I just don’t know what it is about this season that won’t allow me to get excited over the performers. We have what is arguably one of the best singers ever on AI but she just doesn’t moooove me. That being said, here’s my take on last night’s show.
Jordin 1: She did Wishin on a Star, not one of my favorite songs. She did, however, do an adequate job with it. As Simon likes to say, nothing that made me want to stand up and cheer but it was better than I thought it might be. She got a
6. It would have been more but I really dislike that song.
Blake 1: He sang Roxanne. I actually liked his version because it was a lot like Sting’s. Both he and Jordin and surprisingly even our resident pro Melinda all seemed nervous tonight so no one is going to be getting bonus points for their stage presence. I gave him a
7.
Melinda 1: I wanted to open a vein when they said she’d be doing a Whitney song but her version of I Believe In You and Me actually made me like this song. Melinda simply is not a drop dead gorgeous woman but tonight was the best she’s looked all season. Two words Mindy Doo… Long Hair. Anyway, another solid performance from her, she got a
9.
Jordin 2: It was here that I wanted to shoot the producers. WTH was with giving a 17 year old (did you know she’s only 17?

) a song like Hard for the Money. First of all it wasn’t in her range and secondly, did she even understand what the lyrics were about? No one but Donna Summer should sing Donna Summer. The high point was the ending, mostly because it was the end of the song. I gave her a
6. It would have been lower but she really did nail the very end of the song.
Blake 2: He did This Love. It reminded me of many of the other numbers he’s done over the weeks. Generically boring. He got a
6.
Melinda 2: With this number I really wanted to go one on one with the producers. This was perhaps the worst Tina Turner song ever. Still, considering what she had to work with, I thought she did a wonderful job. She got another
9 for making the best out of a totally weird number.
Jordin 3: Her repeat of I Who Have Nothing was still solid but lacked some of the fire of the first performance. I wish someone would inform Simon that even older numbers can still be hot. She got a
9.
Blake 3: He sang ? and ended his night with what may have been his worst performance of the season. No singing here that I could hear, just screaming to the point that I finally hit the dreaded mute button. He got a
2 and that’s only because he didn’t fall over.
Melinda 3: I had hoped for an amazing ended but, as so many times this season, NOOOOOOOO! She repeated I’m a Woman. It didn’t excite me the first time she did it and it did so even less this time. When Mandisa did this number last year I was on my feet but Melinda just doesn’t have Mandisa’s soulful delivery. It was OK but I had wanted so much more. She got an
8.
Who I voted for:
Melinda for about 30 minutes.
Who I want to go home:
Blake
Who I think will go home:
It won’t surprise me if it’s Melinda
The judges were too annoying last night. I have a few quotes for them but I can’t put them on a family board.
As always: JMHO
