American Idol: Season 10 PART III

I find the judges' choices very contradictory to the advice that they give.

To Haley they tell her to sing a song that everyone is very familiar with -- other than the fact that Crystal Bowersox sang it on the finale last year, I think this song is pretty obscure to many.

Both of the other songs are quite uninspiring and sleep inducing. Not sure how Scotty is supposed to identify with that song...not really appropriate for a kid his age. And the song for Lauren is just done to death.

I totally agree. Just further supports my notion that they talk out their behinds.

I can't even imagine how Scotty could even relate to that song choice. Suitable for someone who is older and has lived a bit.

Lauren, I love the song, but she needs something a bit more attitudy. The same artist has some good songs with attitude in them

Haley, not a fan of the artist, like the song though. Hope Haley doesn't growl through it all.

Scotty got a nice surprise for two songs today at his homecoming. I'm sure it will be on the show and I'll keep an eye out for videos before I leave

I think Haley will go for the sympathy vote yet again, saying her song was different than the other 2 get, she is at a disadvantage, but those 2 basically established the type of artist they plan to be, suggesting a song choice. Haley has not done that leaving the choice wide open for the judges/show to act on. The song they chose came out on '95 and was in the top 10 of the mainstream chart, so I don't think it is a song no one has heard of or unfamiliar with at all.
I think the choice for Scotty requires more upper register than he is used to delivering, so while I find it a snooze-fest, it may actually be a bit of a challenge for him

We don't really know that. When Casey was voted off, Ryan said that the results were in random order.

With that said, James was my favorite and I'm sad to see him go. I liked most what he did on the show but if he makes an album of heavy metal, I doubt that I'll buy it. Just not my style.

I can't find the quote, but it was stated, James and Scotty, had never been bottom two or three.

Crystal actually sang Ironic, which is a much more mainstream song than this one. I think the judges are purposely sabotaging Haley with this song. I agree Damo, many viewers will not have ever heard it before, and the ones who DO know it also know the original lyrics. Chooosing an R rated song for a contestant and just rearranging some words doesn't take away from the fact that it's an R rated song. It's like telling a jury to "disregard the statement they just heard". Even though they know they're not supposed to consider it, it will always be in the back of their minds. Really inappropriate for Idol, and irresponsible of the judges, IMO.

It was actually an Ironic/You Oughtta Know duet...so the song has already been performed on the Idol stage...and just last year, for that matter. (Not saying whether it's inappropriate or not...they changed the lyrics...)

And watching the song makes me think that it isn't a great fit for Haley...

My bad, I guess my memory failed me. Maybe Haley can do something different with it, but she's still getting the short end of the stick...

As much as I love Scotty and his voice I wish he had done more modern or well known country songs while on the show. More songs like "The River" or "Gone" would have been awesome!

I don't feel that Haley is getting the short end of the stick with the songs. If she is truly a good singer and artist then she will be able to take what she is given and sing it well and turn it into something people will love. If she doesn't do that, well then she doesn't deserve to win.

Haley is the only one left with any talent. Scotty's singing is like natural sleeping pills and he looks like the Mad Magazine guy. Lauren is afraid to even try high notes.

Teeny-bopper mid-west girls with nothing better to do than text a hundred times to vote will choose the one trick pony Scotty to win. He'll release one failed album and will never be heard from again.

American Idol is officially a joke. I hope that X Factor blows it away. The Voice makes this show look like Single A baseball.

I could not have said it better myself. Taylor Hicks comes to mind when I think of Scotty. I think Idol better look at their voting method and change it. The Voice I have heard is really good. I heard Haley singing in her home town and wow she sounded bad. She should be home right now and James singing in his home town. But, yet again Idol has FAILED!

Meh, AI's trying to turn James' fans toward Lauren and Scotty ( mostly Lauren). They're really pushing, the Haley hate...pretty despicable IMO. Haley didn't make it this far on no talent. One doesn't play Montreax because they suck. Geesh, this is ridiculous.

I will say I have not liked Haley from the start. She should have left weeks ago but this is not a talent show. We can't forget that. However far they get is based soley on popularity not their singing. If that was not true Pia would still be on. I won't even bother to watch from this point. Out of the remaining three I could careless who wins.

I don't think you can say none of them have any talent, if they had no talent then they would have never been sent to Hollywood in the first place! They might not be the most talented but they do have talent.

My memory had failed me, too, as I had no recollection of her singing Ironic as you had mentioned. ;)

I agree with you, though. If she's unable to really get into the nitty-gritty dirtiness of the song (and rightly so with it being a family show), I think it puts her at a bit of a disadvantage. And, as more time goes by, I'm really thinking I'm not liking this song for her. Just because she growls doesn't mean she's an angry singer. Where's something that she can sink her jazz teeth into? Or a Joss Stone song like Randy said she is reminiscent of?

Maybe if she had chosen one like that for herself, when the judges kept steering her that way...:rolleyes1

Unfortunately the only way a show can blow away another show is to be programmed at the same time and date. Otherwise, people will still watch both.

AI has lost his edge but still has the ratings to keep it going. It is also a major promotional tool for established artists. The little talent show is the smallest part of it now but they need to realize they need more VARIETY to keep their audience coming back. One jazzy girl and two teenagers who sing country does NOT reflect the entire demographic.

And if I hear Ryan call that scrawny kid "Scotty the Body" ONE MORE TIME ... it almost sounds pedophilic
