American Idol Season 14 Official Thread

Nick was the best of the night. Tyanna was good, I actually liked Quintan tonight too. Clark, painful, just painful. Glad that Quassaim is gone!!

Migraine gone. Yankees won, Idol couldn't hold my attention tonight. I keep waiting for someone to break out. Okay, maybe next week.

Even though Rayvon is technically better, I find his performances soulless with a touch of arrogance whereas Qassim is all over the place vocally but his performances seem more real and are more engaging. I almost would rather have seen Qassim get the twitter save over Rayvon.
Favorites of the night were Clark, Joey, Nick, and Tyonna. I'd be happy to say goodbye to any of the other three.

I feel like this whole season is about "who is the best of the worst?"... the show either needs to end, or step up its game in terms of finding the talent. It's so clear that they are selecting people that they think can fit the various niche/genres and can be molded/marketed into the next "hit" artist, as opposed to focusing on talent... go to any club/bar in any major city and you will find people WAY more talented than these IDOL kids. At this point, I don't see ANY of the top 7 going far in terms of an actual sustainable career - I think that ship has sailed with the current format of the show.

Exactly!!! There is not one person there that is like "OMG they are awesome!" Its more like "ok they didnt suck to bad this week"

I don't post here but do read along. I totally agree though with the PP's. I was watching last night and thinking that this season needs an Adam or someone to totally stand out. It seems like Idol used to be way better, I used to actually be excited for it to come on and I cheered for someone to win. Now, I see that Idol recorded on my PVR a few days ago and I watch when I can. I won't be surprised one bit if this is the last season.

I am much more positive about this season than the previous posters. I just re listened to a few of the performances. My favorites have remained Clark, Tyanna and Quentin and last night just reinforced that. Clark has a very good voice and sings at a level above the rest of these guys. His style may not be my favorite but he is good. The itunes recording of Make it Rain is fantastic. Tyanna's song was beautiful last night. I love her sound but you can hear her taking breaths throughout her song. I know nothing about singing but I think someone could train her not to do this.

I haven't posted a lot here either, but noticed you mentioned Adam (don't you just love him??). We have said several times at my house, that Quentin is very Adamesque. He does things differently just like Adam. I would love to see him do Adam's version of "Ring of Fire".

Oh my gosh, I so agree with this!!! I had to stop watching this year. Just couldn't stand it. The judges left so much talent out there, with their choices. I feel like the last few years have been the way you have stated, filling quotas, rather than choosing by the best talent. These three judges are the most guilty of this, in my opinion. I miss Randy & Simon so much. I just come here to read this thread to see who is gone.

Billboard Hits....Top 8 Show

As a non-American, I don't get the geographic split for the mentor/mentee line. But let’s get on with the music.

  • Jax – I couldn't keep a poker face with this performance. It seemed to come from an alternate universe.
  • Nick – I looked up about halfway. Sadly, it was for the wrong reason. He was sounding shout-y and a little off key.
  • Quentin – I didn't like this at all. It was just too bland. I think I expect more of Quentin.
  • Joey – She was pretty boring tonight. I wish she had changed it up a little.
  • Clark – The best of the night so far.
  • Tyanna – I liked this performance. She's so much better when she keeps it under wraps and doesn’t try to belt the heck out of a song.
  • Rayvon – He was pretty good.
  • Qaasim – Time to go, Qaasim.

My top 2 tonight were Clark and Tyanna. I don't remember or wanna remember the rest.

Here's to next week!

Idols will do two songs this week!

However this girl will be gone for it!

Theme is American Classics

Here are some hints:

Nick: I have one set in stone that I’m going to do that I’m really excited for. It’s going to show off my vocals a lot. It’s kind of like a mid-tempo, slight ballad, but it really fires up at the end. I’m stuck between two uptempo songs.” Nick also tweeted to a fan, “hmmmm well one song is a fast song that I’m turning into a ballad. The other is a song from T.P” (Tom Petty maybe?)

Ravyon: One song is really high energy and really funky. I haven’t done anything that high energy yet. The other is really emotional, really vulnerable, really a good song to connect with people and show some creativity…I’m really hoping to draw people in.”

This competition is Clark's to lose.

Also, they DO have stylists for these people right? SO why has nobody told Joey they need to send her to a dentist for Zoom whitening like yesterday? It's honestly off-putting.
