The "I shot the sheriff" guy had me rolling.

Well he did say he was going to sing the chorus. And he proceeded to sing it, 7 times. :rotfl:

And, I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy.

I'm on west coast time and the guy with the sweaty pits just finished up audition number 2. :rotfl2: Someone should of told him to change his shirt.

:confused3 :confused3 I noticed that too! Maybe she came back on different days? :confused3

There were a few people that had double segments.. the girl in the prom dress had 2 different auditions.. one she was doing Lady Marmalade at the end.. and she had the chiffon scarf over her shoulders.. which she did not have on during her "real" audition segment.. AND she didn't sing Lady Marmalade in her "real" audition. Then there was the girl who went on and on about how singing was her life and she's been singing since she could talk.. she was wearing the green shirt with the white jacket.. and she was HORRIBLE.. she sang some unrecognizable song and they didn't take her.. but then at the end she was Also in the Lady marmalade section.. this time with a hat on... so.. hmmmmm.... Makes ya wonder!.. Editing, it's an amazing thing!

It's David Radford and he's the friend of my DD I posted about yesterday!

woo hoo! He's going to Hollywood!

Can't believe there was hesitation with him. He has a good voice, especially with a little coaching.

do they have to pay their own way to HOllywood?? I forgot from prior seasons.

What a great start to another AI season!

Worst of the night: The Tan Girl and Ukrainian Girl. Both nearly got muted.

Funniest: Hands down... I Shot the Sheriff. I was on the floor laughing!!

Weirdest Moments: Letting that last guy get through. What on earth were they thinking??
The little blond with the big trash mouth.
The guy in native dress.
The guy IN A DRESS!!!

Best of Show:
The first set of twins!
The woman who sang an Alicia Keyes song right after they were on. She was awesome.
The crooner that one of the posters on this thread knows.

Can't wait for tonight's offering. :)

Oops, almost forgot the best Simonism of the night:
Blah, Blah... Blah, Blah,Blah. Whatever! :teeth:

I pretty much ditto what everyone else has said. I hate to admit it since I'm an old woman, but the little crooner guy just stole my heart. I kept yelling to my DD13, "OMG, he is SOOOO cute!!!" I really hope he goes far. The sheriff had me rolling. I had wondered how long he would keep singing that one line. Thankfully they stopped him though.

As for Simon. I agree that he is a little over the top at times. I too wonder how much of it is staged. Remember, everyone auditions for others before they even get to Simon. They send the horrible ones through for our entertainment. At least I hope they don't tell them they are wonderful just so Simon can rip them apart. As for the crazy jumping guy. It reminds me of when Simon sent the bicycle girl through. I think they do it just to add some spice.

I think some of the parents share the blame - those who blindly support their children singing when they CLEARLY have no talent. I'm all for encouraging our kids' dreams but if your child sings like a dying cat, why agree to let him/her audition and be ridiculed?

You know, I've wondered about that myself. Either those parents are living in la-la land along with their kids (like that one mother who said that "listening to him sing makes me cry." I can see why), or they've tried telling the kid but they choose to not listen. Sometimes, it takes someone being flat out blunt for a person to get the idea that maybe they need to seek another avenue.

Re: the case of the young man Simon told to shave his facial hair...etc. I believe Simon was sick of telling him no. The kid has tried more than once each season and has been turned down each and every time. Which is more cruel--giving someone false hope or making it clear they will never make the show? If they don't get the message the first or second time, they deserve to be told what they could do with their musical abilities. If they can't take criticism, then they have no business being in the entertainment business in the first place.

If the best theis young man could hope for mucically is to be a female impersonator, then maybe he needs to be told that so he can pursue other avenues. He clearly didn't have the talent to be an Idol.

As for the same people on different days--Don't they have to audition before seeing the final judges? Maybe those are tapes made during the first audition, and then they're told when to come back for the final audition?

