American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Since this is my first American Idol season, could someone please explain what happens next? Obviously they need to whittle down the group, but how do they do it? Do 2 from each group get eliminated every week? Do we vote all the way through?

Thanks! :)

Jill

I believe it is 2 a week until the Top 12 then it is single elimination.

There are racy pictures of Becky in The Enquirer this week...not that I read it or anything... :rolleyes1

I was just an article on the Broadway show Tarzan that will be opening soon. They mentioned that the actor picked to play Tarzan, Josh Strickland, was an American Idol contestant. I did a quick google and saw that he was on season two. How come I don't remember him? Was he in the final 12? The Idolonfox web site doesn't seem to have a link to past shows (at least not one I could find).

If the producers of AI were truly interested in correcting the voting problems, they would do one of two things:

A - Limit the number of votes per household. This would probably be the most fair, as it would stop the mass-dialing crowd from having so much of an impact. It would also have the benefit of minimizing the effectiveness of the VFTW type of juvenile people (and I'm being as nice as I can) that want to ruin the show for everyone else.

B - Change the vote from who you want to stay to who you want to go. That way, someone like Brenna would never last (or Scott Savol from last year). Again, this would balance out the mass-dialers somewhat, as even a mass dialing could not save a contestant that performed really badly (everyone else would be voting for the same person). Also, it throws it in the face of the juveniles at that other site, as they would then have to consciously make the decision to vote the best singer out of the competition, rather than just trying to keep the talentless hacks they promote from being kicked out.

The best choice is probably just to limit the number of votes per household, but that's not likely to happen. They enjoy touting those millions of votes too much to change things.

So far, it seems Ryan must of gotten a backlash for how cold he was in last years eliminations. (bad memory I almost erased, he was brutal).

He does not seem to be as bad this year. I know it is not his decision on how he presents the news tot he loser ( I am sure the producers have input)

VFTW is a web-site that gets people to Vote For The Worst contestant...Horrible!

Ready for tonight - hope the songs are good as all last week I was singing "Copa Cobana" thanks to Bobby! :rotfl:

Every year, since Idol's conception, Simon Cowell's choice has won. Why would they want to change the voting process? It is going exactly the way they want.

What is VFTW?? :confused3

It's a group of people, probably way less important than they think they are, who get some kind of perverse pleasure out of building up the hopes of a less talented contestant. They seem to think that it's a way to protest or something. It really doesn't make much sense. :confused3

yaaaaaawn
i liked katharine so much this week, but i was bored by tonight's performance. i agree with paula, bad song choice.

ack! i'm not enjoying kinnick's performance either. let's hope they get better tonight! i don't even recognize the two songs that have been sung so far.

ETA: Magic Mountain in Disneyland? Where's that Simon??? :teeth:

I thought Katharine's song was absolutely beautiful. Elegant, sophisticated and perfectly controlled. I hate songs that are full of glory notes. This one was like a little black dress.

I missed Katherines song..what did she sing? Kinnicks song I did not like..I wasn't too crazy about the original, not a good song choice for her.

And Simon....please if you are going to name mountains from Disney parks...get them right!!!!!
