Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

@mommasita ,

I rarely see the news anymore due to streaming, caught that yesterday was not an improvement and you all had the worst air for any city in the world.

Hoping it improves soon for you.

Most of my treasured ones are in Montreal.and the townships, so thank you for the heads up as well as messages off to them.

Here's to some positive movement for you.

No, not at all.
Although maybe The Canadian (train across part of the country). Laughing. I have taken it a few times & it never fails that it is an American customer complaining about the lack of animals seen a la "We were promised.animals". 😆

I am sorry Buzz, I could not resist..

It certainly is not the British on that train, they are often in the bar car and the dome car having way too much fun! Laughing. Loudly..

Canadians, is there a place in Canada that Americans should avoid to visit due to anti American bias? I always think of Canada as a welcoming place overall but I wonder if there are places you would recommend to avoid.
:sad2: Oh for Pete’s sake...no. Nobody cares where visitors are from but if you act like a loud, entitled jerk, the guess will be America.

I don't think it's a ridiculous question. I would think Canadians are as diverse politically as Americans are. Different communities in every country think different on a variety of issues. I have met a small number of people (yes I know that is not the majority of people on earth) that as soon as you say you are American/something positive about the country, they will in return be spiteful about it or immediately bash someone for being American. I would say 90% of the USA is welcoming (with the remaining 10% most would avoid). I'm not trying to be political. Just generally curious. There always seems to be a poll every year from our county's allied countries and their citizens on what the think of Americans. I would be interested to see what the latest one from Canada said.:confused3

Does YouTube have your local/national news? NBC News has its latest national news episode after airs on its YouTube channel for example.

Ya, thank you . Yesterday was probably the worst. It’s hard, because on one hand we are fortunate that we are not affected directly by the fires, and pictures and the like are heartbreaking. On the other hand, well it’s just really sucky when you are healthy, our neighbours had a lot of difficulty breathing in the morning and did go to the ER.
Today is slightly better, still the foggy smoke, but it’s trying to clear. Rain is in the horizon 🕺

Pretty much 💯
I mean we are bordering countries @Buzz Rules . Tourism floats both our boats, or it should. We have more tourists downtown than locals right now. Cheers to that
Glad to hear it. Like I said, I'm just curious based on the small sample size I mentioned. American can sometimes feel like a "buzz" (no pun intended) word when in another country.

I do watch my Lester on YouTube once in a while Buzz - thank you.

But with streaming, I am never flipping around of course so I just naturally watch less news.

LOL, not on the train, but my wife's complaint about all our trips to Canada is never seeing a moose. My Aunt and Uncle had a "cabin" at Candle Lake and it was crawling with bears, but the moose all hide when we are there. A couple of my cousins have totaled cars hitting moose.

Sometimes I think CTV News is better tbh. ABC does national news better than NBC in my opinion but Canadian news stations seem to have less bias on American topics. I wonder if the reporting style is just different here.

No long gone as it was the actual factory, not a store.
Two pubs were in the building SirDuff. Firkin was the main one, but I believe it is gone. At the turn off for SPIN. South side of King, west of Spadina, just before

I knew you & I lived in the same neighbourhood. And thought it was funny that we could have easily been passing each other.

Hi Annette @ronandannette, hope you're doing well. Must have been blast from the past day as I was looking up Salada tea & Gumby, in no particular order. Laughing..

Someone gave me a tiny figurine for my birthday & I realized yesterday that it reminded me of the Salada tea ones. That started the deep dive!
My aunt used to save all our her figurines from the box for me. I had quite the collection!!

I just absolutely loathe the reply “uh huh” to thank you. Your welcome is just as easy to say, and much more polite. It grinds my gears.
We (in the North) say "uh huh" mostly as slang for understood, like Spanish speakers say claro.

Just curious, and I'm sure Canadians will tell me no but has Canadian news/media mentioned the CSA (Canadian Soccer Association) at all lately? This has been an interesting week for your national team, so it would surprise me if it was not on the news/sports radio at all.
