We hear the judges say all of the time to make the song their own and let us know what kind of an artist they will be. To me, Adam is not doing that. He's changing the song but that's about it. Does anyone think that Adam would ever perform a song like last night or even dress like that when he's in concert?

Compare him to Daughtry or DC. To me, they stayed true to who they are. They didn't change their look or act to fit the song/theme but they adapted the song to be their style instead.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Adam is very talented but his performances haven't told me what type of artist he is.

It told me he is a versatile amazing performer, that's good enough for me.

Elton John and Madonna are examples of performers who change their way of doing music constantly. The difference between Bennie and the Jets and Blue Eyes comes to mind. Versatile and able to show other sides of their talent. It's a good thing.

You said in the first line that Adam's changing the songs up and that's exactly what he's doing - he changes the songs to fit his style. His country week performance wasn't exactly changing his style and act to fit the "country" theme  As much as I loved DC (and hated Chris) I think Adam's natural talent is far and away better than either of theirs. Even last night - no, he didn't glam it up and rock it out, but if that wasn't a diva version of the song I don't know what is! As much as I'd love for him to go out there covered in glitter (seriously, I would ), that's not all he's about. Half the pictures of him out there performing all done up were for shows he was in. There are also a lot of pictures of him performing with his band looking exactly how he does now. And with all the closed-minded people out there (have you seen that completely ridiculous "The Storm is Coming" campaign going around :rolleyes::rolleyes:) he wouldn't make it as far as he has in some of those get-ups. Sad by true. He's being smart while still being true to who he is. Not once has he gone out there and sang a song that didn't reflect who he is, and that's why I think he's awesome :thumbsup2

That's very interesting. I think Adam is showing us exactly who he is and has changed every song to suit his sound and personality. We've heard many of his youtube performances that are very similar to what he has been doing on the show. Some of the venues allowed/expected him to be a little more risque than this family show allows but since his concerts are going to be filled with all ages, I think we will see pretty much what we are seeing now. Adam has repeatedly said that his album will be filled with a huge variety of styles and sounds.

Most true artist change something about their art. And they will tell you that they want to evolve with their art.

I guess that's my problem. I have no idea what his style is. Is it rock, is it ballads, is it disco...?

I agree that he's very talented. To me, it just seems a bit like a theatrical performance.

There are also a lot of pictures of him performing with his band looking exactly how he does now.

How does he look? Every week he seems to have a different look.( I was thinking the same thing about Lil last night.) I haven't seen any pictures of him before Idol with his hair slicked back but I may have missed them.

I hope that you don't think that I'm being closed minded. I haven't seen or heard of the campaign.

I think that he's got a lot of talent and I'm sure that he'll get a deal but I guess that so far, I'm not as overwhelmed with him like some people are.

If you asked every single person on here, each one will be totally underwhelmed about someone that others think is great.

For me it was Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Michael Johns and this year, Danny. However, the people I really liked, take Jason Castro for example, other people didn't like. That's just the way it goes.

Exactly, different strokes, etc... Golleee, I deSPISE Daughtry AND Carrie, I could care less who else liked them. It goes by taste, no one is right or wrong, just what they prefer. And the only opinion that matters is the person in the mirror so all the "am I the only one" and "I don't get it" posts are MOOT.

Come on I LOVE chocolate ice cream but would it matter to me if no one else did?????? NO!

No, I didn't mean you at all! Or anyone specifically. I'm just saying that while he did glam it up for a lot of his pre-idol performances, that's not the defining factor of who he is. There are also videos and pictures of him out there looking exactly how he does now. And if he did come out really glam, which I'd love!, there are people who would be in a uproar over it, even though being glam has nothing to do with being gay in all reality.

I don't think he has a completely different look every week... sometimes his hair's back and sometimes it's down :confused3 Every performer out there who wants to be entertaining changes it up all the time. I don't see anything drastic - he didn't look like a rock star the first week and a cowboy country week

He's definitely theatrical, too, but I love that. I'm a huge fan of Broadway and the theater to begin with, but I also love glam rock and performers who really put on shows. Queen's one of the greatest bands of all time, and The Killers are also one of my all-time favorites, and they both put on awesome, theatrical shows. Elton John and Cher are my number 1 favorite entertainers ever, and you can't beat their shows! Then there's The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Kiss, Twisted Sister, The Scissor Sisters, Mika, The Darkness... they all put on awesome, over-the-top, theatrical shows and are so entertaining. I love bands like that, and there's a huge fan base for those kinds of performers. It's something most people are into or they're not though, there's not much middle ground. If it's not you're thing it's just not you're thing :thumbsup2

My take on last night

1)Kris--OMG! I loved this!! Was not expecting it at all and it blew me away!

2)Anoop--I think he finally found his right spot-not to low and not to high

3)Danny--#3 and #4 were a toss up for me--I knew what Danny had but wanted more from Adam

4)Adam--Wish he had picked a flow and gone with it--was high, low, inbetween, screaming...Thank God I don't have ADD or I wouldn'tve been able to follow along

5)Matt--Not sure it was worth the save but he did prove he belonged there in front of others

6)Allison--The beginning was horrible. When it picked up it was better but still very rough

7)Lil--:scared:

In Adam's defense, his training has been on stage, and when you perform on stage, you have to be seen in the back of the house. When you perform on televison, the camera picks up every subtle movement and you don't need to be as demonstrative. Adam needs to remember to reign himself in because on TV he comes across too strong. It might be different when he's back on stage in an arena where he would need to proejct.

Personally, I don't mind. I think he's an awesome performer. I like Adult Contemporary music, so he certainly isn't my usual taste.

I say it is the last week for Lil and Anoop and it is about time.

I thought I was going to actually like Adam for the first time and then he screached like he does in every other song and he lost me again.

Wow, sounds like you've had some stage training!

This is why I cannot stand watching the Tony Awards, the camera picks up way too much!

I was trained to emote the clock in the back of the theatre, I still think I'm supposed to talk like that.... I have to remind myself to use my "indoor voice"... :lmao:

I've never been on stage, but I've met a lot of actors on Broadway. (Which reminds me, I need to see a musical soon!)

The Tony Awards are a perfect example!

You're originally from Brooklyn?? You guys don't have inside voices!!

Yeah my Aunt sent me a text telling me Lil is on top. It's got to be wrong.

Talk about SEPARATED AT BIRTH: Lynn's DH and Danny Gokey remind me of each other!
