We're going to Disney in January and DH would like to try out for the American Idol Experience.

Due to the FP+ tiering, I do not have a FP+ for TSMM. We are rope droppers, so my idea was to get in and ride it immediately. Should we head over to American Idol right after riding TSMM so DH can audition? How long do the auditions take? What else can we expect?

The audition process itself doesn't take very long, but if you make it through to performance level, your whole day could be devoted to AIE! You would be asked to return to be in one of the shows (I believe they do 3) culminating in the evening performance for finalists (around 7 I think?) at which time they select an overall winner for the day. They'll ask if you have any dinner res. so as long as you can be flexible, go for it! Break a leg!

What time do you need to be there to audition? My dd is wanting to give it a try also. :goodvibes

I would like an answer for this too. Can someone report if they've successfully ridden TSMM at RD then gone to AI, or do we just need to go to AI immediately?

My daughter did this in 2012 and plans to do it in July

We went when the park opened at 9, she went thru 2 or 3 different auditions, a period of listening to the music to sing again and then meeting with the final producer.

They tell you which show you will be on, and when to be back, there is a period of coaching and it goes on forever basically.we had to run to our 50's ressie. If you win, they do other media with you and you have to be back for the final show at night. Very little free time the whole day.

Basically almost a full day...you have to decide if it is worth it to lose that much park time.

I would think you could ride one thing, however, the number of people doing this varies from day to day.

There were probably 10 people in front of us at 9:15am, at opening Everyone that auditions does not get on, but it took us about an hour to get to the ipod listening phase. Then it was pretty quick to get to the next producer. Just depends on how long it takes you to learn their version of the song.

Thanks for the info. We've got SWW breakfast at 10:30 that day, but other than that AI is the priority. So sounds like we should head straight there so we can be out again at the Sci-Fi by 10:30. I know my DD is going to win the final show so I am committed to spending this day on her ;)

So I had read 'first come, first served' on picking song titles too so maybe another reason to go straight there.

You say they tell you which show you will be in. They don't ask the first winning contestants which show works better for them and then fill in with the rest? Do they fill in order of show? So the first 4 winners will fill the first show and the next 4 winners fill the 2nd show and so on? If this is the case, this may be a reason to hang back from auditioning too early as we'd want a later show.

Ahh, the mental dilemma situation.
