American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

Do they change up the show any when they are in a contestants home state? I like Anoop and all, but I don't want him taking up any of my Adam time. ;)

No.

I saw the tour twice last year -- once in Vegas and the other in Phoenix. The latter was Brooke's hometown and they did nothing different for her the first night. They all performed the same songs in the same order.

:lmao: Our preacher worked American Idol into his sermon this morning. :lmao: He is a Danny fan, but thinks that Adam is the best singer - just not his type of music. He asked who voted for Kris and made a joke about all the young girls raising their hands.

Good for your preacher!

I enjoyed this whole season, I think this was the best for overall talent. There were a few clunkers in there but lots and lots of talent..and not all the same either, very diverse.

I agree. Last season it was hard to pick a favorite because I didn't really like any of them. This season was almost the exact opposite. While Adam was definitely so "WOO-HOO!" that I had to keep him as my front runner even though I absolutely LOVED Allison and even liked Kris in terms of "yea, he's nice to listen to." Anoop and even Michael Sharvo (or whatever) had some songs that made me say, "yea, they sound good, too!" Lots of fun stuff this year.

I would have loved to see them!

I also would have gone on the Carrie/Bo Bice year but we were too cheap.

I'm listening to some of Adam's studio recordings and it makes me a bit sad he didn't sing live like he did on the recordings because I think I would have been able to stomach him more. I guess he really loves performing live and singing his "rock wail" added to the performance for him but if I could have just heard his voice in its purest form I would have enjoyed it much more.

Still glad Kris won though! ;)

Personally, I feel that talent competitions - whether that be acting, singing or dancing - should reward the people who have actually worked and practiced the craft. I think it trivializes the professions to suggest you can be the best yet be a total amateur.

I think we are getting hung up on semantics. What I mean when I say amateur is not someone who has never practiced, never studied, or never performed in front of people. Amateur is someone who has not yet managed to make their living performing. A professional, on the other hand, has reached a certain level of success and is making their living by performing.

I always thought of AI as a forum in which to discover the undiscovered. Once you have a record deal, are working on well known musical in a major city, touring the country opening for a well known artist, etc. --basically if you have quit your 'day job' -- you are no longer an amateur. If that success goes away and are back to working a 9 - 5 to make ends meet, it doesn't change the fact that you HAD that big break.

The appeal of AI has always been - for me anyway -- seeing people get their big break. I don't like this show being used by people who already had a break but failed. That is why I never fully got behind Carly or MJ last season or Adam this one. They should all still pursue their dreams, I just don't like them using this show to do it.

Maybe they should have a new show called "Amateur Night at the Kodak" and see how well that does. I'm not being sarcastic (exactly) but yea... if you want your show then you could lobby for it. At this time, however, this show is not that.

But it used to be. I have been watching since the first season. Perhaps you haven't.

Most of them have had a ton of experience (and made money) playing in bars and clubs. In one interview (the pre finale one) Kris said that he had the same amount of experience as Adam, it just wasn't playing in Wicked.

I don't think so, other than the person saying something about it when they come out. Syesha is from our area but she didn't have more time than the top 2. She just said something about her family in the audience and thanked us for the hometown support.

I went to the AI tour last year for the first time because of DC, but I only liked him, MJ, and Carly. This year, we're going for Adam, but there isn't anyone I really dislike (though I'm not really looking forward to Scott and Megan.)

Oh booo... I see this thread dying and it's so sad. :sad1:

At least last year we had DC and Kimberly to gossip about!! :lmao:

What no "I Love Kris" threads? Come on, fans, where is your PASSION? Or is the passion ONLY against his competition??????? Hmmmmm??? :rolleyes1

.
this should make this thread more INteresting.... :yay:

I've been watching AI since season 2, and last season was my favorite. DC was my favorite last year, but I was impressed by a lot of them (Carly, MJ, Jason, etc.). The only one last season I really couldn't get in to was Ramiele. This season is totally different. It took me about half the season to really get 'into' it and pick a favorite (Kris), so by comparison, I enjoyed last season more than this season.

