American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

Some of the continued comments about Adam have really taken on a malevolent quality. If anyone says anything good about him, it is an off with his head mentality that is really unproductive. If you don't like him, fine, but don't try to make the people that do feel like they are bad people because of it. Adam fans may have expressed their dislike of Danny strongly, but IMHO Danny fans have become pretty nasty in their expression of dislike for Adam. I haven't seen a thread titled is there anyone not really loving Danny (as there is for Adam).

Exactly! It's a TV show and people are taking it way too seriously. I haven't been on the boards in weeks, so I was surprised to come back and see the turn the thread had taken. I keep coming back because I'm fascinated by the hate people can have for a reality show contestant who's been nothing but a nice guy with a great voice :confused3 If you don't like his voice then that's fine, don't vote. But all the "Danny's gone, now vote for Kris because he's active in his church like Danny, and a small town boy like Danny, and Adam sucks and his fans are just so mean and we can't let this happen!" posts are hilarious. The fact that people would spend their time voting for someone they don't even like just to keep someone else from winning is very funny. That's the definition of catty in and of itself, but whatever. The extreme bitterness over a reality show is fascinating to me... American Idol knows how to lure people in and never let them go! But the fact that you can't say anything good about Adam without ten people jumping down your throat and saying they now feel like their freedom of speech has been stripped and they're afraid to voice their hatred of Adam... are you kidding?

Like I've said, I like both finalists. However, Kris is just a typical singer/songwriter with a nice but nasal voice, whereas Adam's the total package with an outstanding voice, stage presence and appeal. When the ITunes numbers were released a few weeks ago Adam had 7 of the 10 top spots, and was #1 on the Top 40 charts, beating established artists. Kris is good, but his down-home, singer/songwriter sound is already overdone. He doesn't compare to Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw or Eric Hutchinson, and the sound is very American. Like Simon said, Adam has more worldwide appeal. He has a ton of fans around the world, and an interesting sound that's appreciated everywhere. While his glamour rock/power pop sound is big now, there's no one out there just like him so he could do something unique and pave his own way, which is what separates singers and STARS. They'll obviously both get recording contracts regardless of who wins (and Kris very well might with all the anti-Adam backlash), but I know better than to flip out over a reality show. Regardless of who wins, I honestly believe Adam will be far bigger here in the US and around the world than Kris (again, look at the ITunes numbers). It'll be interesting to see what happens.

People did the same thing last year with David Cook. The AI thread was heavily in favor of DC and the people who didn't like him started a "Who doesn't like David Cook" or the like type of thread. Then a "We love David Cook" thread was started to take a bit of the David Cook love off the main AI thread (just a little though, because he got a lot of love )

The more one set of fans defends their side, the more the other side feels they need to defend theirs. But the funny thing is, there is no need for sides or insulting or "mine is better than yours, nahnny nahnny boo boo" or "yours stinks because of x, y, and z" or "how on earth can you like X when Y is clearly so much better, you must know nothing about music". It's making the show less fun, this thread less fun, and putting us at risk of ending up like the politics and religion topics... banned.

Why do you assume that if someone was previously a Danny voter, the main reason they would now switch their final week's vote to Kris would be to vote "against" Adam? Or that they'd do it because they're both small town boys who go to church? (I've never thought of Milwaukee as "small town." Over 600,000 inhabitants isn't "small" to me.) How about this.....It's even more plausible that they might vote for Kris because if you happened to like Danny's voice, there's a good chance you might like Kris's voice better than Adam's and thus, switch your final vote to Kris rather than Adam. It's just that simple. I can see Allison voters switching to Adam instead of switching to Kris or Danny. It's just not that hard of a concept to grasp. I believe you continue to demonstrate a lack of respect for Kris's ability and appeal, but I don't call you a "hater." :rolleyes1

