 38-40 bucks, depending on which resort and route taken by driver and traffic and that's no grocery stop. Cabs are crummy, smelly and the driver can take a longer route to run up the meter but we found a service thats does Kissimmee and they are first rate and very professional.

I'm assuming you are in (or flying into) Tampa prior to your Disney and/or Orlando visit and using the train to travel from Tampa to the Orlando area? The train which serves Tampa (southbound) stops first in Orlando and Kissimmee on its way to Tampa, so there would be no point in detraining at Tampa if you were arriving in Florida by train to begin with.

Coming from Tampa, as you will be, get off in Kissimmee (closer to WDW than Orlando, and the northbound train stops in Kissimmee first anyway) where there will be cabs available. Some of the towncar services should pick up from here as well.

Actually We're flying into Tampa to visit family first. Than taking the train to Orlando. We won't be visiting Disney until after a few days in the Universal Area. Hence why I'm looking to get off there and not Kissimmee. I mean if it's not possible to get a town car it's ok, but if anyone knows of any other means we'd love to take it. We enjoyed the town car greatly the last tiem we visited. Thanks for your help so far!

I know there are towncar companies which do serve the Orlando station, but as I've never had occasion to use one, I can't give you any names. But some people around here have used them, so someone should be able to point you in the right direction. It absolutely is possible.

In the Orlando train station I believe there is a Hertz. We plan on doing this in March.

I take exception to your blanket phrase of cabs being "crummy, smelly and the driver can take a longer route to run up the meter ".
First, as a cab driver in Orlando(2004), I always made sure my cab was clean and fresh. Most drivers in Orlando are either private owners or independant contractors(I contracted with Mears Yellow handicap fleet), therefore there is no need to run up the meter as what they make is theirs not a companies. In fact the vast majority of MY cab rides while driving in Orlando were flat rate and I ran the meter just to show my clients how much money I saved them vs. the metered rate (except from OIA due to regulations).

Most people do not realize these things or the fact that you can pre-arrange a pick-up in a cab just as you do in a town car or limo and actually SAVE MONEY vs. the town car rates. Even though most in this forum have been brainwashed to think differently.

If you wanna get longhauled by a cabbie try Las Vegas, where the companies force drivers to take the long way, drivers don't own the cab they are employees, don't wash and truly are smelly.

I stated from our own experiences with Yellow Cabs from the Kissimmee station in the past. We used them on 3 trips, smelled of smoke, and dirty inside, I'm not going to get into every cab to see how they are but the 3 going and coming were bad. We've had the WDW resort hail a cab from the cab line only to have the driver not know the way to the Kissimmee Amtrak station and ask other drivers, we said, no thanks. If you're going to work for a cab company, you better know how to get to the train stations and airports, speak english so others can understand you, 3 occasions, and not smoke in your cab while waiting for a fare.

As for getting to WDW, we've been to WDW enough , 39 trips, always from the same point to know if we're getting the long way or not, I don't care how the drivers are paid nor do I care about what's in Las Vegas, it's called hosing the customer. You might not have done anything by that nature when you drove but in all our travels using the cab system, from Kissimmee to WDW, same resort and all, rates from 32.00 to 42.00 one way for the same trip, thats bologna.

We'll never use a cab again, car services quote up front, I know what I'm going to spend and the thrown in grocery stop is just icing on the cake. No debate or offense but you do your and we'll do ours, it was our experience that I was stating and not heresay from others.
