Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

There was that moose on the loose INSIDE of the school in Saskatoon (Saskatchewan) as well.
;) Sorry, but until I hear it directly from TV Guy's Saskatchewan cousins, I'm gonna have to call this fake news. :rotfl2:

At the risk of having these incidents become a broad generalization of "life in Canada" (it's not, Buzz, it's really not), this is one of my all-time favorite videos :lovestruc (it took place in BC)

Interestingly enough, I had a conversation just last week with my 16 y/o son after his school was evacuated for an hour because of a gas leak. I asked him about lockdowns and drills and he said that his schools had done fire drills, earthquake drills, wildlife drills and actual wildlife lockdowns, but in 12 years of school (k-11) he has never done an active shooter drill.

I was not surprised at all the drills they have done (we even have a day here in BC called The Great BC ShakeOut, where everyone is supposed to do an earthquake drill. Not just schools but everyone!) but I was a little surprised they had never done an active shooter drill. Pleasantly surprised but surprised nonetheless.

I have no idea, but I doubt it. As a Manitoban, we are born with an instant dislike of all things Saskatchewan. Our Blue Bombers (CFL team) have an intense rivalry with the Roughriders. The Banjo Bowl is epic and has huge, HUGE bragging rights attached.

Their population is only around 275,000 so I’m not sure they have the population to support many teams. There may be some minor league hockey teams, but I have no idea.
So they would be Valour FC’s (CPL team) true rival then since they are based in Winnipeg? Good to know.
Just an FYI, your local pro team has a cool origin story and crest. Winnipeg seems to have a cool history and is a interesting place.

Just thought you might find some info on your local team history (not meant as trying to be an annoying soccer fan) interesting in general.

How is everyone’s day going?
Melting. I am melting. It felt like 105.8° today and as a teacher, our schools are not air conditioned. There’s a few rooms that are and I lucked into supporting students during the period their teacher took her class to one to enjoy popsicles. So yummo, I had a peach popsicle. But it’s seriously gross when it’s that hot. Blech.

You can watch the FIFA World Cup cities announcement on TSN. It might make you feel better in this heat.

It’s crazy hot here today all humidity ☹️.. 82°F feeling like 99.5°F 🫠
So.. I’ve hidden out in the A/C and watched the FIFA/26 announcements

Toronto will be electric in 2026. We are a true sports town .. if in doubt watch a few videos of our 2019 Raptors victory parade…

If you have never experienced a World Cup in person, it is a life changing experience.

I’m looking forward to the energy and electricity the World Cup will bring to our city. We have other sporting events like the Honda Indy, the Canadian Open tennis and golf championships that bring the city to life.
We have a very culturally diverse population here, many who are from Europe , the UK and the Middle East, soccer is huge within those groups and for any given match… the corresponding cafes, pubs, and other watering holes are packed and patios are set up for the overflow crowds. I know the World Cup will be huge here!

My suggestion is to get a team Canada jersey this year before they go up in price in 2026.

My youngest brother got married today so it was a pretty, pretty good day. Very hot and humid but we were mostly in the A/C.
Congratulations to him. Are you happy about the WC 2026 news? It’s hot in the Northeast this week as well.

It must be a fun atmosphere right now.

Yes, the wedding was a lot of fun.

(I’m purposely ignoring the topic you keep referring to. My brain is on vacation mode).

We are going to brunch tomorrow, then we have a day and a half to ourselves, then we go home Sunday morning. It’s going to be about 37C when we get home.
