American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Okay, my 2 cents:

Stephanie: Pretty good but not very memorable.

Amy: Okay, very forgettable.

Leslie: Something about her is disturbing.

Sabrina: A surprise! I really liked her.

Antonella:  WT...

Jordin: Adorable!! I'm partial, she looks like Mini Me!

Nicole: Forgettable....

Haley: Pretty, but NO...

Melinda: I really liked her vocals but she needs a makeover.

Alaina: No...

Gina: I actually like this song but I don't like her.

LaKisha: Blew My Mind. Yes, this is a "look at me" song but it is NOT an easy song to sing or to present. If you do it WRONG it's REAL WRONG. She had the nerve to get up there and do it RIGHT. She was amazing. BTW, this is my son's FAVORITE song so I woke him up to hear it on DVR. He was shocked that she could pull it off, ONE and TWO because it had to be cut up and she STILL pulled it off. :thumbsup2

=======================================

Who SHOULD go home?

Antonella :rotfl:

Who WON'T go home?

Antonella :furious:

Who should be in the top 6:

Melinda
LaKisha
Jordin
Gina
Sabrina
Stephanie

Who probably WILL be in the top 6:

Melinda
LaKisha
Jordin
Gina
Sabrina
Antonella

Stephanie Edwards
I thought she was great. But, that was before seeing any of the other contestants. I guess she was so much better than the guys were that I gave her more credit than she really deserved. After rethinking it, I would probably give her a "6".

Amy Krebs
I'd love to give her a rating, but apparently she was neither very good nor very bad. She was completely forgetable since I have forgotten her entire performance.

Leslie Hunt
There is something about this girl that I don't really care for. But again, she was one that was completely forgetable performance wise.

Sabrina Sloan
I loved this girl. She has a natural beauty that I find refreshing. She was entertaining. She may not have the best voice (although it is very good), but she sells it well. I would give her a solid "8".

Antonella Barba
Really bad. I don't know if all of the nasty photos on the net have clouded my judgement, but she is my pick to go home. Anyone who poses for a photo while on the toilet with a handful of Charmin isn't my idea of an American Idol. Can I give her a negative number?

Jordin Sparks
This girl is too cute. I really like her but I'm a bit afraid that she won't have the experience to give us stellar performances. I agree with the judges that she has the voice, but she didn't shine like she could have last night. Still, she gets an "8".

Nicole Tranquillo
What was that????? All that I can think of is noise. Did anyone understand a word of what she was saying? I also think that she wasn't singing - more like babbling. Yuck! She gets a "big fat Zero".

Haley Scarnato
She is so beautiful, but she just doesn't have the talent to win this. I do hope she gets one more week to give it another shot. I think she will since she wasn't really horrible, just not one of the best. I'll give her a "5".

Melinda Doolittle
Loved her! I think she is Idol material. I hope she stays humble but for some reason I don't think she will. I don't know why because she hasn't given any indication of this, I just have a strange feeling that everyone telling her how great she is will start having a "big head" effect on her. Please let me be wrong. I'll give her a "9".

Alaina Alexander
This girl reminds me of Mariah Carey -- in looks only! I think she has a better shot at having a lasting relationship with Ryan than winning AI this year. She gets no rating since I can't remember much other than she looks like Mariah and Ryan really liked her.

Gina Glocksen
I am always amazed after reading Virgo10's review. We seem to think alike when it comes to Idol. I'm am also not sure why but I just don't care for this girl's personality. :confused3 I will also say she can sing well - much to my dismay since I really want her to go home. But, if I have to rate her, I'll also give her a "7".

Lakisha Jones
Okay. Here we go. I LOVE this girl. I have been rooting for her since her audition. She seems as though she can't imagine anyone ever liking her. She is so unsure of herself - until she steps into her "stage self". Then, she is scary good. She did get a bit out there on me a couple of times. At one point I thought she was stroking her inner thigh. I did the rewind thing and I don't still don't understand that move. It was kind of bizarre. But still, I think she was the greatest of the night. Afterwards, though, she reverted back to the frightened one who is afraid that people will hate her. She is very grateful and I hope she stays that way. I think she will. Needless to say, she gets a "10".

Who I want to go home:
Antonella and Gina

Who I think will go home:
Alaina and Nicole

This season is really boring me. The only two I like so far is the beat box guy and Chris Sligh. They're the only two that have originality and mega personality.

I think the judges got it way, way wrong this year in picking out contestants. I think they let too many really good and far more interesting people go.

Wow, it's funny how different people like different things...that's what makes the world go 'round. I thought last season was AWFUL. It was nothing compared to Season 4 which is by far my favorite. Not one performance last year blew me away...not one. This year I think that there are a few people who I like and am actually excited and looking forward to some good entertainment. Last year I was frankly bored. I think LeKisha's performance was better than anything we saw all last year.

Hope you get into this year a little more, you seem to ejoy Idol.

