American Idol at DHS

I've seen a few posts over on the Theme Park Strategy Board.

I am going to move you over there and hopefully you will get more responses.

OhMari

I was there last week. We had a real good time. There was no crowd issue at all. They have several shows each day, then a Grand Finale at night. We saw and judged two singers. They have to try out and work hard to get there. The winner of the Grand Finale at night gets a pass to any audition(skips the long wait lines). It really was just like being at the show.

This looks like such fun! We've never been but I have a 16 year old that is itching to try out for the Real AI and is willing to subject herself to Simon and everything! Her theater director thinks she has some serious potential, I just hate the idea of her getting crushed - this will be a great forum for her to try to display her talent and get some feedback. I wonder how they go about "trying out" for the AI experience at the Studios ... anyone know?

Not really sure, but the guy just told us that they had been trying out all day. I bet it would be fun!! They had a judge that looked like Randy, and a lady that acted like paula and a mean british lady that acted like Simon. It was funny. I wanted to go again, but we never made it back.

I've also been! Guests can start signing up to audition as soon as the park opens - it's first come first serve.

If you make it through the initial audition then you'll meet with a vocal coach, cosmetology, run through the show, then you perform in front of other guests who make the final call on who makes it to the evening show.

There are a list a predetermined audition songs you're allowed to sing... I've seen the list on other threads if you want to go hunting!

Try this link. It is a Disney video on youtube that gives allot of info on the attraction.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjbuMXxEWnI

Then go here http://www.wdwnews.com/viewpressrelease.aspx?pressreleaseid=112170&siteid=1

and you will see the song list of songs you can choose to sing.

You can also pre-register to audition...my friend and I are trying out and we pre-registered. There is no cost to do so even though it asks you to 'check out'. Here is the link to pre-register http://tickets.disney.go.com/buy/Ti...ti9rPCI2T6WBjb4vVCaf994SeBg47o=&drnid=2928874

Good luck!!

Thanks for all the info. Do you know if you have to be 16 to participate, or just to win the "golden ticket"?

Berlioz - Did you go straight there when the park opened? What was the first audition like - are you singing in front of a person, or some kind of electronic recorder? Did you get a feel for how many people get put through to the second audition? It looks great!

Thank you for taking time to share those link and video. Some of my friends are going there next week and they are little bit excited. :rotfl:

Thanks for the links - my DD will be very excited. On the real Idol Simon often says that the younger contestants should choose songs which suit their age - it's interesting that most of the songs listed are pretty old! I know my DD would have preferred to sing something young and contemporary.

Also what is the time of the 'finale'? - just trying to choose which day to visit to fit in with our dinner plans. The best day for us might be the one we are having dinner in Studios - MM at 4.55pm FDP - would this time 'clash' with the finale?

7:00pm Finalist Show

Thanks for those links...just signed up for a time slot for dd's audition. You have to be at least 14, if between the ages of 14-17, a parent/guardian has to be with you during the audition process.
The site said that you go to Studio 2B, get signed in, and then you audition, acapella, in front of judges, who then give you some feedback. You may get chosen, you may not.
Dd is going to be thrilled just to get a shot at it..she's 15 1/2.

Aww My DD is 12 and would have loved to have a chance at this! Well, I hope they keep this attraction going for a couple years at least- It can be something she looks forward to... We will definitely have to stop by and watch a bit-
Does anyone know... In front of the AI area there is a huge screen outside (it looks like) saw a pic posted by a Dis'er... Is that screen showing the contestants inside singing? That would be cool too! Snapping a picture of your kid on that big screen that everyone outside can see... I was just wondering if that is what it is-

They show the finale show on the big screen, so even if it's packed inside you ca still see it from outside, grab a bite and a drink, the finale show is about 45 min long, the refular shows are about 30min.

Has anyone tried it yet? I'd love to try just for fun. I'm not the greatest of singers nor of age for the show. I do sing in my local choir as an alto.

I just found out that you have to be 14 to "audition", otherwise you can just watch the show. My kids are going to be very disappointed!

Thank You SOOOOOO Much for the Links!!! :goodvibes We are SOOOOOO Excited about it!!! My girls are ages 14 and 16 and can't wait. The 16 yo is determined to go on to the auditions when they come to NYC. They are both very involved in Musical Theater and have gone to some of the top rated schools for Performing Arts here in NYC as well as on B'way auditions, so this will be awesome!

I agree with this, the selection is not very good. Allot of very difficult songs unless you sing in just the right key>