I saw tour last year and I couldn't believe my ears - they sounded so much better live than they did on the show, and they were all pretty darn good on the show. I'm going to a show again this year (Atlantic City), and I'm hoping this is true again this year. There were so many this season that I couldn't stomach (Megan Joy, Danny, Adam, Scott) that I hope they sound better live than they did on the show.

And Robin, don't get me started on the whole David/Kimberly thing. :)

That's true, I haven't. I jumped on board the late train (season 3) cause typically I hate this kind of "everybody loves it" so I must love it to stuff. But, it's fun, what you do?

LOL!! We all knew THAT wouldn't last, huh?

As for Ramiele, I had to do a SEARCH to remember who she was!! :confused3

My least fave last year was Syesha, MAINLY because he had no business being in the top three... :confused3 But what do I know, I thought the same about the winner this year! :scared1:

But this season was one where they could have said over and over "this is the most talented group of singers" and it would have held up.

I agree. I bought tickets for the first time because of Adam but I'll also be curious to hear the others live. One reason I stopped going to rock concerts was the horrendous sound system set on perpetually fortissimo and the big disappointment at the poor singing when I heard the bands live. With AI, I know I'm going to get good vocals.

I just wanted to say thanks for this explanation. DS is a professional musician (trumpet performance), just graduated from college and I always wondered why he scoffed at American Idol. You explained it so well, now I understand. BTW, his first musical job after graduation is taking him to Vancoover

Congrats to your son! What job is he doing here? He probably knows the local trumpet players but if he wants to get in touch with our prinicipal, Larry Knopp (a fabulous player) send me a PM and I can hook him up.

I understand your point, though in the arts, the line between professional and amateur are a little fuzzy. I started earning money playing by the age of 18 and put myself through school in Germany primarily with teaching and gigs on the side. Lots of musicians start off playing part-time to get the experience and get known and then if you get good enough and lucky enough you can go full time professional. Actually, I know a lot of musician’s union members who do other jobs on the side to help pay the bills (like accounting, house painting in the summer, etc.)

Adam is 27 and may never have been in the right spot at the right time to get “discovered”. All the professionals who worked with him agreed he was wildly talented but he was never offered a recording contract – unlike Allison who was offered one after winning a Telemundo talent contest. Maybe Robin can shed some light on why an Ashlee Simpson gets a record deal and an Adam doesn’t. I think that as long as an artist isn’t currently under contract or has no ties with someone in 19 Entertainment (which is why Joanna Pacitti got the boot); it’s not fair to exclude them from this competition. We would have a very boring program if you did.

Neil Lambert (Adam's brother) posts on another forum (Something Awful Forum) and some of his comments might be of interest for the Lambertini's here.

From Jan. 09
"Listen, ladies: Adam is gay. You need to stop asking him to be your boyfriend because that doesn't really compute for him. All is not lost! We're brothers and I'm straight. It's practically the same thing."

From May 16:
"What pi**es me off is that people think he's not talking about it (his sexuality) because he's scared of what'll happen. Look at the loving TV and tell me he's scared of weirding people out. Yeah right.

The truth is, American Idol shouldn't be about the contestants' silly personal stories. Had Danny Gokey not gone the Pity Party route, he would've been out sooner because he's just not that exciting of a singer. I don't want to see Adam on-screen whimpering about how hard it is to be a gay man in America because it doesn't have to do with his singing. Adam didn't want to fuse a sob story into his Idol persona. He wants to sing and entertain, not make people vote for him out of sympathy. "

May 20:
"I was talking to Adam earlier and he reconfirmed that he really does want to win this. So, I'm giving as much support as I can. And, with your help, he can succeed in his mission! He’s up against the ‘safe’ choice. The guy is talented and nice and not scary and weird. Adam is talented and weird. I want someone like that to win. Also, I love my brother and want him to sing.
If you share this goal, which I hope you do, please vote for my brother.
Katie Holmes showed up with Suri for one song, Adam's Change is Gonna Come, and then left." :sad1:

May 21:

"I had to keep reminding myself that this outcome is the best possible outcome. It was only a selfish pride thing that I wanted to see Adam win, but truthfully Kris needed the win and Adam didn't. loving SLASH wants to work with him. Queen? Tons of producers. He'll be fine.

