Amtrak train info w/pics!All Aboard-Choo-choo!UPDATED

nothing scary here!!!!
Getting on a plane------------now THAT'S scary:rotfl2:

I totally agree.

I am currently on Train 93 that I was going to take from Boston to NYC to catch our train to Orlando. There was a massive lighting storm which took out several switches. So the train ended up going slower then normal. So rather then switching trains in NYC we are switching in DC. We didn't have to do anything. The conductor came to us and told us the plan and told us not to worry that they will take care of us. They have been open and honest and helpful unlike what I have experanced when I fly. Where they seem to want to keep things secret and make things diffecult.

We are considering the train for our next trip. I'm nervous though!!! I've never been on a train and I'm a little scared...

It's not quite the same, but does your area have any commuter trains? If they do take a quick ride, whatever $10, or less, round trip will get you.

That will give you and idea of train travel, but long-distance trains are smoother riding, more comfortable seats, and have meal and sleeping cars available. Unfortunately usually less reliable to be on time.

What exactly are your concerns? If we knew some more specifics we might be able to assuage your fears.

I agree! What is concerning you? reading this thread should give you a great picture of what it is like-pics and all.

Just last week, I flew from Harrisburg, PA to Sedona, AZ. Hated every second of it (especially since my daughter has a pacemaker and has to be patted down - well, I do, since she's only three months old). Sedona was gorgeous. While there, we took a train ride. It was one of those semi-cheesy touristy things. But it was so relaxing and lovely and wonderful. Today, I had to go to Philly for a meeting and took the train. Again, with the nice and relaxing trip. The way back, courtesy of the free wifi, I started to search our travel optioins. I don't know if I can convince my husband to take the train for our trip in January. But I'd sure like to. Maybe I'll let him fly and I can take the train. :goodvibes

We leave on Monday for out Boston->NYC->Orlando train trip. I am so excited I can hardly sit still. I have a bunch of books packed, some new card games, chess and checkers pieces. :dance3: I am ready. :)

Oh no, I hope all went well in your travels and vacation. I see that the tropical storm is hanging over. Hope there are enough breaks to get a great time in the kingdom.

Our train was over two hours late into Orlando because of the heavy rain but it all cleared out yesterday and is beautiful.

This train trip was our worst yet with lighting hitting the switches between Boston and NYC and the worries about the tracks flooding in GA and FL. With that said it was so much better then flying.

Thanks for posting that link to the blog. That was very informative and I can't wait to go next May.

You'll be going the week before us. We're planning on the day after Memorial Day. Can't wait. This will be our first amtrak trip and it's been over 10 years since we've been to Florida.

Woo-hoo! :cool1:
Trip is booked. Thanks to Amtrak Guest Rewards the return trip is free. Booked a bedroom both ways.
Now the hard part is waiting until May 28th.

Lot of May people! I just booked a bedroom for the way down on points for May 1. Moms gotta book our return on her points.

Hello everyone. I have my Amtrak booked for next month and we are very excited! The last time we did this we used Mears and were happy. Before I book with them again, I wanted to see if anyone used any other taxi/towncar service that they would recommend. Thanks!

I thinking about taking the auto train home instead of the the trip to Florida I currently have booked. ( I made the mistake of not booking round trip months ago and now the prices have really gone up)

Does anyone know if I can just call and have the train switched and pay the price difference?

Yes, it can be changed especially if you haven't printed your tickets. If you don't have tickets, it is easy as anything. Basically, you call them with your reservation number and say you want to make changes to one way or the other. They will know what to do from there. If you have tickets, you need to make the changes and return the physical tickets you have.

Okay, so anyone in central NC want to save some money on Amtrak tickets? I have a refund voucher that expires August 22. The tickets have to be bought by then, but travel can be anytime in the future. The refund voucher is for $186, but I will sell it for $130. I would just need the person to meet me at either the Durham, Cary or Raleigh station. I will need to pay for the ticket(s), but they will be in your name. If anyone is interested, please PM me. Someone said they were interested when I posted before, but now they are not responding to me.