You say Adam is the total package with an outstanding voice, stage presence and appeal, but Kris is merely a typical singer/songwriter with a nice, but nasal voice. Just can't pass up an insult to Kris on your way to an Adam compliment... Here is what you fail to grasp. The "total package" you speak of is completely UNappealing to many of us. It is entirely TOO packaged, too rehearsed, too preplanned, too lacking in any spontaneity. The personality you see, we don't. We see a persona and there is a difference. With a persona, the personality is hidden. The outstanding voice that your ears hear is physically painful to many and just plain sounds terrible to others. Call it a "rock wail", call it the sounds of screaming mee-mees, call it whatever.....We hear screeching and it's unpleasant. And there's too much of it. I'm not saying he CAN'T sing. Tracks of MY Tears was lovely. But 90% of what Adam does is OVERDONE and that is a turnoff to a lot of people. I flat out don't like his tone when he goes for the higher notes. Simple as that.

You can dislike a singer's performance and not "hate" the performer. He seems like a nice enough person when he's not singing. I might love a singer's voice, yet find that same singer a useless human being. I can even wrap my brain around the concept that I can find a certain voice heavenly to listen to, while the person next to me might find it godawful. And that would not make them ignorant, haters or hicks. It would simply make them someone who did not share my taste in music.

And it really seems you do not find all this "hilarious" at all. You appear to be very bothered by it.

Round One - The Contestant’s Favorites - Favorite song from the season is how Ryan described it.

Round Two - Simon Fuller’s Pick

Round Three - The Winner’s Single - There is only one Coronation song this year

Thank you, sounds like they are sticking to the format they have used in the past. Now I'm going to wonder what songs they will sing for their choice.

Tatania, I'm probably going to Boma next weekend. We're staying at AKV and have breakfast scheduled for Sunday morning at Boma's. Just PM me closer to next weekend because I tend to forget things when I'm preparing for Disney. Now that I know about that thread though, I'm in trouble. I made Le Cellier's soup once and now my family wants more Disney food at home.

I might be in trouble too...I'm don't know if I will check that thread out or not.

:lmao: Wow, now you seem to be obsessed with me... wherever I go your quoting follows  This entire time, on this thread and the other, I've continuously said I wasn't talking to you. People on here have said they were now voting for Kris just so Adam doesn't win and yes, I find it funny. Again, I DON'T CARE who you or anyone else likes or doesn't like. I DON'T CARE about insulting Kris. I don't need to respect either of them... I don't even know them! Are you really offended by my saying Kris is a typical singer/songwriter and he has a nasal voice? It's not even an insult... I've said time and time again that I like him, but no, he's nothing special. I didn't berate the guy endlessly on every AI-related thread out there. What YOU fail to grasp is that there's a difference between stating an opinion and being malicious. It's a TV show... if you feel your time is best spent obsessing over the fact that some stranger other than myself jokingly said the word "hater," then have at it. In my OPINION Adam will do far and away better than Kris out in the real world, based on worldwide appeal and ITunes sales. If you think Kris will do better then again... I DON'T CARE!

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, and stating them is the point of the thread. It's when the hate feeds on hate when things get out of hand - when it becomes a contest over who can hate someone more and express it more obsessively. For a while this thread got malicious against both Adam and his fans. I DON'T CARE who doesn't like Adam, but when the thread starts turning malicious it sucks the fun out of it. I never understood why anyone would create a "We hate ____" thread, website, campaign, etc about anything. If you don't like something, why spend your time on it? If you don't like Adam, change the channel when he sings, don't vote for him, and don't listen to his post-Idol music. You've stated more times than I can count all the ways you hate the guy, how he's fake, how you can't stand his screeching, how he's ugly, how he's too showy, and on and on and on. WE GET IT. Are you that consumed with the show that you feel the need to berate the rest of the boards about it over and over and over?? It's that negativity that consumes people, as we've seen here. If personally attacking every post I make is your personal goal this weekend, really, have at it. I can guarantee you I'll find it HILARIOUS (). As for me, I have better things to do and I'm going out for the day. Try to get by without my posts ;)

I know it doesn't matter because we'll never know, but I would be curious to see what this thread would be like if Adam HAD been voted off. I find it funny how all of these Adam fans are blaming all the "cattiness" on Danny fans (atleast that's what it sounds like to me...) when week after week after week people were constantly bashing Danny: all he does is talk about his wife, he's so arrogant, he's so boring, he's got no fans, etc. Oh yes, and how if Adam doesn't win it would be a sin. I have a feeling the thread would be a lot worse if Adam were voted off. But, like I said, it really doesn't matter since that didn't happen. Just wanted to get that out there...

