American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Oh, I wasn't only directing the comment to you...just to Elliot fans in general. I never liked him last year, and never understood what anybody saw in him, since his voice is bland, at best, and that horrible vibrato just drives me nuts. I just don't see him having a single "hit" unless they doctor his voice the way they do Jessica Simpson or some boy bands. Likeable as a person or not...he's not going to be a success with this album or any other. That's my prediction, at least (and I haven't been wrong about anything Idol yet outside of any given individual vote result, save maybe Clay's commercial appeal not being as great as I'd imagined it would...too Barry Manilowish, I guess).

As for Kat...we'll see. Girl's got some serious pipes, and missing a note here or there won't matter in a studio (see previous comment about Jessica Simpson). She's also very attractive, which ain't exactly a hindrance. Her first album may not soar up the charts, but don't be surprised if her sophomore effort is a big success. In the end, I think she'll outsell everyone from last year except Chris.

I could care less what the rest of the world likes, I know what I like. Pop and Country will alway outsell Jazz and R&B, heck, even Hip Hop does, but that has nothing to do with me.

I like Taylor because he's different. He's a performer, he loves the stage and loves his fans. I'll take that before any sold out pop singer ANYDAY.

Katherine's cd is awful I'm sorry. It's not her best style in my opinion.

Chris stayed to who he was and that's why he's successful.

Elliot I haven't heard his yet so I can't judge.

Some of the Idols have sucess and some don't. Tamyra could have been successful and has an amazing voice but due to lack of promotion and such her album never took off, same with Justin Guarini.

On a brighter note, I heard Chris Daughtrey on one of the radio station this afternoon. Pretty good song too but for the life of me I don't remember the name of it. DUH!

If the AI competition was voice only, no video, no photos of any contestants, I think the voting would probably not have been the same.

Everyone has their opinions, no one is going to be everyone's favorite, that's why we have such diversity. But I think if you had only heard & not seen Kat, Ace, Taylor, Elliot & Chris, the outcome would have been somewhat different.

I agree, which is one of the reason I watched MOST of the show with my back to it last year!

just for those who said earlier in this thread that she will never be on the same level as Kelly Clarkson and will only win country music awards....well she is on her way and will pass Kelly.......I think Simon is right that she will be the best selling artist ever from AI....Way to go Carrie...

Carrie has won three total but I don't think she will be more successful than Kelly. Kelly has broke away from AI and is not part of it anymore, very seldom will you pick up something and read AI attached to Kelly's name. I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

Just a bit OT here. I've been watching AI Rewind. Love it! I didn't jump in to this whole AI thing until the Bo/Carrie season so seeing the contestants from season 1 is so cool. The only ones I had really heard of were Kellie and Justine but there were quite a few really good singers during that season.

I'm glad they changed how they picked the top 10. Right now the public has picked six. Are the judges going to pick the final 4? Guess I'll find out next week.

My favorites so far are Justine and Tamyra Gray.

I would like to see a side by side comparison between them....Carrie now vs kelly now....just to see how much ground Carrie has to make up....Kelly is 7-8 years removed from her AI win and Carrie 2 years....I think the Carrie will out do Kelly but they will be the 2 best so far from AI....they of course are not my personal favorites....Still like Ruben and Taylor the best....from an AI victory standpoint

Kelly won in 2002 and Carrie won in 2005. I imagine it will take another couple of years or so to be able to make a comparison. Carrie's second album should tell the tale.

I think that as long as the AI contestant puts out a good album, it will sell well. Some contestants have been luckier than others in the material that they have chosen or been assigned. I really think it is more about the album than the contestant.

ETA: The reporter just asked her if she was concerned that someone may take advantage of her in the business. She said no because she is a tough cookie. The interview is the same day as a photo shoot for some country music magazine. She looks great in the pictures! I thought the news web site would show some of the interview by video. Oh well, since it will run through the night news, maybe some video will appear on the web site tomorrow.
