I agree with some others that there just wasn't much to get excited about last night.

Anoop -- eh. The song wasn't familiar. I don't know what it is with this guy. He has a good voice. And he does have some stage presence. But something about him just doesn't click with me.

Megan -- so awful there are hardly the words. I hope Simon realizes what a HUGE mistake he and the rest of the judges made by pushing this chick on us. She was a wild card right?? Her voice is so awful. Someone said it was monotone and they were right. She looked ridiculous. She sounded worse. PLEASE let Dialidol be right tonight and she's gone.

Danny -- I hated the song. The beginning was ok but the end sounded like every other song he has done so far. I was just waiting for it to end. Like usual.

Alison - I agree she slipped a bit. I thought she'd sound better than Gwen (which wouldn't be hard to do!) and do the song justice, but it was not great. If Dialidol is correct, she is in trouble. She was no where bad enough to be near the bottom. She clearly doesn't have a strong fan base.

Scott -- I really liked this. His voice is thinner than my other two favorites but I still like the guy. His weeks are numbered though.

Lil -- Hated the hair. She looked like Gail King! That song should be right up her alley but I thought she sounded awful and her HUGE mouth was distracting. The judges ripped into her -- as they should have. But they can never just say 'you suck' they have to qualify it by saying she is still fabulous and has a great voice blah blah blah. They don't do that to anyone else. And this time they trot out her KIDS too. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine on the show. Hated when Gracin had his kids on and Fantasia and now Lil. We KNOW she has kids. Interviewing them and then having one hug 'Uncle Randy' was such an obvious ploy for sympathy. I am done with this chick. Dialidol has her up pretty high. WHO is voting for her????

Matt -- I really liked this. I love The Fray and I thought he did well with it. I would much rather have listened to that than anything else I had heard up until that point. Yet they ripped him to shreds. :confused3 Poor guy doesn't WANT to be pigeonholed into one genre. I agree Coldplay was a mistake. But I don't think this was at all.

Adam - sigh. I don't GET this guy and never will. His performance was chringe-worthy. The twirl? The hip movements (that were mostly just out of camera range). The screeching was back. It sounded like the band drowned him out more often than not. (I guess I should be grateful :lmao: )Who said he had Eddie Muster hair? PERFECT description. I like that his hair is out of his face but it is too POOFY on top. And the amount of gunk to hold it is place just makes me :scared: I keep thinking of the oil slick he'd leave on a pillow or seat back somewhere. Yuk.

Kris -- just perfect. Great song. Great voice. And he is adorable. LOVE the stubble (such that it is!) If not for that pesky wife of his, I would have developed a crush by now. But she kind of ruins it for me.

I cannot WAIT for DC tonight!!!  The kids have an open house at school and I have to make sure I am back in time. I hope HE is there though and not just the video clip they mentioned. Didn't someone post that he canceled some tour dates for some family reasons?

His appearance was pretaped a couple weeks ago. :)

I'm really excited to see his video and performance too. I love him. :lovestruc

I knew her age but she comes across like a 40yo mature woman. I guess being married with 3 children AGES you... :scared:

On the other hand Allison comes across like a 40yo former alcoholic.. :confused3

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Both have done well on Broadway, but all I hear about on the DIS is Clay!

I never hear Fantasia anymore. She used to be on the R&B stations here but she's not around at all anymore, at least around here. As much as I couldn't stand her on AI, she was AWESOME in The Color Purple. She's actually a really good actress! Ruben... not so much

You know who else was awesome on Broadway (besides Clay ;))? Tamyra Gray! I didn't liker her at all on AI (I was too big of a Kelly fan... I also loved Justin, Christina, Jim, EJ... basically everyone but her) but I saw her in Rent and Bombay Dreams and she was AMAZING!!!!!! Bombay Dreams was afew years ago but I went back to see Rent before it closed last spring when she played Mimi and she was so ridiculously good. She's got an amazing voice and awesome stage presence. Love her!

I kind of hope Adam goes the Broadway route (whether he claims he wants to or not) just so I can go see him whenever I want :lmao:

You may hate this album from David Cook but I'll guarantee you that he'll be putting another one out. Without the win, it is doubtful that he would get a second chance. How is it going for Jason? We all said he'd be better off without the win too.

I agree. You rarely hear anything from the non winners (except Daughtry and Clay). I know that the first albums from the winners tend to not be the best but I actually love David's album (even if some parts of it are cheesy lyrics-wise). I also thought Carrie Underwood put out a solid first album.

You sacrifice artistry when you win the show but when you get the sales from the first album then you can get a bit more control over your music and what you put on your albums.

Fantasia had a BAD year, her home went into foreclosure and there was a story that Simon bailed her out. Not sure if that's true but the spin says so.

Other than than her Wiki page sums up her Post Idol info -- I'm SURE none of this would've happened minus Idol:

2008–present: New album and new film
Fantasia received three Grammy nominations for her sophomore release, Fantasia and is currently in the studio working on her third album to be released early 2009. She stated on the red carpet of the 2008 Grammy Awards that the style of her new album will be a blending of the avenues she has touched musically, which include American Idol and Broadway. She also revealed that she will be writing songs and will collaborate again with Missy Elliott, The Underdogs, and Midi Mafia, who produced one of her biggest hits, "When I See U".