I'd be happy to give you guys updates but I don't know how I'd do that. I guess post in TVIV even though it's not strictly regarding a TV show? If this thread stays open I could post here too.

The nerves finally hit me at the big reveal, but I wasn't surprised. I mean, dialidol had informed me of their fate the night before. My mom I was worried about, but she was ok too. The thing is, seeing the utter joy and complete shock from the Allens was really nice. After the show they were hugging and kissing their family and friends and it was simply wonderful. I'm very happy for them. Kris' brother's a good guy and we both occupied that my-brother-is-on-idol space so it was nice to watch him finish that journey. Kris' father's name is Neil as well, so I have a special affection for him too.

And hell, Kris is talented. Like I've always said, the only thing that would have sent me flying into a rage would have been a Gokey victory.

Plus, who loving cares who won? My brother just sang on stage with QUEEN AND KISS HOLY SH**T. I don't think he could have been happier. The entire show, actually, was pretty damned entertaining. The afterparty was good too.

I'll have you all know that Megan and I did have a nice conversation

I have plenty to say on this topic, but I'll say this: f*** American Idol. The production staff are all very nice people, the contestants for the most part are cool. The only thing I hate is the audience. Not those of us that sit around and simply talk/make fun. I'm talking about the incessantly screaming tweens. I had to sit on the set of American Idol Extra to watch Adam's exit interview and I couldn't handle it. I actually left and went around the corner to have a drink with Adam's/Allison's hair stylist and a former Idol contestant, much to Mom's chagrin.

I mean really, what the f**** kids? STOP SCREAMING THEIR NAMES. Perhaps I've never been a 12 year old girl (perhaps), but I just don't understand the idea of screaming someone's name in a vain effort to get their attention instead of actually listening to what they're saying or paying attention to the show. Great, you're having fun. But it's at everyone's expense. These are the people that fuel idol for the most part and for that reason I'm glad Adam didn't win. Perhaps I sound really arrogant here but I think he's bigger than this show. I want him to do bigger things than this. I want him to get an awesome producer and a few band members who can tear sh**t up.

So there's my rant. Favorite ***? moment: for 2 hours of the taping of Idol Extra, Christian Bale sat on the side of the set just shooting the breeze with some guy. It was bizarre. He wasn't there for the show, he was just... there. Maybe his kid was one of those shrieking idiots, but I can't imagine the child of a movie star being that way. So... what gives Christian? "

Neil is going to have to learn to be a bit more patient, like his brother. Fame comes with good and bad and you need to learn to accept both.

Not sure I'm understanding about Adam having no patients, but I think what Neil is going to need to learn is he isn't going to be helping his brothers career much by posting stuff like this on internet message boards.

Lol I didn't mean Adam had no patience, I said Neil needs to be more patient, like Adam....meaning Adam is patient and Neil needs to learn from that.

And I agree that he needs to stop blogging stupid stuff.

I'm going to a show again this year (Atlantic City), and I'm hoping this is true again this year.

I'll be at the Atlantic City show as well! I can't wait!! :cool1:

I don't want this thread to die. This has always been my favorite thread on these forums. I'll be leaving for Disney in 3 days (going for 9 days), and I'm sure this thread will be long gone by then. :sad1: I'll miss it.

Also, does anyone know anything about the vote totals? My grandmother said that she heard Adam lost by a lot and the producers thought it would have been a lot closer. I find that hard to believe.

Once more info comes out about tour practices, signings, etc., there will be lots of news.

Nobody has given out numbers. First we heard that there was a lot of power voting from Arkansas, then someone refuted that. Then we heard the votes weren't close. Who knows? I wouldn't doubt it. I think that the producers would actually look at the voting statistics and see where the votes were coming from. If Kris had 75,000,000 votes from 75,000 fans it is going to be different than if he had 75,000,000 votes from 10,000,000 fans. The producers know from experience what type of voting leads to what kind of sales and concert popularity.

:lmao: oops, I get it know. Sorry, missed the comma in the sentence.
