American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

You mean scooter girl? At least she could sing.

I think David is going to be this season's John Stevens.

ah yes! It was a scooter. I didn't think she was that great really. I felt that it was mostly a gimmick at the time putting her through. Funny how Paula commented on one of them being the next William Hung though.

As for the bratz doll holding her ear. I don't remember how she was doing it, but I know my brother in law puts his finger over his ear when his monitors aren't working, so that he can hear himself. Otherwise, who knows why she was doing it. She was truly scary looking though. I kept hoping they would show the "proof is in the paper" girl sing. I really hope the other snide girl doesn't make it after the way she was acting.

That tan girl was weird! I don't understand the last jumpy guy either. Why on earth? I thought the last set of twins were great.

my DOGS actually picked their heads up, tilted them to the sides looking at the television and cringed!
:rotfl2:

This is the funniest thing I've read all day!

Come to think of it, though, my Nikki disappeared shortly after the show started. She was way at the other end of the house. I guess some of the "singers" hurt her ears!

Oh what a show!

I liked the first set of twins -they were really good as well as the I liked the heavy set woman. The one who Simon had to say something snotty about her weight at after she left the room)

The Brat doll girl was just scary! I loved the deputy - I about died laughing with him. I wonder if he lost a bet or something - otherwise why on earth would you do that? haha
The last jumpy guy was funny - must just be all entertainment factor for letting him through! Crazy!

I am ready to watch tonight! :)

Last night was hilarious. That Ukrainian girl - holy cow. I thought she was going to start stripping while she was singing that! The only thing that was missing was the pole! :rotfl2:

My husband said the exact same thing last night. We were rolling when she was singing, too.

RE: Ukraine Girl

Although she was not good - at all.

I felt *bad* for her. I dont think she got they were making fun of her, at all - for awhile! She thought she was headed for lights, camera, ACTION in the big city! I just felt super bad for her.... :sad1:

As one who also knows how auditions go...yes, they can be tough. While I tend to agree with feralpeg, I also think that most of these kids know exactly what they are getting into. Could Simon be a bit more sensitive? Sure, but that's not going to make good t.v. and that's the bottom line. Even on the 6th grade level, I see a ton of girls who really think they are the next Britney...only thing is that they can't carry a tune in a bushel basket. There are some girls that my dd used to hang out with that got incredibly distressed when they didn't make it into a community theater production. Their parents were just as bad....the comments I heard were incredible. It's no wonder these kids think they are terrific...they have parents who are either tone deaf or in denial!!!

Now....my eldest dd (29 and too old to audition much to her distress!!!) told me there is a guy from the Boston auditions that I should look for..no name, but he is wearing a Mickey Mouse belly shirt I guess. She said he's more funny than good though. And there are the two other guys someone else mentioned....Larry and Nick I think. So...here's hoping some of our Boston people make it on through.

Loved David...incredible voice. I think my 12 y/o dd is in love!!! And the second set of twins...OMG...I could have just melted. Can't wait for tonight. Wonder how the judges will behave (or not, most likely!!!)

Subscribing.
Here I go getting sucked into another television show thread...I love it.

I am a little weirded-out over the last guy, but looking forward to seeing his "group" when they do gorup auditions in Hollywood. He sort of acted like an animal. Wonder if they'll show him communicating with the animals. To each his own.

I too like all of the above mentioned favs from Chicago.

.

i dont know - it bugged me that *he* got through. He was obviously:

1) Unstable
2) A psychopath
3) On Drugs
or 4) Didnt take his necessary prescribed drugs.

Is that safe? What if he goes Banana's in Hollywood?? I dont know... totally bugged me. That was a spot for a potential "American Idol" who COULD sing.

You know what else cracked me up? When that woman said she cries every time she hears her grandson (?) sing. He was so awful I almost cried too. :rotfl2:

All of the above.

I didn't mind the antics, but I did mind that he couldn't sing! The girl who was saying how she was a better singer than the one who got through was a much better than he was! Heck, the grandson who makes his mother cry when he sings was almost better--at least as good!

As i am relatively new to The Dis, this is my first "season" where I have contact with the US! We don't get the re-run until the following Friday!! and we unfortunately (and frustratingly cant vote). Last season it was ssooo diffucult to stay off the FOX website on a wednesday morning!! especially towards the end!!!

I didnt find out until last Friday if we are getting it this year!!!

Thought I was going to have to pack up, come over and move in with Mickey ::MickeyMo !!!!!

SO I'll have to try so hard not to go on to the thread for a sneak peak!!!

Tonight is also season 2 premier of desperate housewives!!!

Does anyone else have a hard time watching these first adition episodes? I find myself shuddering through them, pushing mute, and looking away. Last night I caught myself yelling "Stop The INSANITY!"

They have no set number that goes to Hollywood. I used to think so--then one city last year they only took a handful.

I don't think he took anyone's spot at all.

At least starting with last season--when they get to Hollywood, there are multiple rounds--then they cut it down some more. The only sure # is the on-air semi-finals with the groups of whatever #.

And as far as his stability--they do have security...though not sleeping in the room with them. :scared:

You know what I didn't get what when they told the 2 sisters that they needed to work on their vocals and actually hesitated before they accepted them.. you know the ones that ran through the cornfield maze? I thought they were both Fabulous! Sometimes you just have to go.. Hmmmmmm???

OOooohhh.. Gotta run... 4 minutes to showtime! :)

That 16 year old - Lisa Tucker -WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! What an amazing voice! If she does exactly what they tell her to do each week and shows versatility in her songs - she could go ALL THE WAY!

I really don't see that guy making it to the group auditions. I think he will be cut on the first day.

Yes, she was awesome, and I listened to her without seeing her! I was shocked to find a girl so young but so good!

The homeless girl was excellent, too. So good to hear good voices tonight.
