American food etc

I think 2% is what you're after. Make sure you don't get half and half, it's half milk and half cream, my dad loves it, but if you drink light milk I can't imagine you'd like it at all!

but alcholol is crazy cheap, and believe it or not their coke is better, if you get the original glass bottle, which is usually still only a dollar or two, not 4 or 5 like here.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more! :rotfl: As a huge coke fan, there is nothing worse then US coke. :crazy2: Next trip I'm going to buy either some Mexican coke, or sugary coke, so I can still drink it and avoid HFCS.

it's in the coke and if you taste mexico's coke you'll see the difference. mexico uses the same stuff as we do.

there are some pics on my blog if i remember showing walmart prices on some alcohol. really cheap compared to here.

another hands up for the bread being sweet. i couldn't stomach it. i've been told that sourdough is nowhere near as sweet so we'll be looking for that next time. btw - i can taste a difference between aus vegemite and nz vegemite :)

Yeah we eat sour dough while we're over there. However we don't really eat sandwiches while there.

I'm a coke-a-holic and I bought a 12 can pack for the fridge at our vacation rental. I tried one can and couldn't drink it. It was awful. Most of the plastic bottle coke I had was fine though.

I drink coke zero, do you know if that is different in the USA than Australia/NZ?

Another Coke-a-Holic here! I thought the canned coke over there tasted like cinnamon when I had it. It was awful! I assume they have different recipes for different countries?? Or maybe the difference in the quality/origin of ingredients affects the taste? Either way I can't go a month without my daily coke so bottles will have to be the go!

It is different but I didn't have issues drinking it from the can, bottle or post mix. If you're the type of person who doesn't drink diet coke because of the difference in taste you might notice it more.

I'm pretty sure the only difference is that they use HFCS, and we use sugar. What do we use in coke zero?

Sorry if this has been asked or I am asking the question in the wrong place but we are pretty hooked on ice coffee, we don't have normal coffee but can go through ice break or breaka pretty quick. Do they have something similar over there?

I'm not sure, but do be careful when you order iced coffee at a cafe or bar. DH ordered an iced coffee on the cruise one night and was expecting a milky frappe like drink (as that's what an iced coffee is here in NZ). What he got was got a black coffee with ice floating in it (just like ice tea). He said it was revolting, :rotfl:

You want to ask for a frappucino, it's like a blended ice coffee milkshake type drink. I think that is what you are looking for right? If you ask for something like a frappucino , Americans will know what you want. There are also sweetened coffee drinks in the juice/milk section that come in boxes like milk does. International Delight is the brand. It tastes like cold sweet coffee and you can pour it over ice, or drink it straight.

We are HFCS free and it's in everything. Ketchup and soda and breads especially. We have mini wheats that are a little like weetabix ( I used to live in QLD). They come frosted with sugar or plain. Honey bunches of oats is not super sweet and is like a cross between cornflakes and muesli.

Pepsi throwback or Mexican coke for namebrand no HFCS. You can buy "Cola" at Whole Foods made with cane sugar as well.

Order an "Ice Blended" to get what you are describing, not Frapaccino or Ice coffee. I've made both mistakes and I'm originally from there. :)

Sourdough bread is a must try in CA.

Have fun! Sorry to crash your thread.
