American Girl Controversy

I just read that conservative groups are boycotting American Girl Dolls because of the company's affiliation with Girls, Inc. (formerly the Girl's Club). I'm curious where everyone stands.

I, for one, don't have a problem with this because the Girl's Club has done wonderful things. Plus, their organization doesn't center on anything sexual. I respect pro-life positions, but I don't understand why preventing girls from becoming pregnant is a bad thing for some pro-lifers.

I've already written a letter to American Girl supporting their decision. What's your opinion?

I support American dolls...It just seems like another attempt by those boycotting to get news coverage and push their views on others. I respect everyone's right to their opinion but it's a doll for god's sake and they are supporting a group who do alot for girls and their welfare.

I think, unfortunately, the people who lose in this situation will be the children of the boycotters who won't be able to grow up having fun with the dolls ( which are, IMO, the best toys on the market). I really doubt the boycott will have enough support to make a difference to the company anyhow.

I personally don't see a problem with the affiliation--but I'm pretty liberal so I might be blind as to why it's an issue.

Of course, it's everyone choice as to how they want to spend their money...

Aren't they boycotting Disney, too? They are both silly boycotts, but you can choose whether or not to join. I'm sure Am. Girl was just looking for a charity that benefits their particular customers- little girls, and the only group that would have met the Christian Conservative's standards would have been a Christian group, like Daisies.

My kids are past the age of American Girls dolls, but I would never stop purchasing them because of a group telling me how bad the company was. I have my own mind and I know how to use it.

I am sure if you went into all the corporations dark secrets, sweat shops, shareholder treatment, product testing, the way they TREAT SOME ANIMALS for food, etc, you would find you would look terrible, be naked, bored and starve to death.
