I know I won't make it by; we live 45 minutes away. If you happen by, please let me know. We drove through after we picked our tickets up from Raleigh and I don't remember it being blocked, but I also don't remember what the signs said regarding long-term parking. Since the station isn't open, I don't know how I'd get a permit I have been calling the Raleigh station, but all I get is a recording

Not a problem. We are always up for a trip to the Amtrak station! We loved our trip in September.

Was the station closed at that time? I am a little worried about waiting outside on the platform for the train to arrive. Last time we rode, the train was over an hour late. I am considering calling to see if I can just get on in Raleigh if I can't get a firm answer on long term parking at Cary. I have someone to take me, but noone to pick me up and bring me home to Hillsborough. The rest of my family is coming back the day after me.

Have fun! Have you been to the Alliance station lately? My husband and I went to DC in June and were surprised that there was a much nicer station up. It was larger and the coverage was much better. My DD worked at the admissions office at Mount Union College in Alliance and said that the college always wanted to improve the "look" of the amtrak station because many students were interested in traveling by train, but were often shocked by the appearance of the station. So I wonder if they had anything to do with it. Regardless, it's a great improvement.

No trips for me for awhile-except maybe a weekend down to NYC.Waiting to head to WDW when construction is done.Please fill me in on it when you get back!

Where is the train station in Cary? I don't think I have ever noticed it. We are getting on in Raleigh in October. Did you get an answer? I can probably get by the station in Cary tomorrow if you need me to. Are you looking for a sign about parking? Let me know!

We've never seen a station in Alliance......we board at 3am....and it's listed as an unmanned station....we walk about 150 yards down to a plexi-glassed booth 10'x6'.....and wait for the train...no one around at all....would be super to have any kind of inside station open.....no bath rooms....if you must, you go in the weeds.....but it's the closest place for us to board.......guess me and the mrs. are going to have to make a journey to Alliance and check it out......fingers crossed.....it would be wonderful.....we usually call Alliance Police and informed them our car will be in the lot to keep an eye on and if they have a unit available to cruise thru when we board...that's how lonely and desolate the area is..

I think I gave the wrong impression of the station. I guess it's not really a new "station"; it's still unmanned. But the plexi glassed booth has been replaced with a brick structure which is much nicer than before. I believe they are also adding bathrooms. It just looks so much better. I know what you mean about how desolate the area is...we only live about 20 minutes away so we can just keep up to date on the status of the train and leave when we need to. We also call the Alliance police when we leave our car, but I never thought to ask the police to have a cruise thru when we are waiting. Sometimes it is just me, or me and my youngest daughter, so that is good advice.

Its at 211 North Academy Street in Cary. If there is a sign, that might be helpful. Otherwise, I think I have a friend who can take me and pick me up and I will just leave my car at her house. I'd rather not get on in Raleigh. The station was packed last time and it is in a kind of scary part of town.

I know where that is. Yeah...that part of town is very icky. My husband is a Raleigh Police officer and that just became his district. We are having my dad take us and drop us off and pick us up. I wouldn't want to leave my car there. I will do my best to get by there tomorrow.

Well, it was running 30 minutes late this afternoon, 2 hours late at 8pm and latest is 2 hours 24 minutes, so it seems to be getting worse. We're about to head out, get there around 11, just to be safe.

The train ended up being 3 hours and 30 minutes late to the station. I was too tired to sleep when we got on board. Boy, those roomettes are tinier than I thought,too. They cram a lot into them though We were able to get both breakfast and lunch, since we were still on the train at lunch. We were over 4 hours late arriving to Orlando. Hopefully, them trip back will be on time. They said that inspectors held them up in New York or something like that.

Maybe so. It is just a pain when the 1-800 person tells you the train is late, but you should be there earlier in case it makes up time. Yeah, I want to sit and wait for 2 hours, ya know? I don't know what happened between 11:45 when they told us the time was 12:11 and 12:11 when it suddenly jumped to 12:52. Just hoping everything is on time next week. I only have 2 days of rest before our teacher work days start and I'd like to spend them at my house

Amtrak had some train issue yesterday at Penn so probably that was it.

22 more days before we go chooo chooooooo!

We definitely got a roomette this time around. The last time it was a bit unbearable because of the people snoring or chatting on the phone. Who chats on the phone for 20 plus hours??

Plus with a roomette i can change into PJs and relax!

Change into PJS before they put the beds down. There is NO room after that. I actually felt kind of claustrophobic in the roomette. I was not able to sleep well because of the bumpiness and the noise of the whistle every few minutes. I am going to try using my sound machine on the ride back.