I remember those Danny threads and though they somewhat upset me I understood where they were coming from. Heck, even EW's Kristen made it her personal vendetta to vilify Danny. I cannot speak for anyone but I've never been the type to get mad when my fave was voted off, SAD but not mad. When Michael Johns was voted off it broke my heart, but HEY, he's better off than he was before he was on the show, every single one of them are.

I don't care for Kris but I would NEVER start a thread on "not loving him". It's unnecessary. Neither would I do it for any contestant. The tone of a thread is based on the people on it. Never, not once, has everyone on a AI thread been in total agreement and I've been on them since Ruben's year.. but it was done without the underlying venom I've seen recently.

It's a TV show, people... :yay:

That's pretty much how it was last year..I was basically the only DA fan and everybody was bashing him. I guess it's only fun when everybody is doing it to one person and you're not getting it back..

Tigg I. Remember that and I'm proud of you standing up for the artist you like. I love kris and I'll keep voting for him

We did ak crowds aren't bad at all

There is nothing wrong with bashing a contestant and the banter that goes with it. When the posts start to question the mentality and taste of the supporters then it crosses the line. The "I don't know how anyone with any taste could possibly like so and so" posts are what gets the thread closed.

I think this thread has stayed quite civil when some of the contestants have been quite polarizing.

I don't think the word "hater" is quite as evil as some make it out to be. It seems to be thrown around so much these days and I think it only now means someone who doesn't want someone else to do well. At least that is the impression I get.

:thumbsup2

And that's how it's been for anyone who didn't fully support Adam and the point I was trying to make.

There were 2 Danny fans who were truly upset by his being voted off and said that they were now going to support Kris however the denigrating of non-Adam supporters started prior to that.

Something funny to point out is that the Adam thread was started by someone who never visited this thread and had no knowledge of what was going down inside of it and more than quite a few of the posters on that thread hadn't been here either.

Everyone keeps saying that the fans of every other contestant besides Adam are the ones who are the trouble makers whereas the fans of every other contestant say that the trouble makers are the Adam fans.

Also I'd like to point out that even the non-Adam fans on this thread have said (repeatedly I might add) that they think Adam can sing but don't like the screeching but yet that hasn't stopped his supporters from calling them names.

He's a contestant on a tv show, you'll never meet him,he won't thank you personally for defending him so can we just lighten up already?!? Can we make this thread one where fans of all the contestants can go to discuss the topic?

ETA: The writer of the post that I quoted added the last paragraph after I had already quoted it---But I do want to comment on it....There should be no name calling at all, ever. Regardless if someone thinks it's harmless or not. Because as you can see from this thread alone it leads to other names such as catty, low, ignorant etc. There are ways to convey your feelings without it and it doesn't bolster what you have to say in any way and the only purpose it serves is to put down the people you're not in agreement with.

Entertaining reading for the weekend for sure. Also reconfirms my decision to step out of this thread.

I was not a DA fan last season. However I don't recall anyone being anything other then respectful to you. It's unfortunate that you feel like you were the "one person" getting it.

And with that I'm outta here....for good this time.:sad2:

I'm sorry you are leaving. I didn't say they they weren't nice to me. They were very nice to me. Just not nice to David.

That's right, just a TV show. Unless you know the contestants personally what happens to them really isn't going to affect any of us.

No it is not fun when someone is being bashed. I liked DA too but D was my top choice. I think DA is kinda cute and has a really nice voice.

What she said.

