Here are a couple of questions for anyone who has visited Holland.

I'm going to de Eemhof Center Parcs this summer which isn't too far from Amsterdam. Has anyone used the Park and Ride scheme to get into Amsterdam and if so is it easy? I've read the P&R website but it doesn't make it clear how it works if more than 2 people are in the car.

Also my kids are 12 and 15 should we bother to visit Efteling theme park (they find Legoland Windsor boring) or should we just stick to the nearer 6 Flags (Walibi World?).

Is there anywhere else we shouldn't miss?

Hi Libby,

if I were you I would go to the nearest station (Ermelo) and take the train into Amsterdam. The trains are frequent and fast and it would be the easiest.

Efteling has changed a lot since the original "fairy tale park" and now has 2 coasters, a water raft ride etc. if your kids are into thrill rides then 6 flags is more of an Alton Towers type place with just rides, no theming. Try www.efteling.nl to see if they would like it.

Being biased I would of course say come and visit my home town of Amersfoort, which is very charming and quite near the Eemhof. Visit on Friday or Saturday for the market days. And there are a lot of festivals (let me know when you will be there and I can tell you what's on) There is also a nice zoo in Amersfoort (where I do volunteer work!)
The Dolfinarium at Harderwijk is very nice if you like that type of thing.

Zwolle is also a very charming town that not a lot of tourists visit.

There are nice beaches on the lakeside

Don't know how long you're staying... a lot of the smaller towns have activities during the summer so plenty to do there. You will also be near the Veluwe with the Kroller Muller museum and wildlife (deer, wild boar etc.)

Let me know when you will be here and I can find out what will be on near you.

Thanks for the information. We'll be there for the first full week in August.

Do the rail stations in this area have car parks? (sounds like a silly question but we got stuck in Denmark with the local station having a 2 hour time limit for parking.)

Being at Center parcs we'll have things to do, but I'd like to get "outside" for some trips. I'm off now to Google the places you mentioned.

Most rail stations in Holland now have P&R, if you want to check train times, parking etc. try www.ns.nl there's also an English version.
