American Idol Season 13 Official Thread

Don't confuse me, we just changed to Daylight Savings Time and I don't know if I'm coming or going...

Think how I feel.

It was bad enough being about 17 hours ahead but 5 or 6 hours behind North America for Idol. Now, I have to readjust to the extra hour as well. I'm still trying to figure out if I'm further ahead or further behind to North American timezone.

Overall I think they all did a good job last night with some obvious standouts.

My top three: Caleb, CJ and Alex

Bottom three: Jessica, Ben, and Malaya

MK: better than normal

Jena: don't really like her but she did great tonight

I'm ok with Alex, Malaya or CJ going home.

So, with the US shifting to daylight saving time, I had high hopes of gaining an hour and being closer in time to your 'live' show.

Sadly, they moved the telecast in Australia to an hour later!!!! So the time difference is still the same.

Catching up on tonight's show.....

• Sam - He's not a Fab Four; so it's a Fail from me.
• Jessica - She's neither Simon nor Garfunkel. Another Fail to connect from me. Perhaps she really should have been the Sound of Silence.
• CJ - Well, Blow me down. Didn't see that coming from him. WOW! Love. "We are so blessed."
• Dexter - Sweet Home *yawn*. He sang it well; but there was nothing new in it.
• Ben - I don't recognise him. Who is he (and who is he as an artist)? Another 'sang it well; but there was nothing new in it.' Meh.
• Majesty - She needs to wear the flower on the top of her head; rather than at the side. Frozen for Majesty means an icy death of the Flower Power. Whatever possessed her to pick this song? She's probably my favourite girl but I was so disappointed by this performance tonight.
• Caleb - If John Travolta was introducing Caleb at the Oscars, he would probably introduce him as Adele. I thought it was a rather solid performance. But I missed the rock theatrics.
• MK - Is that hair or a hat she's wearing tonight? Did they ALL get a make-over???? Loved this song and performance. I thought it had real emotion in her tone and singing. I hope this means that she's finally decided that she wants to compete on this stage.
• Alex - Is that hair or a hat he's wearing tonight??? He’s singing so much better than last week and I still like him.
• Jee-Nah - I'm in a Twilight zone. She was really good tonight.
• Malaya - Much better than last week.

Seems like some of the girls have finally shown up to play tonight. If everyone keeps it up, we might actually have an enjoyable countdown to the final show.

The worse time lapse I ever dealt with was flying to my niece's graduation in San Francisco from Georgia when I was 8 months pregnant! We were there 3 days and I NEVER caught up. Not good with time changes at all!

I know Harry is trying to build them up by saying they're the best group ever but that is such a lie. Diversity? When you have THREE country guys out of 6 and the only black guy is COUNTRY? SERIOUSLY??? When did he ever look up the word diversity?

None of them besides Caleb has any form of stage presence. It's like watching a high school talent show.

Loosen up? There were LOOSE people at the auditions and at Hollywood week.

Relate to the audience? There were relating singers at the auditions.

My question is...WHY DID THIS GROUP MAKE IT THIS FAR???

Hate to bring up the Voice again but seriously, the people who didn't get picked on that show were 100 times better than the best person on AI this year. I have no idea what their strategy is for this year but it's bombing.

Like this picture of their "new looks". I wish Sam would stop looking like he smelled something bad and CJ for once is smiling instead of grimacing.
And MK looks like a girl! I still think Malaya and Majesty are interchangeable but that's just me....

As far as the group getting this far, I think it's time to drastically change up the selection process. Everything about Hollywood week is designed to trip up the contestants in an effort to make eliminations easier for the judges. I think it's a backwards approach.

And maybe the audience needs to have more influence earlier.

I agree that this year is not that diverse but then last year seemed to lack diversity in the opposite direction. I think they purposely did not advance a bonafide white male contender in order to fit their agenda.

This may sound crazy but I think AI sets an agenda based on what appeared popular in the prior year. I don't think they want to repeat with a winner in the same style as the prior year (and not all WGWG have the same style) but they select a style that got a secondary lot of votes. Country was strong last year so I think that is reflected in advancing several country performers this year.

I am not saying this well but I think there may be a method to their madness.

I agree. Alex looks like he is smelling the same bad odor as Sam. It is funny that the two of them are together with almost the same strange smile.

I am encouraged that MK got rid of the backwards hat but could she not find a better fitting pair of paints? It may have been a blousy shirt but it looked like she was missing a behind in those paints.
