Where do you buy clothes for your doll other than the official AG site? I found a few sites with a google search but I'd appreciate some suggestions as well.

Targets sells the "Our Generation" doll line. Like the AG dolls, these are 18" tall so the clothes will fit both lines.

If you are buying non-AG clothes for an AG doll, you may want to make sure the recipient will play with them. My oldest daughter won't put non-AG clothes on her dolls. She a by-the-book kid and it didn't make sense for her to mix outfits/dolls. Other kids don't care at all... just different personalities.

I got some underwear and some other cute outfits on ebay. I agree with PP about some children not using non - AG stuff. Luckily my dd is happy with any kind of clothes for her dolls.

I make most of my DD's AG clothes. She likes to match her dolls, so I make matching sets. She is reading the Samantha books, so I am making a lot of "proper" dresses like Sam would have worn. ;) Next is the Kirsten books, and pioneer clothes.

My DD has one outfit from Target, but she never plays with it since it doesn't fit very well.

If you can sew at all there are some very simple patterns to make clothes.

We have a lot of clothes from a local AG clothes maker who sells her stuff at our school's Christmas craft fair. I also check out stuff from Emily Rose a lot - they have great-looking, reasonably priced clothes, and a weekly $12.00 special outfit (email special - just sign up on the website). I haven't bought anything there, but they have good reviews.

One thing I wish I could find more of is reasonably priced matching clothes. I'm not great at sewing - the last time I made anything for my DD I realized I spent as much making an Aurora costume as I would have spent buying one from the Disney Store!:rotfl: So I would prefer to purchase some matching clothes. I can find some, but nothing that really thrills me. I wish that Build a Bear clothes fit the AGs, since my DD's into Justice clothes and they now have matching Justice outfits at BAB!

American Girl was the phase for all of my friends kids about three years ago. I did very well purchasing clothes for the dolls and sometimes matching clothes for the kids at craft shows. Once I found someone I liked, I just asked if she was going to be at other craft shows.

BTW-I hate craft shows and knick knacks, but all the female members of my family do not share my opinion. I have been dragged to so many craft shows.

If you want to go this route and don't have craft shows nearby you could try etsy.com. Someone there will probably have what you need.

Our Michaels has some doll clothes that fit American Girl dolls. If you can get one of their 40% off coupons they can be very cheap. I bought DD one of their sets last year & she loves it.

We buy on ebay, you can usually find lots with several outfits in them for between $5 and $10 an outfit. You can also get new outfits in boxes for less than catalog prices from sellers who buy at the MCM warehouse and/or outlet sales to resell.

I personally don't like the non-AG clothes from target and walmart as they don't fit right - too small & tight - plus if you can even manage to squeeze target shoes onto an AG doll, you may have to cut them off. Without shoes, the deal isn't as much of a deal to me.

As for craft shows, around here craft shows/shops sell handmade AG clothes for $12-$25. THat's okay, it takes a lot more work than it seems to make tiny clothes with details, but I can usually get an authentic outfit with shoes & access from AG on sale for that much and those carry a lifetime warranty.

IMO, it doesn't hurt to make a habit of checking the sale section on the AG site every few days just to see what might be there. In July they were running specials that changed every night at midnight - talk about making us look... :lmao:

Just a note on Target clothes- beware anything with a fitted wrist. Target's dolls have a smaller hand and they don't always fit over AG hands. As pp said, the shoes are terrible. The clothes are ok enough.

I make most of DD's clothes, but esty, craft fairs also good options.

ltd commodities has generic outfits very reasonable in the new Christmas catalog ( which you can access on line) HTH!:goodvibes
