Changing points used for reservation

This is probably and easy one, but I can’t remember the answer. I have a June use year and was going to book points at the 11 month window for a stay October 2026. We have until the end of January 2026 to bank our 2025 points. However, we are not 100% sure if we want to take a weekend trip in February 2026 yet so we may need those 2025 points.

If I booked the October 2026 stay at the 11 month window using 2026 UY points, would I be able to switch the points used for that reservation to the banked 2025 points later (if we end up not using them for a February trip and bank then in January)? Or would I need to bank the 2025 points before making that October 2026 reservation?

My understanding of the system is if you hold those points until closer to your banking window, once banked, you would then modify that reservation you made for October & it will fill it with those banked points over the current UY points, putting those remaining back for use or banking that year.

Yes, this is correct.

@DVCSunDevil just make sure you modify the October trip in your 2026 UY more than 31 days in advance or it would put the current UY allotment into holding.

I would confirm also with member services and of course do the points swap with member services.

You don't have to confirm or do the points swap with MS. It can be done just by modifying the reservation after banking. The modification will result in the reallocation of the points to use the banked points first.

Thanks I only recommend doing it with member services because they generally are very careful and not all information from these boards or any other online information is always accurate. But yes it can be done without members services.

I would say these boards are pretty up to date on DVC and if wrong or somewhat inaccurate info is given someone usually jumps in with a correction. We have @Sandisw here who is on top of it all as well and who is well versed in DVC.

I can't speak for other online groups or Facebook as I don't belong to any.

However, your suggestion has some merit for someone who may be shaky about using the website and it certainly won't hurt if they decide they are unsure and want to confirm with Member Services.

It all really depends on who you get at MS.

One time I needed to do this exact thing, but the website was going through an “enhancement” and I kept getting errors and had to call.

The MS CM told me it couldn't be done because I was trying to circumvent home resort advantage. I own one resort. The reservation was at that resort.

She put me on hold, checked with a supervisor, and it was magically completed. YMMV.
