American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread Part 3

Dan, I think you might enjoy this.............................

Our local tv station is doing a running story on Kellie Pickler this week. One of the reporters went on the road with her, in her bus. The station ran a preview for it this weekend. The commercials are running also that show small bits of the interview. The reporter does ask her about her "new chest". Apparently she is going to talk very open about it. There is a report posted on the tv station web site that you can read. There is also a video with some of the interview. Here is the link so you can see what is up now.

Good Stuff. thanks for posting. You cant help but love her. Neat to see her tonight on the ACM award show.

I'm watching the awards with ya Dan. Just wait till you hear Kelly and Reba. Chills is all I have to say.

Sorry I ahd to quit watching and Tivo. Wife wanted to see AI when she got home from work. So I will catch up on the awards this week. I see my man George won 1 award alread. Song of the year just add it to the collection.

I really liked all 3 of Jordins songs tonight. Someone said earlier that she doesnt have the pipes. WRONG. the girl can flat out sing. The one song that Simon said was too old for her actually gave me chills. Loved it. Even my wife who has been a Blake supporter most of the season says Jordin needs to win this.

Melinda was good and consistent as always.

Blake...eh...I actually liked the Maroon song it was good and the judges are right thats the stuff he needs to be doing. the other 2 songs didnt care for at all. sorry. Oh and the at home piece on stage with Sir Mix Alot just proves my point about his beat boxing. thats the industry for it. I love rap and beat boxing. but he beat a dead horse with it this season IMHO.

Vocally this should come dowm to Jordin VS Melinda. Will it????? stay tuned

on to watch Deadliest Catch

Did Melinda just call him Randy Johnson???

The mayor called him Randy Johnson, then corrected himself. I'm pretty sure Melinda was making a joke...not that it was funny, but a joke nonetheless :)

Final Three…Here’s hoping Melinda shines tonight…

Round One – Judges’ Picks
Jordin Sparks – Wishing on a Star
– Well, I’ve never heard this song before, but I thought it was really old for her. She sounded okay, but it really wasn’t anything special.

Blake Lewis – Roxanne – This song really fit in his vocal range, but by the second verse, I was somewhat cringing when he went for the high notes. Still, I think it was a good effort and the best he’s sounded “purely singing” since week 1’s “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane.

Melinda Doolittle – I Believe in You and Me – A very different song for Melinda to sing – unlike anything we’ve heard her sing before. I liked it, but didn’t love it.

Round One Winner: Melinda, by a hair over Blake, with Jordin last

Round Two – Producers’ Picks – No Clive Davis Picks this Year…Hmmm…
Jordin Sparks – She Works Hard for the Money
– What an awful song choice! In case you didn’t know, she’s 17! Give her something youthful to sing! With the exception of the end, I was bored by this one – not necessarily her fault, though.

Blake Lewis – This Love – Unlike Jordin’s song, I’m a big fan of this one. Like Roxanne, I think this song fit his vocal range very well. The beatboxing fit the song, but honestly wasn’t necessary and kinda detracted from the performance to me. Nice to hear him sing something modern.

Melinda Doolittle – Nutbush City Limits – Don’t know this song and I don’t think I like it, but Melinda can sing! Loved that she was rocking out and I honestly thought I was watching a younger Tina Turner on the stage.

Round Two Winner: Tie between Melinda and Blake

Round Three – Personal Choice
Jordin Sparks – I (Who Have Nothing)
– Hate that she’s repeating a song from a previous week. Don’t they repeat songs next week? Still, I loved this song when she sang it the first time and I loved it when she sang it this time (I think she did it better this time around). But, I think I’ll take some points away for a repeat!

Blake Lewis – When I Get You Alone – Love this song! This was old Robin Thicke before he went all falsetto and freaky, IMO. Loved this performance by Blake! He’s really bringing it tonight and I have not been one of his biggest fans.

Melinda Doolittle – I’m a Woman – And Melinda repeats, too! Come on, folks, you repeat next week! Still, like Jordin, Melinda sure did sing this one!

Round Three Winner – Blake, ‘cuz Melinda and Jordin shoulda chosen different songs (both were spectacular with what they sang)

My Ranking from Best to Worst Based on Tonight’s Performances
Top of the Heap

Melinda Doolittle – She’s been my fave from the she shined tonight
Blake Lewis – I can’t believe this, but he was GREAT tonight. I really liked all three of his songs tonight
Middle of the Pack
No one
Bottom of the Barrel
Jordin Sparks – Sorry. I know she can sing, but I think she’s overrated.

An excellent week overall and I can’t believe I’m saying that I’d like to see Melinda and Blake in the finale.

I just don’t know what it is about this season that won’t allow me to get excited over the performers. We have what is arguably one of the best singers ever on AI but she just doesn’t moooove me. That being said, here’s my take on last night’s show.

Jordin 1: She did Wishin on a Star, not one of my favorite songs. She did, however, do an adequate job with it. As Simon likes to say, nothing that made me want to stand up and cheer but it was better than I thought it might be. She got a 6. It would have been more but I really dislike that song.