I was not into last season AT ALL!

My vote went to LaKisha last night. I give her props for singing the song Jennifer Hudson might be getting an Oscar for.

Unfortunately, I totally see the season turning into Season 3-which in my opinion was the WORST season. Battle of divas. Personally, the diva/Aretha Franklin type music is not my thing so I probably wont be voting much.
Last night was way too heavy on Aretha and Celine.
Come on girls, there has got to be more woman to choose from than that.
If I hear Celine one more time I will barf.
At least the one girl tried Chrissy Hinds-unfortunately failed at it though.

Seasons 4 and 5 were so good. There was so much talent and diversity.
You had soul, rock, country, pop, swooners.
This season seems too heavy on the soul and pop for my taste.

They couldnt throw in one rocker this year for me?? :sad1:

I wrote about that too. I think she definitely needs to lose the jacket. Lift up her chin & pull back her shoulders.

It looks as though someone just pushed her head down to cover her neck (sorta like they would do to the bride & groom figures on a wedding cake).

I do like the way she sings though.

I mentioned last night that she needs to stop hunching up her shoulders (I think it is a nervous habit) and the jacket she was wearing was way too small for her. PLUS why put a jacket with shoulder pads in it on when you always hunch up your shoulders? I found it annoying to watch, so I stopped watching the screen and just listened...much better.

Evidently the sponge of talent in America has been wrung out and is dry. :confused3 How else to explain 2/3 of what we have seen the last two nights? Either that or they let Paula pick the final 24.

My take on Tuesday and Wednesday...

1) Poor song selection is a big reason the guys sounded so bad. For the most part they picked slow, easy, boring songs. For example, I think its hard to make a guy like Blake Lewis sound vanilla, but that song he sang sure did. Sanjaya was all set up to be Mr. Teen Heartthrob, but by coming out and timidly singing a C-level Stevie Wonder song he wasted all his good cred all that in one night. Chris Sligh, who says his strength is song selection, was correct. That's why he stood out. I really wanted to like Chris R, so I'll continue to be among his suipporters for now.

2) The women did far better than the guys. Like many, I love Melinda. Her unassuming ammner wins me over, but I know she'll have to become more "diva-ish" to survive into late spring. Lakisha truly DID "blow it out the box". He performance just about got me out of my chair applauding and hollering. I just wonder if she'll do as well with any other song.

3) Bottom line: I don't think this season will be as fun as last year. Not enough interest in anyone at this point.

ETA: 4) Alaina is my "guilty pleasure" this year.

LaKeisha may be from Flint, but she currently lives right up the highway from where I live in Annapolis. I'm in an eastern suburb and she is northwest of the "city" (Annapolis is more like a big town)

Lakisha is living back in Flint now, or at least has told the local news that she is back to being a Flint resident. She moved from Flint, to Houston, to Maryland (although they said Baltimore, not Annapolis). Apparently, these moves were employment transfers with a bank. The gist of it was that as soon as she received her golden ticket in NY, she moved back to Flint to be with her family--where I presume her daughter is currently living while she is appearing on Idol.

At least, that's the story I heard on the local news this a.m. with Lakisha being credited as the source of the interview information. In any event, she will have two or three different areas laying claim to her fame and potentially pulling out the vote for her!

Well I think the girls were kickin' major bootie last night. I think the guys better look out.

I think Sabrina, Jordin, Melinda, & Lakeisha were the best. Lakeisha just about blew the roof off the place with her performance. I like Jennifer Hudson, but holy cow! She was awesome! Go dreamgirl!

It's funny how each local news station is saying she's from their area :lmao:

Just wanted to comment on Nicole. I do think that Nicole can sing and I agreed with Paula that she can really hit some difficult notes. But she just looked so odd singing that song. So angry and I don't know...it was painful to watch her. I didn't like the song and I don't think she performed well, but I do think she can sing.

I agree with this. They let go a lot of VERY talented people in the Hollywood competition and chose what I see as a lot of "quirky" contestants. I don't think they exercised a lot of good judgment this year.

And I think that they let the "forgotten lyrics" thing get out of hand when they got rid of some of their very best talent (it was enforced selectively anyway). Heck, cut them some slack, let the best voices get to the finals, and the the PUBLIC decide!

You know what else annoys me? (Did anyone see Family Guy when Peter did "Grinds My Gears"? That's what I feel like ;)) The fact that last night they showed Nicole and Melinda during group day with the judges saying they were the best group to perform that day. Wouldn't it have been nice to actually see that group perform during Hollywood week and not just a 2 second clip during Top 24? Especially with 2 of the top 24 girls?? I wouldn't mind seeing the best group rather than a bunch of people forgetting their lyrics...

Check out the Vote for the Worst site. They have the photos on their site. I don't want to link directly.

Ooooo.... that site must be slammed. When i tried to go there I got some freaky looking error message only an engineer could love.
