American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

tonight has to be better than last nights.
boy, did it stink.............

one of the many stupid parts last night was the bit of showing a singer and then the penalty of their crime..........
ie: sentenced to 100 hours community service / sentenced to 6 months in jail for blah blah blah

that section got old rather quickly

Ha ha, I thought it was funny. I usually hate those little time-wasters, but the Passing a Counterfeit C-note and Hummicide really made me laugh. Of course, I was tired.

Next week is Hollywood, correct? What happened to Foxboro, MA????? I know they held auditions there last August. :confused3 Maybe they didn't get any "hopefuls" from MA?

I believe next Tues. SHOULD be those auditions. And then we'll get Hollywood episodes on Wed. and the next Tuesday. The Wednesday after that (2 weeks from today) will either be the final Hollywood episode, or will be an episode like last year where the top how ever many were brought back. In that epiosde, one by one each hopeful rode an elevator up to an empty room containing only the judges and an empty chair where they find out their fate, whether they made the top 24 or not. 3 weeks from now we should be in the first week of semi-finals (I think)

i missed the first 10 minutes or so, i guess i missed the gondola guy (i never realize that it's 8pm already!!). the only person i felt was interesting tonight was the last guy with greying hair. overall, pretty unimpressive

While it was rather corny, it was the highlight of last night, not saying too much is it? Tonight has got to be better. I still can't believe only 11 people got through! I did like that little belly dancer though.

Well the only ones worth mentioning for me were the 18 yo belly dancer (she looked about 12!)

The guy with the gray hair. I really liked his voice!!

And the girl who sang Red Neck Woman. That was funny on many levels. :rotfl2:

I can't believe Paula said no to her! She said it's because the vocals of the song are too simple, yet she lets people who suck sing another song :confused3

I don't remember them doing that on AI. Did I miss it? I've always seen them divide the groups into rooms. They did the elevator bit on "So you think you can dance", which has the same producer.

Yes, they did do the elevator bit on AI last season too. I guess they wanted to change things up some. I actually liked the elevator bit better than dividing them all into 3 rooms.

I know! her voice was better than some of the ones she put through. I don't think it's all that simple...I can't sing it! :teeth: Of course i can't sing period.

Looks like I was right, Boston on Tues. and Hollywood starts on Wed.

woah that girl who sang with her mouth closed was freaaaaky. i felt so bad for the dancer (who did the split) and the #1 paula fan who did not get through. i know their voices were terrible, i just felt really badly for them...ah well! i did enjoy the guy who sang 'i can't make you love me.' and what was with all those students dressed up like zombies? too funny! :rotfl2: i can't wait for next week cos boston looks definitely INTERESTING!

what did ryan say, 4500 tried out in texas.........and only 12 made to hollywood?

wow

last week only 11 made it through

I'm probably the only one, but I'm so glad the auditions are almost over. The 1st year, when it was spontaneous, it was cute. Now they just seem to "staged".... An hour, or maybe two is fine, but 88 hours is just to much....

We were totally freaked out here too!

I was totally not that impressed with anyone tonight. I felt that the girl who sang with her mouth closed made it in with her looks....

the embalmer could sing and one other guy I thought.

You're not the only one, Kimberle. I am so tired of auditions and haven't been able to watch all the way through. They are dragging it out waaayyy too much, IMO. I find it too staged and too focused on the crazies. I'll be a lot more interested once they get the talent to Hollywood.

I haven't watched it yet, sounds like I'll be doing lots of fast forwarding.

I am sick of the "bad" singers. I want to see more of who we might be voting for. So far I haven't seen enough good ones to pick out who I think might be "the one"

I can't believe that so few of them are making it through. I'm tired of all of these auditions and might skip watching Boston. I'm looking forward to the actual competition!

The auditions are still amusing me quite a bit. I'm glad there is only one audition night left though. I can't wait for the Hollywood episodes.

Worst of the night:

The guy who sang Lemon Tree. I had to mute him!
The Paula Look alike

Best of the night:
The Randy look alike and he didn't get sent thru! :(
The 16 yo guy.
The Funeral Guy. He was VERY good!!

Best Simonism: I don't think I want to do this any more. :rotfl:
