Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

You had electric kettles in 1776:rolleyes1
No but we did start to change the language particularly around the 1780’s. We did invent the first underwater battle submarine though, known as the turtle. It semi-worked, yet the British repeatedly refuse to clearly identify it as an American invention, or so I’m told. :-)

For the record, people in my family mostly called it an electric kettle. I think the nickname was used more in the past than now. :confused3

Canadians, are you going to watch the super bowl tomorrow and if so who are you rooting for?

Canadians, do have any questions about our holidays? Also bonus question: Do you say your going on a vacation or on a holiday when taking time off?

I’m only watching the halftime show. I don’t care who wins or who’s playing for that matter.
Lost interest when the Bills were eliminated. lol

But I am excited for the halftime show 😊
I’m probably going to skip halftime this year. Nothing against the performers, I’m just not a fan of their music. Looking forward to a bengals win though. :-)

I’m not a huge rap fan but I like at least one song from each performer. I’d watch if we got the commercials, but we don’t, so no point.

For me, a holiday is taking time off. A vacation is when I actually go somewhere during my holiday.

But when I really think about it, I don’t use either words very often. I might say something like, “I’m going to Disney on the March break.”

Husband and son will watch the game have no idea who they want to win. Usually check out the commercials the next day if they say there are good ones.

We usually say we are going away never vacation or holidays. How I would love to say that again soon…lol