Article from masterclass lady about last week's three performances is up. Again it is a very interesting read.

http://masterclasslady.com/2009/05/...ass-article-judges-choice-and-singers-choice/

Does this masterclass lady work with them or does she just write a critique based on watching the TV show. She is interesting to read..and she really trashed the back ground singers during Adams song. Did he really take the ear things out? I missed it because I tend not to watch the performances all that close.

She is a music teacher. She's been doing Idol commentaries for as long as I can remember and really takes a technical viewpoint to each performance. She notices things that we wouldn't. I wasn't crazy about Adam's performance of Cryin'. I guess maybe he had somewhat of a valid excuse.

I'm not sure about the earpiece thing. I know they don't usually wear them and wonder why they wore them this week.

Someone asked about the fingernail polish thing on Kris (I think it was you Nancy). From what I have read, Kris has his thumb done and Adam removed the polish from his thumb in sign of solidarity.

edited to add that I check the video on the idol site and he does take out the earpiece.

Since I am not a singer, I find her critiques to be very interesting. She talks about how holding their mouths a certain way or how they stand affecting the way they sing. This all makes so much sense and adds to the understanding of the performances that we see.

As far as Adam last week - he did at one point pull the earpiece out. Apparently he could tell that something was wrong with that back up singer during "Cryin". All I could tell on first listen was that I didn't care for the performance but after reading comments I went back and listened. The back up singer was shrill, too loud and wasn't singing in pace with Adam. You do have to respect him for pulling the earpiece out and trying to save the performance. I have also read (I think on mjsbigblog, not sure) that the earpieces were required because one of the three performers complained about something that they were hearing or not hearing. They had not been used this season until last week. No word on which performer complained.

so, is it a bad thing that I've already programed my cell phone to dial Adam's numbers Tuesday night?

I like Kris, I'm glad he's in the finals, I won't be mad if he wins, but I'd prefer it if Adam wins.

Great idea!

So Adam would be the first openly gay AND Jewish idol?? He's breaking ground everywhere  This Jewish girl may just vote next week for the first time since season 2 ;)

I imagine you've seen the video of Adam's breathtakingly beautiful performance of Shir Lashalom at a 2005 tribute concert to slain Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin? If not it's absolutely worth looking at (and I love his hair style as well): http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1078460.html

He also has a video of a performance with Noa Dori doing The Prayer in Hebrew/English http://www.nme.com/video/id/iu_dPnRzbRQ/search/noa+dori

I’m going to see if I can get software set up on 3 computers for next Tuesday to vote non-stop for Adam in all the time zones.

I would appreciate that so much! I'll PM you next week then and if you see any other requests on the list from restaurants you may be visiting, the thread members would be so grateful to have them filled. It's been really hard to get Disney recipes lately for those of us who collect them. I use them a lot for both entertaining and everyday because the majority of the time they turn out so well .

I know it doesn't matter because we'll never know, but I would be curious to see what this thread would be like if Adam HAD been voted off.

There would have been a collective meltdown on the Internet - no doubt about that at all. I have to admit this season has been polarizing and a lot of people are more emotionally invested than in previous seasons. AI has got to be loving all the free publicity! This is the first time ever that my favorite from the very first audition has made it this far - so yes, it's exciting. What I was really hoping for on Tuesday was that they would give each performer a 15 minute slot so they could do a “mini concert” and give us an idea of the kind of show we'd see if we bought tickets. That would mean less judges wasting our screen time with their silly antics, so of course, that can't happen.

Regarding the “bashing” on this thread, I guess it hasn't bothered me at all. DisBoards is a very polite and respectful place when compared to the rough-and-tumble, no-holds barred boards that are out there and fun to drop in on – like Survivor Sucks at Yuku. This is very tame.

Thanks for posting the master class link again Damo as I find it a fascinating read as well.

I actually stay here BECAUSE it's a moderated board.. some of the stuff you see, even on YouTube is so rude and disrespectful.

I agree, AI is jumping out of their SKIN because of the controversy!! They're LOVING this!! :dance3:
