My family was going on a long weekend trip to WDW and my daughter and I decided to take the Amtrak train early Saturday morning from Delray Beach, FL to Orlando. Flying would have cost us $180 and my husband and teen boys were driving up that night after an important baseball game. SO...we booked a sleeper car w/bathroom which included meals and decided to have a great train trip.

Amtrak's AAA rate was only $115 for the two of us. We got a sleeper room with bathroom, arm chair, table and couch. It was very roomy. The room itself was a little worn but was clean. We were provided with pillows, bottled water, ice and our steward was very kind.

Included in the train fare was meals in the dining car. We had a hot breakfast although the food was not so great :guilty: The staff in the dining car was so kind and friendly. We also had lunch and that was MUCH better, their chicken pizza was really good and came with a salad.

There is also a snack car.

It was a great experience and I had arranged for Tiffany car service to pick us up at the train station and bring us to the Hard Rock hotel. The driver was really sweet, the car a bit worn but clean. They were prompt, friendly and I will definately use them again.

Any quesitons, let me know! :)

I have problems with feeling vibrations on floors with elevators etc after I travel. Must be an inner ear thing or something. But how was the motion on the train? I have often looked at amtrak thinking... would I....

Can't say that there is a an actual vibration but rather a very rocky ride. At times the train lurched side to side and forward. Kind of alarming at times but not to noticable about 80% of the time.

I dont think I will do Amtrak ever then. I would be feeling that for days! :dance3: kind of like this but not happy!

We also had a very good experience traveling Amtrak this week. We went round trip from Raleigh, NC to Kissimmee. 5 adults, 2 children. We got 1 roomette for DM and DN4 and 5 coach seats for the rest of us. We'd gather in the lounge car, played cards, etc, then seperated at bedtime. Worked very well.
The "rocking" mentioned reminded me of mild turbulance on a plane, nothing more.
We'll definately ride Amtrak again!!
Actually, I was surprised at how well things went after reading negative reviews on this board. I think it's just like driving or flying, some trips are better than others, but none are worth writing off!

we have been taking amtrak down to disney for prob. over 8 or 9 years..........hah i am the one who does not like to fly. we have always gone with just coach seating. the last 5 or 6 trips my dd has brought a friend. one year we had 2 friends, but that summer we got special with AAA. pay for 2 adults and upto 2 kids each travel free. so we had 6 seats, just to even it off, so we dont sit with a stranger for t hat long. we have had a few really good trips, with no delays or short delays. we have had a coupld of trips from ****..seriously , with some strange people........hah. but also the kids have met other nice kids . this summer just me and my husband went. so i booked us with a sleeper............i could not believe the diff. it made. my dd17 said to me, sure us kids arent going, you and dad get a sleeper...hah. of course ......it was really good , ;having your own space, esp. with your own toilet and sink, etc. we really enjoyed.although even with AAA discount , we probably could of flown for half the price, but i do not fly. it was costly, but we really got to relax and enjoy it. plus we were really rested both ways which was nice. we usually connect in wash, dc down to fla.

I'm glad to hear some positive feedback. We are taking amtrak down this dec. I'm alittle nervous bc its just me and ny 2 children, so someone will seat by themselves or with a stranger. My children will bring their dvd's and gameboys so hopefully it won't be too bad. It will be worth it when we arrive in disney.

Glad to hear it is a pleasant experience. DH and I have been wanting to ride from Savannah to Orlando but never have, maybe now we will!
