Amtrak train info w/pics!All Aboard-Choo-choo!UPDATED

Change into PJS before they put the beds down. There is NO room after that. I actually felt kind of claustrophobic in the roomette. I was not able to sleep well because of the bumpiness and the noise of the whistle every few minutes. I am going to try using my sound machine on the ride back.

I'm used to tight spaces. I used to drive a tank in the Army so this is probably nothing to me but for my wife...I'm hoping she isn't claustrophobic. Let me ask..lol

The size of the room is 3'6" x 6'6" just for reference. About the size of my closet at home(and I don't have a walk in closet)

Whoa, the roomette is starting to sound like the sleeping quarters of a submarine!

I guess we'll find out in person lol

Hi Friend :wave2:
I wondered about the room during the day time. Do you think it is about the same as two seats in a row, or is it too boxed in. This trip back we have a delux room (driving down due to rates) but in the future if it was just dd and me, I was thinking a roomette would be a cost savings. I know I can get out and about, so that will be a help. For that many miles being in a car or a train is space confining to me.
:surfweb:

I know where that is. Yeah...that part of town is very icky. My husband is a Raleigh Police officer and that just became his district. We are having my dad take us and drop us off and pick us up. I wouldn't want to leave my car there. I will do my best to get by there tomorrow.

Headed down that week too, thinking about packing already. Hope the weather is better this time. Last trip in Spring of 09 was terrible rainy, stagnet rain system with tornado's not far away three days in a row.

Yeah, I thought I was prepared, but I wasn't, LOL

The two seats face each other. There is definitely not as much leg room as when you are in coach. Of course you can get out and about to the lounge, dining car, etc.

Quick question about the roomettes. Will there be enough room for 2 small rollers or do we have to check those in? These are airplane compliant and are sized to fit in the overhead compartments but will they fit into the roomettes?

There is a space up above that can hold 2 rolling duffels. We had 4 of these, and we stacked the other two on the area between the edge of the beds and the side of the roomette. You should bring your own pillows if you like to have your head up a little. The ones we got were REALLY flat.

So, is it customary to tip the attendant if you have a roomette? I tipped mine $10, and I don't know if that was too much or too little. We ride back on Friday night and I want to make sure I am tipping the right amount for that leg.

Also, for those who have gotten on in Orlando, the train leaves at 7:24. Did you get dinner?

Watching to see, I thought the same was in reverse going back that the veh has to be there before 3PM they will not load after that time, and then the dinner and breakfast would be the same times.
Did you have the wine tasting? I saw that on the web site.:surfweb:

No, we're not on the Autotrain, so we don't have to load a vehicle. Didn't see anything about a wine tasting, but I don't like wine anyway.

There's an attendant? What kind of services do they do? make up your roomette? Bring water?

I'm dying to find out about tipping. My trip is in 2 1/2 weeks! This will be my 3rd AMTRAK ride but first time in a roomette! So excited!

The attendant turned the chairs into beds as we got onto the car, brought us water, helped us with our luggage, came and let us know when the dining car was open, turned our beds back into chairs, kept us up to date with when we would be getting to our station, answered questions, etc. There is a call button in the roomette where you can call them, but we just asked when he came by. He was only assigned to our car. Another attendant was assigned to the other car.

Oh cool! Then I think tipping should be fine. I'm thinking around $10-$20 range is norlmal for that kind of services.

Yeah, I thought so. Now I'm looking at my post and it sounds like I was saying he was assigned just to us. I imagine there were 20 roomettes in the car and he was in charge of all of them.

That sounds about right. On our way down last year in a bedroom, we tipped our attendant 20 dollars since he was awesome and went above and beyond. He wouldn't even let me get coffee or water myself! We're hoping for him (Kirk) again in a few weeks! Way back home was a different story...a different attendant who was lucky he got 10.

We left our car there and didn't have any problems.

Anyone has photos of the actual roomette? I saw a few closeups but not the full view of the roomette. I think the computerized views on their site is a bit misleading lol

I guess I'll get some photos soon in 16 days so I can share here for the future Amtrak travellers. :)

Did you try a Google image search for roomette photos? link

Thanks!

You know...today must have been a weird day for me. I'm usually Googling(sp) for stuff if I can't find the answer here.

Maybe it's because I'm 16 days away from leaving for WDW? Whooohooo!
