Here's the mad world lyrics -- in case you aren't familiar.. it isn't a really happy song.

Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... mad world

I'm surprised at the bottom spot on DialIdol. :sad2: Though it wasn't the best performance from this contestant, I hope they stick around a while longer.

ADAM WAS FANTASTIC! Don't really remember the song (and I was in high school in '82), but it really showed how awesome his voice is. Thank God it is up on YouTube this morning, I was seething last night when my DVR cut it off!

Mad World wasn't really a big US single. I recognized it, but I was more of the 120 minutes crowd than the usual US music crowd.

Going out on a limb here: Adam will win American Idol. I don't even see how it would be possible for anyone to come even close. Just waay too much versatility in his voice-he can do anything with it.

i WILL eat my shorts if Adam doesn't win!

I feel the exact same way that Adam will be the next American Idol.
BUt,I must admit, that I had never heard of the song he sang last night:confused3

Really? I am just so suprised of all the people that hadn't heard of this song before.

Tears for Fears had a HUGE presence in the 80's. Now if you weren't alive then, I'm feeling really old. I know some areas didn't really embrace Brit pop like others (for example I was the only person/teen in my small country rural town that liked something other than country/southern rock) -- Not to be stereotypical, but that is what it was!

Tears for Fears also did that awful song "Sowing the Seeds of Love" which I think was released in 1990, IIRC. I have that CD somewhere in the house.

I had no idea it was in Donnie Darko. I've never seen that movie, but it sounds like something I would like (strange, dark and quirky). Donnie Darko was released in 2002, 20 years after original release.

I am 44 yrs old, so I am not young;). I do know Tears for Fears, and no some of their other songs, but had not heard of the song Adam sang last night.
I love Adam, so I enjoy listening to anything he sings:thumbsup2

Last nights show was over all boring, but Adam was AWESOME!
We love Allison though and voted for her! She reminds me of Rachel Ray. Not personality wise, but in her face and her gravely voice.

Danny Gokey was my favorite early on, but he has been bland the past couple of weeks. Hopefully he will kick it up next week and get back into the game.

Kris is really good usually, but last night he was a little boring.

I think Scott,Lil and Anoop should be the next three going home. Not sure what order though.

Being the 80s music geek that I am, The Hurting (Tears for Fears album where Mad World is released) only went up to 74 in the US charts. So I guess with us having that album downstairs, we are one of the few. Who knew? My DH is just a bit older than you and was a big Brit pop/dance fan so he knew them as well.

Songs from the Big Chair was HUGE! Shout, Everybody want to rule... and other songs were big--so I guess most would know two or three songs.

I actually like the Hurting more than the others. I guess I'm going to have to see if the old turntable works so I can pull it out and play it.

I love Adam's taste so far... If he can pull out some Smiths, old Cure, Love and Rockets, Echo and the Bunnymen ,or even some Midnight Oil (NOT BEDS ARE BURNING) he would just go up so much in my book. His high hair look is a cross of Robert Smith and the dude from Echo and the Bunnymen.

My niece introduced me to Tears for Fears when she was a teenager and I was a disco dancing diva in the 80s. I fell in LOVE with them! They're all over my ipod! But I've never heard that song... :confused3

Of course I YouTubed it and it's mesmerizing and gorgeous. There was already remarks about Adam's version, of course, some liked it and some didn't.

I LOVED it! :thumbsup2

Dialidol is interesting this morning. I'm more than POSITIVE they will not get rid of the very last person on the list and think Scott will be going home tonight. I was sure Lil would be in the bottom and should be.

I have always thought of myself as a connoisseur of music, loving and listening to everything from classical, pop, rock, Rocky Horror and country western (to name a few genres ;) ) but I honestly never heard of the song that Adam sang last night. I'm thinking what the heck was I listening to in '82!!! :teeth:

However, never having heard the song doesn't take away my appreciation on how well Adam sang it. My opinion, tho, Simon should have given Adam a standing ovation for Tracks of My Tears.

I agree. Very boring. Wasn't impressed by anyone except Allison and Adam. Not getting Lil. The others to me sound just like everyone else out there. How about getting some new sounds out there over the airwaves!

Allison reminds me of a troll doll. I don't mean it in a mean way but it's just what her feature remind me of. :confused3

I love Tears for Fears and LOVE that song. I thought Adam did a great job with it. His vocals are so strong and you can actually hear every word - unlike the original version.

It is a haunting song and Adam seemed to really connect with the words. The song and the video of his childhood really struck me as being rather sad.

This was the baby picture they showed of her last night:

Rocky Horror--that's great.:) I met my husband while we were performing at Rocky Horror! Now Rocky Horror night could be a really funny AI theme-- like that is ever going to happen  Adam could pull off Tim Curry or the MeatLoaf song easily.

I remeber in 82 (I was 11 or 12 depending on time of year) I was listening to Oingo Boingo, Haircut 100, Adam Ant, The Cure, etc... which was a little strange back then.

Alison is an interesting person. Her family seemed really interesting. I must say it probably is a lot of maintenance to keep her hair color that vibrant.

I am a huge Tears for Fears fan and I thought that performance was fantastic.
The singing was similar though better in parts(IMO) to the original.
The arrangment was great. He must work so hard with the band, cause he get them to sound perfect and unique.
Other performers do not get as much out of the arrangements.

I agree. Not sure who would be getting all the text votes that seem to sometimes make the difference. If he is last, I think he will be saved and no one will be going home this week.

Then next week they'll have the same problem with going 10 minutes overtime.
