American Idol 24

A lot of the ones I liked from the beginning are in the top 30, so waiting to see how many of them go farther.
That last 'sing off' duo. the returning girl shot herself in the foot by singing acapella, the other one gave her best performance yet (names omittted for anyone who hasn't watched yet)

Last night's show was more of the same where virtually the only performers shown were those moving on in the competition. I used to enjoy in prior years seeing more of the competitors (both good and bad) so you could compare your impression to how the judges decided. The guy who sang the Elvis song during that sing-off was doing exactly what the judged suggested he not do during the audition round. Focus more on the song and less on the performance aspect. Playing the guitar behind his back probably didn't help him either.

Now that they are down to 30 and going to Hawaii next week, will be interesting to see if more of the competitors are shown.
Are they going specifically to Aulani again? I know I said that I wasn't going to watch yet, but I forgot about Aulani. Sometimes they show ads and stuff about WDW, so I want to watch.

Athiests, agnostics, and non-Catholics will/may be in Heaven. It's in the catechism of the Catholic Church. No one is to assume who is on Hell, that is strictly for God to decide Himself.

To answer the other question, I pray grace before every meal, sometimes for a snack, and out loud at home. At work or in public I pray in silence. I use the classic Catholic meal time prayer.
The new show on 3/9 is from Aulani.
I think it was recorded around the end of Jan beginning of Feb of this year.

Yes at the end of last night's show they specifically said Disney/Aulani and showed a few shots. The show is recorded some months in advance, but I don't know the exact dates they were there.

Thanks! I just set it up to record (actually it's 2 weeks).

Idol Aulani show was last night. They finally showed most/all of the top 30 as they performed, but some only had brief clips of their performance. I didn't follow where they chose 20 to move on but then only named 4 of 10 who were eliminated, unless I missed something. Chloe always seemed too emotional and ready to burst into tears whenever she was either on cam or performing. She was one of those eliminated.

They said they showed all 30, but I watched the entire thing and there were a few that I didn't see or hear singing. I do not like this new way of doing things. What I found strange is that you could clearly see the hotel not far in the distance, yet there wasn't anyone standing on the balconies watching or listening? If I were staying there, I would have been outside watching what was going on, lol

The 'industry' people were too loud and they kept focusing on what they were saying too much.

11 out of my top 20 picks are still in it.

I hated having the “industry experts “ have any say in who was chosen for top 20. Leave the process to the actual judges. And what happened to the other 6 that didn’t make top 20? 🤷‍♀️
Poor Chloe, she was one of my favorites and I was so excited to see she was doing an Adele song but sadly she blew her chance of going forward 😢. So glad the Australia guy didn’t make top 20. With his weird clothing gimmicks, fake crying and the fact that he has been on several other competitions I was glad to see him go. The whole show was way too rushed, so disappointing.

There are 10 that didn't make the top 20, they will all be going home.

From what I found online--
Now, with the hard decisions made, the 20 remaining contestants will head on to the next phase of the competition. While still at Hawaii’s Aulani Resort, the Top 20 will be mentored by Brad Paisley and Keke Palmer as they vie for America’s vote. Palmer will also serve as a guest judge during next week’s installment of the show.

In addition to the contestants’ performances, past Idol breakouts Iam Tongi and Thunderstorm Artis will take the stage. I happen to love both Iam and Thunderstorm, have been following their careers and can't wait to hear them again.

I agree about those so-called 'industry experts'. Those who made a name for themselves doing clever things on social media or someone from Dancing with the Stars isn't my idea of a music industry 'expert'. Maybe the person who is the editor of a music related magazine can offer a valid perspective, but most of the others just seemed to make clever remarks to increase their chance of being seen on camera.

With 30 contestants, there would clearly be enough recorded content for at least two shows and a chance to see each of them perform. The shows were likely recorded over multiple days when you take into account setting up for each contestant and moving their parents into those seats on the end of the aisle. It also seemed like they had blocked off the walkways so that the general public was discouraged from attending. In the past, they had a large area for those who wanted to watch. I agree as others have said, the whole show seemed needlessly rushed this year and probably will lose viewers. Apparently they have fewer time slots allocated for broadcasting and have to squeeze the content into the available time.

They mentioned that at the end of last night's show. If it's a 2 hr show next week, having 20 people sing along with guest performances in addition to everything else, still seems like a lot to cover in a relatively short span of time. I could do without guest performances if it allows more time for us to actually see the contestants performing along with the judge's feedback.

Wow, this thread was buried. Is anyone still watching? Went from 20 to 14 last night. Songs of Faith. A couple I liked, most of them I didn’t know. But Carrie sure was amazing with “How Great Thou Art. “. I had heard it before, and with her and Vince Gill. They were supposed to announce who was going home last night but didn’t. My favorites are Hannah and Chris. Voting is such a mess this year. For some reason they got rid of the app. I thought that was the easiest way to vote. Many who are trying to vote on Facebook aren’t doing it right so their votes aren’t counting.

I watch every week. I don't think it was fair to bring all 20 to Hollywood, and then immediately send 6 home.

They won't say who goes home until next week. I liked the app better too. I tried FB the first night and went back to texting my votes in.

There are so many good singers in the top 14, my faves are still there, so I'm happy.

Thread seems to get lost in the list since not as many are posting about it anymore. Did seem a bit odd to open the show with all 20 and then immediately send 6 of them home, but show seems to be trying different things this year. Show is only 1 night a week where in the past I seem to recall it was on 2 nights each week which could also make a difference in how much discussion it generates here.

Got the impression they either ran out of time or there was some technical issue consolidating all of the votes before the show ended. Didn't get the impression they planned that all along, but Ryan said they would announce those leaving at the start of next Monday's show. I know in a few prior years, they had difficulty managing the time during the live shows and would seem to always run out of time.

As with any of these types of shows where the viewer voting determines the results, you may/may not get the 'best' singer to move forward. The demographics of those who watch & vote as well as how popular some are with viewers tends to make a difference on who moves forward.

Was on the phone when Carrie was starting to sing. Missed the explanation of who the others were singing with her, maybe former contestants?
