Amount of patience needed for Disney add-on?

I called my guide 2 weeks ago for my very first add-on, unfortunately at BCV. (It wasn't til after I called that I realized what a feeding frenzy is going on at DVC!!)

Realistically, how long should I expect to wait for points to become available? (I only asked for 35 max.) I've read all the threads on resale, and it seems like some add-ons take hours, others take months.

I know my guide is checking every day. I don't want to bug her with unnecessary phone calls. I just want to settle my nerves a bit for the long haul, if that's what's needed...

Thanks much,
nhw

That is a really good question. I guess they have to wait for any resales that come back to them and judge whether to buy it back or not and then offer it to you. We, on the other hand, have bought our package as a resale at BWV and Disney fairly quickly refused to buy it. I imagine there were people on wait lists wanting to buy points, but Disney wasn't interested. We are waiting for Disney to (hopefully) refuse another package we are trying to buy again at BWV. Our resale salesperson told us that Disney isn't buying alot back right now...very small percentage that they are buying. So, I'm not sure what prompts Disney to decide when to buy back. Maybe I'm getting this somewhat wrong, but that is how it has been explained to us.

I would check the resale packages online regularly to see if you find a BCV package that maybe will fit your needs.

Good luck!

Thanks!

Las3888, everything you say makes sense. It's interesting to watch Disney control its market!!

Lexxiefern, I can deal with 7 weeks, although it would be nice if I could get my add-on in time for me to bank the points...

I guess I will sit tight, calm down, and watch the resale market (check every day -- the way my guide is checking the Disney market :-)).

I also called my guide about 2 weeks ago for 40 add on points at BCV. I noticed on Timeshare that there were 100 BCV points for sale wonder if Disney will buy back the points.

Is there a min amt you can add on?

Any idea how long it could take for 50 at BWV?

25 points is the minimum

My first add on BCV Feb use year I got right away(it was in the computer when I called Byron). It was for 45 points. (had to pay cash for under 50 points). Now I still have add-on-itis and I'm waiting for 75 BCV and 50 VWL Feb use year. That should last me awhile. Well maybe ;) I'm in no rush though.

My guide told me that I could still bank all my add on points even if we get to the normal cutoff date. She said that they realize the time involved to get everything processed.

Disney-Kim, that is good news about being able to bank the points. I think that is what has been making me so nervous about all of this. Knowing that, I can definitely wait...I have a December use year, so May 31 is my last banking day. That's 7+ weeks from now. Phew!

Why do you say "unfortunately at BCV"? do you not like your home resort? If this is the case maybe you should look for a different resort to buy in at you do have that option I think. Now in the case of our add on at the BCV we had to wait 3 weeks for a 50 point add on for a Aug. use year.:earsboy:

Oh dear, I didn't mean to give that impression. I love BCV. We joined DVC just because of BCV.

The "unfortunate" part is that BCV seems to be in big demand, and ROFR seems to not be happening much. When I first called my guide, she said that adding on "may never happen" (but then she softened up and said that if points come in, she would be totally excited).

Hearing that you waited only 3 weeks makes the future seem very "fortunate"!! Congrats on your add-on! :sunny:

no telling how long, we did an add-on in dec, were walking by the office and decided to ask about some points, they at first didn't seem to know what to do with us, had to wait for someone to be available, it was not our assigned guide, he was on vacation, well after the guide went out of room for about 10 minutes came back with 32 points available, so we bought them on the spot, had ourselves put on waitlist, came home and got a call about 25 available about 2 weeks later, but nothing since, and i've made regular calls about bcv
so we finally sort of gave up, just passd rofr on an okw resale. and are waiting rofr on bwv resale, dw and i wanted some resort variety anyway, and each has suitability for different times, bcv for flower , bwv for food/wine and okw for our annual early dec xmas decoration trip, that one usually has family along so we need to use more points anyway

If it were me, I would keep bugging your guide. To be honest, I am really not sure how much good it will do, but at least they will keep you on their mind. I called my guide several times before our March/April trip and was told there was nothing for BWV. When I got there and pushed the issue with him (he wanted me to buy SSR), he came up with 500 points available April uy. I took 50 points right away, but my impression was that they are really focused on SSR sales - and since I was standing in front of him money in hand - he figured its sell me the BWV points or nothing. This was my first time in a DVC office (we bought resale originally), but the place was packed!!!! Hopefully they will do well with SSR, and start opening it up for add ons at the other resorts again. Of course for those looking at resales - that means a more active ROFR. Good luck everyone on your add ons:cool:
