American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

because SOMEONE would chime in with "omg it's sexist!" because last season people were chiming in that the competition was racist because the final 4 were all white.

There is no chance of that happening this year. Based on last night's performance the '07 final four should all be women of color. All the skinny, look-alike white chicks can just pack their bags and go right now. Truly, with the possible exception of Gina Glocksen, they're all running together in my mind. That may not be very PC, but it's the truth IMO.

Loved Stephanie, Sabrina, Jordan, Melinda and Lakisha! I also liked Gina but was expecting a rock song from her. Everyone else was boring and forgettable with the exception of Antonella who was downright horrible.

Ditto. This is the perfect recap of last night's show. I totally agree with everything you said.

Good, but not Great: LaKisha. Sorry, but I can't stand it when folks pull out that song. LaKisha can sing, don't get me wrong, but that song is just an all-out ploy screaming "LOOK AT ME!" I really can't stand it when people sing that song. I hope that in the upcoming weeks, LaKisha shows she can sing by choosing better songs. This may sound harsh, but to me, she seems like Fantasia Redux.

I have to agree with you about "I Am Telling You..." but I do think that LaKisha was great. I actually had chills. And while it may be THE song that screams, "Look at me", I think that's exactly the right tone for a great singer to try to set on night one. She's certainly the one that everyone is talking about today. I think she's a strong enough singer to cover other genres also.

My favorite last night, both for her performance and the whole package, was Stephanie. Stephanie is my favorite girl, and Nick my favorite guy so far. Since I've barely seen either of them mentioned, it looks like I'm in the minority.

Well, I'm right there with you on Stephanie, but I am a little bit biased as she's a local favorite from Savannah. She won "Savannah Idol" down here so she's been on the local radar screen for a bit. I really like her and think she's going to do very well this season, maybe even top 4. Re: Nick. Sorry, Judi. You're on your own.

She's one of several very pretty girls this year. The problem is that they are all starting to look alike. Perhaps we could lump them into one contestant. Now performing... AlainaAmyAntonellaHaley.

I may be laughing, but ONLY because it's SO true! I wish we could eliminate all of them in one fell swoop!

They couldnt throw in one rocker this year for me??

This is definitely the one thing that's seriously missing this season.

I never got the hype in her. I was rooting for Diana. It literally comes down to perfomances that night I really do think so.

Oh my, I did not know that Fantasia would be on the results show to shriek, oops, I mean sing. I think I will tune in at the very end. Will the results show be kept to an overpadded 1 hour, or are we looking at a the 2-hour extravaganza?

I almost wish they had let Matt Buckley (Buckstein??) the cowboy through. I usually hate it when somebody goes on Idol and then does all country COUGH*carrie*COUGH, but I DID enjoy Bucky last year and think Matt would've given this year a much needed shot in the arm.

They definitely needed a rocker too. I didn't see any guy during the auditions that would've fit this bill but I DID see two girls (both of whom should've made it to the 24)...the girl with the elow lip piercing and the chick who trained like Rocky. I loved both their smokey sexy voices.

Whatever happened during Hollywood week to the young girl who was classically trained as an opera singer? She had braces. I don't know that she should've gone on but I thought she would make for interesting tv.

I just haven't found a reason to care about any of the contestants, and I hope this changes because I am a HUGE fan of the show. Aside from Gina, Melinda, Lakisha, Chris S, Chris R, Blake and Phil, I don't remember ANYBODY's name or what they sane or what they even look like. At the final cut for the 24, I totally thought Marissa was way better than Antonella (plus I share her name!)

Assuming he makes it through, Blake and the two Chris's are getting all my support.

I was also upset to see Bailey Brown go! She was a terrific singer who was too nice to be in a group with Antonella and her "best friend". They destroyed her royally!

Good golly, it took me a while to find a favorite.
I remember liking Taylor from his audition last year, but I dont remember being WOWED from the 1st night.
Give the people a chance.
IMO you guys are being way tooo critical for the 1st night

Welcome!!!!! I love this thread too! I have only been watching Idol for 3 seasons (start to finish), and I have followed the AI thread here for all 3 seasons. I love talking AI with my fellow DISers. I like reading everyone's thoughts and comments too.

I get what you're saying, but....

I'm personally whining because last year's first show produced the very very best performances of the whole season. Set the bar for me.

We talked about this a few pages back, but the first show had Taylor doing "Levon" (which wowed the heck out of me) and Chris doing "Wanted" as well as many more stellar performances (Shout out to Figment for taking and keeping great notes!)

And I know we're all busy, but I'm not used to watching a whole lot of tv. 4 hours was a lot for me to devote to such mediocrity, at best. After gagging through endless weeks of auditions, I'm ready for some entertainment. Real, quality entertainment.

And these are supposed to be the 24 BEST of ...how many? I mean, they showed us those packed stadiums enough times. And we're supposed to believe these are the best?

Eeek, I sound like I have anger issues. I had better give it a break for a week or 2 huh?

I agree! I liked Bailey Brown too. I thought the judges were being harsh when it came to not remembering lyrics. I know that's how it is. It's still a lot to go through the crash course of learning a song that they do even with a musical background.
