Was just watching Man vs Food and he visited an Amish restaurant.

didnt know such a thing was there but it looked good

Amish food is delicious! There is a restaurant by DH's work called Mary Yoders that DH loves. Some of the local inns around us have Amish women cook for them. Love the food!

We have an Amish community about 15 miles from here. I need to find out if they have a restaurant now. I used to love going to the Amish store.

I think life would be easier if I were Amish. I don't mean physically, but mentally. That would be nice.

There is a place in northern Indiana, an amish community, called Das Dutchman Essenhaus, it's an amish restaurant, and they serve "family" style. Their food is just about the best-home cooking (amish) I've ever had in my life.

But to be honest, I don't see how it's really any different than the kind of food my mom and some of my aunts prepared years ago.

I think they use the amish theme just to bring in more business. Although they really don't have a reason to have to TRY and bring in more business, they would have it anyway.

We live in the heart of Ohio Amish country and love to shop at the Amish bulk food stores for cheese, nuts, natural peanut butter, etc.
The food is always high quality and the prices are low. Can't go to Amish country without stopping for lunch!

We used to have the Amish Door restaurant right in town-but they closed when the economy folded.

Also live close to some Amish Communities, not only good food but super clean

I grew up being fed some Amish cooking. My mom was raised in PA. I still make a mean Shoofly pie.

Yum!!!

OMG!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amish cooking! Chicken corn soup, pot pie (and not that imposter stuff with the crust!), raisin filled cookies... oh my... I so miss home now. :goodvibes
Me too! Don't get me wrong, I miss my family in Lancaster Co. But I really miss the food!:rotfl2:Whoopie pies, shoo fly pie, fasnacts, chicken pot pie, chicken corn soup, amish potato salad, apple dumplings and funnel cakes, cracker pudding and red beet eggs, and of course scrapple(a favorite of DH). The subject of foods we miss comes up quite often in my household.:lmao:

And if anyone is looking for the best potato chips in the world, look no further than south central PA. And don't bother with the "healthy" chips(made with veg oil). If you are going to eat something bad for you, be real bad. Get the chips made with lard. Mmmmmm...lard(ala Homer Simpson).

Essenhaus is some good food. Amish Acres isn't to far from there and it's pretty good as well.

Both of these are about an hour from where we are. There are a couple of families here local that have restraunts, nothing on the scale of the previous two, but still serve up some pretty tasty food.

Lancaster Co. PA has a lot of Amish and PA Dutch restaurants (they are similar in my opinion)....I couldn't eat there too often. Major weight gain!

Love whoopie pies and ham loaf! We have visited Amish restaurants before, they are better than any other places we've gone. We cook like that a lot around here and also have some Amish communities.

So would they men be required to wear hairnets on their beards? :confused3

I'm sure they still have to follow certain food and safety guidelines, so I would assume yes, they would have a beard net. However, since it is an Amish community, there might be more women in the kitchen. I don't know if there's any gender rules on this.
