American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Loved last night's show except for the fact that one hour was NOT enough. Even the husband only muttered "Is it over yet?" a couple of times. :teeth:

The biggest surprise for me were seeing that Matt Buckstein, the cowboy from last year, did get to Hollywood again. He left me shaking my head after the finale show last year and wondering why he didn't make it further. Unfortunately, IF the spoiler threads are correct, he doesn't go any further this year. :(

People I wished had moved on...
Perla
Bailey Brown
The sister of the the brother/sister team.

But really the entire night came down to one 30 second blurb of 4 guys singing the sweetest harmony. And the lead voice in that group was Chris Sligh. He was the only one who gave me an OMG moment during the auditions and last night did nothing to change my mind.

While I don't think that there is no one who will challenge him, as things stand right now, this competition is his for the taking. I just hope they can convince him to lose the hair. I loved Taylor's gray but the Afro has got to go! I find it distracting and that's really too bad as you want to devote all your attention to that marvelous voice.

Can't wait for tonight!!! And, as always, this is JMHO. :teeth:

I agree - DH & I looked at each other & at the same time said, "Wow, they could be a group right now". They were really good & entertaining.

Love Chris Sligh also but I agree that he should tame his hair down a bit. It's distracting.

I disagree about Perla. She was ICKY with her voice. Seems all she can sing are the one genre of songs--but she was sooo off during the group part.

Bailey--they were very strict with the word forgetting and she could only remember the first couple--and hten had several phrases where she stood there just dancing. She couldn't remember the rest until someone helped her (which of course threw her off). Her tantrum about it being not fair b/c she didn't flirt with the boys---well essentially she choked and despite all of her practice and working hard, she couldn't step up to the plate. I feel bad for her--but the judges made the right decision.

was i the only one who thought that Sundance WASN'T that good tonight?? i mean, yeah he sounded good in the auditions, but i dunno, he didn't sound very good to me.

I thought so as well...and he agreed b/c he was shocked he got through and made a point to comment that he was NOT an example on how to do this.

That was Chris Sligh and he's been my favorite since his first audition. I predict he will definitely be in the top 12 and may go pretty far. So far I am just not feeling the girls this year but I like a couple of the guys I have seen. Maybe that will change after we get to the top 24 and we hear more of the singing and less of the backstage (aka pointless) stuff.

If you look on MJ's Big blog (Google for it) you will see some spoilers regarding Chris. I don't want to give it away--but I was pleased

I thought as a group the one with Chris, they were fantastic and brought originality that no other groups did. :)
I also thought Sundance was not as good last night but he blew me away in the auditions.

::yes::
Chris Sligh is definitely my favorite right now! That entire group was fantastic, though.
Sundance surprised me last night. I don't know what happened.

I am looking forward to tonight!!!! :thumbsup2

BTW, did anyone else notice that it sounded like that mom hung up on her son when he called and said that he didn't make it through this round????? I cried!!!!!! I can't believe she hung up on him!!!!!!!!!!! I felt so sorry for him. He had already said that she is never proud of him or supportive of him. Please tell me that she didn't hang up on him, that I heard it wrong.

Thanks for that link. This was interesting.

Seal’s 1995 hit “Kiss From a Rose” pops up on the Hot Digital Songs chart this week at #58. Weird, huh? Not really–Chris Sligh re-introduced the song to millions of people when he performed it during the Birmingham audition episode last week…

I actually liked Chris' version better. :thumbsup2

I think she hung up on him, too. I felt so sorry for that kid - that was just pathetic. He had to make it to Hollywood on AI for his mom to tell him she loved him, and then when he got cut she hung up on him. Brutal.

I enjoyed last night's show! I truly think they spent too much time on the "best friends" and Bailey....:confused3 ... and I don't remember when I asked God to get rid of a contestant (Perla)...:rotfl2:

I just thought it was cruel to have the last room hear both rooms before them yelp and holler before they got their visit. That was just evil....

I think Sundance is the first proof that they decide who is going thru before they perform. He did not deserve to go thru at ALL. Funny how Robyn Troop was so awesome on the Grammy's the other night but so bad last night.

I've always been a lyrics fanatic so forgetting the lyrics is a BIG one for me, too. I understand nerves but when you are warned ahead of time there is no excuse for it. I sure Bailey is sick of hearing about it by now...

The four guys who did "How Deep Is Your Love" just KILLED me!!! Awesome!!!

The grammy's? Was this the girl who sang with Justin Timberlake?

And she was on AI?

Wouldn't the grammy's make her ineligible for AI?

Was Chris' group the one that had the spikey haired blond guy that did the voice percussion and the big kid with the 'fro? They were really good, they should form a group on their own.

Yep--they were teh one with the beat box.

I was mildly scared for beat box guy. I do think he needs to be careful with how much he does that....but other than that it sounded AWESOME!!!!

Gawd, I am so stupid. I knew I heard that name before and I just watched the Grammys two nights ago. Were the other two girls AI contestants too?

I agree with you about some contestants being decided on beforehand. And I'll bet Bailey was in there too, until she blew the group stage. She might have gotten away with a few missed words, but that whole blanking out bit, killed her.

Beat box! I was trying to remeber the term, but I hit a blank when I was typing that. Thanks.

And Chris is is the curly haired guy! He is good. I'm surprised that Simon did give him his old "you don't look like an American Idol" line.

I so wanted Bailey to go own. She blew it though, big time. Such a shame since she did so well on her inital auditon.

Liking Chris Sligh a lot so far!

I too thought that that mother hung on her son. I was hoping that I was wrong about that and that the call was just dropped. That would be a crappy thing to do.

Am I the only one that was okay with Baylie going home? I didn't think she was that good.

I don't think she was great, but I wished she would have stayed longer than the "best friend" that was flirting with the guys.

All worked out in the end though as "the flirt" went home also.