Sometimes these audition shows are just so hard to watch. Especially since last night seemed to be Chicago where I live. Lots of wierd people out there. Too many Paris Hilton rip-offs which is what I thought the tan girl was. :rotfl2: Worth a couple of laughs but I enjoy the later shows much more when they are really onstage.

Sometimes they go through many rounds before they even get to the final judges, so that could very well explain the different clothes.

Last night was hilarious. That Ukrainian girl - holy cow. I thought she was going to start stripping while she was singing that! The only thing that was missing was the pole! :rotfl2:

I felt bad for the guy dressed like the Statue of Liberty. He got 2 words out and Simon booted him. I bet if he hadn't have dressed up in that stupid outfit he would have at least had a shot at getting the entire line out. What the heck is going through these people's minds to think that dressing up like a fool is going to get you further? Last year was our first year we watched - has anyone ever made if far that dressed up in a crazy costume at the audition?

The statue of liberty guy actually appeared to be able to sing, from the 2 seconds I heard. But I gotta go with Simon on this one. If you don't take the audition seriously, you won't take the competition seriously. If he comes back without the stupid outfit then he may just stand a chance.

You know I never thought of that. Maybe they all had to sing Lady Marmalade for an initial audition and got taped doing that. I was so cracking up at the ones that didn't even get the words right in that song. I mean it was played over and over when I was younger and then played over and over again with the Moulin Rouge version...how could you not know the words?

i read that AI will be showing more of the contestants interacting with each other off the stage and that it won't all be positive what we see.

also that more clips of the judges agreeing and disagreeing.

i am ready for tonight.!! ::yes::

As far as the judges being harsh - that's life and auditions in the real world may not have them laughing out loud or saying rude/snide comments (although a lot do), but in real life that is how auditions go. The performing arts high school I went to - in one of my auditions, which were open, so friends were in the audience....I was auditioning for a duet and was down to me and another girl....they picked the other girl and told me it was a difference of 10 pounds - in front of everyone. For a 15 year old it was a little embarrassing but hey, I needed to know the truth right? If it was because I couldn't dance I needed to know that as well.

No auditions I have been to or have judged have the auditioners been coddled - this may be different for under age 12 set - I have had no expereince there. This includes WDW, college and nfl cheering, local theatres, dance companies etc...I am in no way saying it's right or wrong but in my expereince it has never been just a "keep trying", "come back next year" kind of thing.

If these people are that on the edge that they might "throw themselves in front of a bus", then I am sure there would be something in their life that would put them over the edge not simply this audition. I find it hard pressed to think these people don't know what they are in for whether or not they think they have talent. And the parents....goodness, that's a whole 'nother story!

Anyway, on to the show!

I loved it when they brought in the mother of that one girl. That said it all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! She was horrid...and talk about the attitudes on some of these people.

Was it me or was Paula making eyes at a couple of the guys that made it through? Especially the Harry Connick or Sinatra young kid??!!!

There were some really good singers in there though....can't wait to see and hear the final group.

Don't joke, I work with a girl like that [IN BANKING]. Nice girl, but the lights aren't all on upstairs, KWIM?

What was up with that last guy? Dave? He kind of freaked me out a little bit.

I think they sent him just to make Simon go: :scared: :crazy2:  :faint:

I think it will work---but the joke's on them as Simon will have words in Hollywood I am sure.

Did you notice that "tan girl" had two segments and wore different shirts? She was one of the performers who butchered Lady Marmalade. :confused3 I know it was her because of that "tan" and the pink cellphone hanging from her jeans.

Debloco, what a cutie and what a talent!! I wish him luck!!

I'm wondering if it was a callback for entertainments sake. I.e. not really a second chance, but come on and do this for us. Chicago was 2 days--so possible.

that kid was not a singer at all! After her comment I thought, ohh, this kid is going to be good....and oh lordy...it was terrible!

The music teacher even said he was going places (per the kid/mom). I'm wondering if the teacher should have been a tad more specific.

That girl with the hair, tan and makeup...OMG! My girls couldn't believe that was her mother! They were both a wee bit overdone.

She looked like a real-life BRATZ doll....