Fantasia was cast by Oprah Winfrey as Celie in the film adaptation of The Color Purple musical, which is to begin production after the release of her third album.[19]

It was recently confirmed that Midi Mafia will be producing majority of Fantasia's next album.[20] Also, hip hop duo Rock City has been confirmed to be writing on the new project. So far, they have recorded four tracks together. She will also work with KP, R. Kelly, T-Pain, Babyface, and Ne-Yo.[21] She also recorded songs produced by Eric Hudson and Raphael Saadiq. "Him Vs. Them" is the first single from her untitled third album. The song was written by Tank, co-written by Barrino herself and produced by Midi Mafia, also the producers behind her previous hit "When I See You". Fantasia describes this as a future ladies anthem, "It's basically about making choices in a relationship, choosing between your man, which is him, and your friends which is them. Them coming back to you telling you stories about him cheating and he's telling you another saying he's not. A very real subject that happens in every day relationships, I just put it in a song and made it more real". The song will be released during April 2009.

On June 26, 2008, Entertainment Weekly reported that Fantasia was dropped from 19 Entertainment because of creative differences; she will remain with 19 Recordings and J Records. She also revealed that after the release of her third album, she plans to release a gospel album.[22]

Fantasia performed at the Tribute to Patti Labelle in Los Angeles, which was televised on January 24, 2009. She performed with her mother, Diane Barrino, in a Thanksgiving special on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel.

Fantasia appeared on Jennifer Hudson's self-titled album, on the song "I'm His Only Woman", which was nominated for a 2009 Grammy.

Yeah, really! Those are two untouchables in rock history. Adam is good, but I don't think he's THAT good. And yes, I'm not an Adam fan but I do think he has talent.

:lmao: I just noticed the Tag Fairy made a visit to our thread last night. You got a mullet tag!

Interesting thing about dialidol. The results after about 15 minutes of voting are very, very close to the final results. The positions may jockey by a place or two but not much.

I always check right away and it is a very good indication of their final results. Not always the same as on the show, of course, but generally the same early as later.

That I didn't know.

Side Note: Since I recorded Idol, I also had the Osbournes thing recorded after. Seriously, after 5 minutes, there was enough bleeping that I was utterly shocked it was on network tv. Fingers crossed the show'll tank.

Our FOX station shoved it to midnight. Perhaps for that very same reason.

Songs from the year they were born? So they are back to doing old songs. Most are in their 20's. I don't know how many songs I'll know from that time frame, I was getting married and having babies during a lot of that time span, not a lot of radio playing going on.

A lot of them born in 1985. I hope someone does something from Tears for Fears.

1982 will go down as my favorite year for music ever. I have a playlist in my iTunes of nearly 80 songs from just that year. I was so excited when they did this theme last year and I saw that DC was born that year but then he ended up doing Billie Jean. And although it was FAR better than I ever thought it could be, I associate that song with 1983.

Now I see ADAM was born in 1982 as well. :scared1: We know 'Hungry Like the Wolf' and 'Tainted Love' already have clearance on the show. I hope he stays far away from both.

I could see him attempting "Everybody Wants You" from Billy Squier or maybe "Play the Game Tonight" from Kansas. I guess we'll see.

Is Hot Blooded by Foreigner 1982? I seem to think it may be. I can see Adam trying Hungry Like the Wolf though.

I think 1985 is a great year for music. However it also did the dreck song We are the World (group song anyone?)

Like A Virgin, Careless Whisper, View to a Kill, Sussudio, Everybody wants to Rule the World, Take on Me, Heaven, Crazy for You and the standard American Idol Saving all my Love for you...

Having some trouble staying awake last night, so I may have been dreaming this. But please dear God tell me that Paula did not compare Adam to Steven Tyler out loud. Does she even know who he is? She IS on drugs.

quickly editing to add...I like Adam okay but come ON.

It wasn't the first time. And there is NO comparison on this planet. Or any other planet, no matter HOW many astronomers keep discovering out there....

Pretty sure Hot Blooded is from before that...I remember going to see Foreigner while still in High School...in 82 I was in University.

About Adam...could you really stand to listen to a whole CD of him shrieking like a banshee? :headache:

He is the Taylor Hicks of this years competition...entertaining...yes....:dancer:

able to translate that into records (I'm dating myself...cd's or downloads) that will sell...nope.:sad2:

He doesn't always shriek like a banshee, but many singers who did sold lots of records (Axl Rose, 80's hair bands, Steven Tyler.) While Adam may not be your thing, he is very relevant to today's music especially compared to Scott or even Danny (who I think is also talented, just not as good performance wise.)

Hey, Eye of the Tiger- Survivor was 1982 (courtesy Guitar Hero)

Another big Survivor song "The Search is Over" was 1985/86

I loved music from 1985/86! It is one of my favorite music years. That is the year Madonna broke out, Cyndi Lauper was unusual (to be fair that was released in 1984), and the Eurhythmics called "Would I lie to You?"...

Let's not forget Tina Turner: Private Dancer! That is one of the greatest albums. (although I think the release date might be 1984).

Janet Jackson Control came out around that time lately.. was that 86 though? Nasty and What have you done for me lately kicked BUTT!

Funny every year I hear this Whatever happened to Ruben and Fantasia thing and I go :rolleyes1

I listen to R&B and Gospel stations and I hear them ALL THE TIME. I only hear Daughtry, Carrie and David Cook on AI but I never ask "whatever happened to them?" Maybe it's because I'm not in their demographic????

Ruben is a gospel SUPERSTAR and Fantasia sings only R&B. I don't expect people who don't listen to that kind of music on the regular to know much about them. Both have done well on Broadway, but all I hear about on the DIS is Clay!

I know the deal here, I just go... :rolleyes1

I know that you tell us every year how popular they are. I was going to put in my post that Robin says they have done really well but figured you would add that in. Thank you!!! I don't think Clay ending up having the same success as Ruben.

Maybe I'm thinking of Urgent?

And I think his next one will be better, hopefully more like what his pre-Idol stuff was. He put out his "Magic Rainbow" stuff for 19E, now hopefully he'll put out stuff for his fans.