Blake 1: He sang Roxanne. I actually liked his version because it was a lot like Sting’s. Both he and Jordin and surprisingly even our resident pro Melinda all seemed nervous tonight so no one is going to be getting bonus points for their stage presence. I gave him a 7.

Melinda 1: I wanted to open a vein when they said she’d be doing a Whitney song but her version of I Believe In You and Me actually made me like this song. Melinda simply is not a drop dead gorgeous woman but tonight was the best she’s looked all season. Two words Mindy Doo… Long Hair. Anyway, another solid performance from her, she got a 9.

Jordin 2: It was here that I wanted to shoot the producers. WTH was with giving a 17 year old (did you know she’s only 17?) a song like Hard for the Money. First of all it wasn’t in her range and secondly, did she even understand what the lyrics were about? No one but Donna Summer should sing Donna Summer. The high point was the ending, mostly because it was the end of the song. I gave her a 6. It would have been lower but she really did nail the very end of the song.

Blake 2: He did This Love. It reminded me of many of the other numbers he’s done over the weeks. Generically boring. He got a 6.

Melinda 2: With this number I really wanted to go one on one with the producers. This was perhaps the worst Tina Turner song ever. Still, considering what she had to work with, I thought she did a wonderful job. She got another 9 for making the best out of a totally weird number.

Jordin 3: Her repeat of I Who Have Nothing was still solid but lacked some of the fire of the first performance. I wish someone would inform Simon that even older numbers can still be hot. She got a 9.

Blake 3: He sang ? and ended his night with what may have been his worst performance of the season. No singing here that I could hear, just screaming to the point that I finally hit the dreaded mute button. He got a 2 and that’s only because he didn’t fall over.

Melinda 3: I had hoped for an amazing ended but, as so many times this season, NOOOOOOOO! She repeated I’m a Woman. It didn’t excite me the first time she did it and it did so even less this time. When Mandisa did this number last year I was on my feet but Melinda just doesn’t have Mandisa’s soulful delivery. It was OK but I had wanted so much more. She got an 8.

Who I voted for:
Melinda for about 30 minutes.

Who I want to go home:
Blake

Who I think will go home:
It won’t surprise me if it’s Melinda

The judges were too annoying last night. I have a few quotes for them but I can’t put them on a family board.

As always: JMHO :teeth:

I know that everyone thinks Blake is going home, but does anyone think he might pull through tonight???? I'm certainly hoping! :yay:

It doesn't really matter to me who wins. Blake will put out a cd whether he wins or not. Same for Melinda and Jordin but I'm not buying their cds. I really just have no interest in either of them.

I hope Blake stays just so I can see him perform more.

:hippie:

I actually think it will be Melinda going home. Which will really be a travesty, since she is the most talented. I'm rooting for Blake tho - he's the one I most enjoy watching and the one who's record I would buy.

Is there any way I can view their performances last night? We lost power from a bad storm and missed the entire show. :(

Have been enjoying the reviews from you guys, tho!:thumbsup2

I was going to post my thoughts on last night's show, but RyMickey said everything I was thinking. I agree completely with everything you say here. :thumbsup2

How can say you were cringing when Blake was singing and then say he was the best....:confused3

He doesnt have the voice no where near the other 2 and doesnt need to be final 2 but I guess the way the voting goes he does deserve.

Jordin Sparks – Sorry. I know she can sing, but I think she’s overrated(emphasis added).

Ditto. . .I realize that Jordin appears "more marketable", but that is not our concern. We are constantly reminded this is a singing contest. If so, I do not understand how anyone can deny that Melinda is the best vocalist. She has never had a bad or even mediocre performance.

I like Jordin (who is only 17), I like Blake, too--but Melinda sings the best. :thumbsup2

Forgive me, but Blake's "moves" are just creepy and they distract from his performance. (which might not be a bad thing. ) He does that "look to the side after each phrase" thing, the "robotic pointy" thing, the "jacket flip"where he acts like a street salesman, and the constant, never ending up and down bop. It distracts from his, forgive me again, mediocre voice. Yes, the beatboxing is unique, but I don't think it is his VOICE that has taken him this far.
And on one last sidenote, the Cruella DeVil hair, as I call it, should have been left in the movie. Blake's white streaks provide another distraction...

OMG! I was squawking about the moves during each one of his songs. Between looking like he got sideswiped, electrocuted and then the bouncing I can't remember any songs :confused3

I think Melinda is by far the best vocalist but American Idol is not a singing contest. It's about who will sell the most music.

Dan, for me I will say that I found myself waiting to see if he would make it. I have not cared for Blake lately, and honestly I was not sure what to expect from him last night. I didn't expect him to do better than Melinda or Jordin. However, I was bored by Jordin last night. I can't believe that I am even saying that, but I was. There was no shine or extra magic with her last night. I was totally disappointed that she and Melinda did repeat performances. I think that Blake did a better job than Jordin last night. Melinda, IMO, did the best of the three.
